Does a walk count as a RBI?

A walk-off RBI is when a batter in the bottom half of the last inning of the game (either the ninth or in extra innings) drives in a runner that gives his team the lead. Since the opposing team does not get to bat again (having batted in the top half of the inning) the player's team "walks off" without having made three outs. Further play is no longer necessary.

What does the bottom of an inning mean?

Major League Baseball consists of 9 innings, with each team alternating their at-bat. The Visiting team bats first, which is the top of the inning, and continues batting until 3 Outs have been recorded. The Home team then bats, which is the bottom of the inning, and continues until 3 Outs have been recorded. Then the Visiting team would bat again in the top of the second inning, and the game would continue that way until 9 innings have been played, or 8-1/2 innings if the Home team is ahead after the Visiting team has completed their at-bat in the top of the 8th inning.

-Center fielder (Plays in the outfield behind 2nd base)

If catcher drops the ball can the batter run to first?

All that the rules say is the base must be unoccupied for the runner to advance with a dropped third strike. Now, in your situation there are two outs which changes things a little. It allows the runner on first to vacate the base by attempting to advance to second. If there is a runner on first with less than two outs the batter cannot attempt to take first on a dropped third strike no matter what the runner on first does. In your scenario as well, the bases are loaded so all runners must leave their base in order for the batter to advance to first making it a force play at home plate.

All that the defense needs to do is step on home plate with the ball before the runner from third can successfully cross home plate in order to record the strike out.

How many chances does the batter have to hit the ball before running to first base?

You can reach base without a hit via the following: 1. Walk (aka Base on Balls) 2. Hit by Pitch 3. Fielding or Throwing Error 4. Passed Ball on Strike Three (The pitch gets away from the catcher after a swing and miss strike 3 and the batter can reach 1st base before the catcher throws to the 1st baseman) 5. Reach on Fielder's Choice (another baserunner is thrown out) That's all I can think of.

A tied ball game goes into innings?

If a game is tied at the end of regulation innings (9 innings in the MLB), the game will continue for as many innings as necessary until there is a winner. However, local leagues may set maximum innings or time limits.

Is a pitched ball that hits the ground before reaching the batter considered to be a dropped third strike?

It has to be caught it-the-air first. "Dropped Third Strike" is a misleading term. It should be called the "Uncaught Third Strike". So, if the ball touches the dirt before reaching the catcher, it is indeed a dropped third strike.

What does it mean when a batter is Struck out looking?

In baseball which includes Major League Baseball, striking out looking means the batter has two strikes on his as the counter and he takes a third strike without swiging the bat therefore he struck out looking because he struck out while looking at the pitched ball.

Does a sac fly count as a at bat?

No, a sacrifice fly does not count as an official at-bat, in order to have an at-bat scored as a sac fly though a runner must advance home safely on your fly ball

How many balls does an umpire rub and where does the mud come from?

The mud originates from a secret location on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River. Only the company's current owner, Jim Blintiff (a descendant of Blackburne), is privy to the information. The mud is cleaned and screened, and a secret ingredient is added to it before sale. Each year, Blintiff visits the mud's secret location, and returns with 1,000 pounds of it to store over the winter, until he sells it the following baseball season. Before all major and minor league games, an umpire rubs six or more dozen balls with the Baseball Rubbing Mud to give them a rougher surface, making them easier for pitchers to grip. The rubbing mud's unique feature is that it is "very fine, like thick chocolate pudding", and it has been considered the "perfect baseball-rubbing mud"

Is an RBI count as a hit?

Yes. A home run is a base hit just like a single or double or triple is.

Is the distance in fastpitch softball measured from the pitching rubber to the front of home plate or the back of home plate?

According to the official rule book, the bases are located inside the diamond.

If you were standing on the pitcher's mound, then no matter which base you look at, the measurements would be behindthe bases, because the back corners of each base is what touches the measured diamond.

Home plate is measured from the point (the part that points to the catcher) to the far right corner of first base (which touches the foul line). First base to second base is measured from the foul line to the center field corner of second base, etc.

How far is the pitchers mound to home plate in Little League baseball?

Which pitcher holds the record for most pitches in a single baseball game?

"In 1974, according to beat writers in attendance, Ryan threw 259 pitches in a 12-inning win over Kansas City."

"On May 1, 1920, Brooklyn and Boston played a 1-1 tie that lasted 26 innings. Incredibly, pitchers Leon Cadore and Joe Oeschger each went the distance. Historians estimate that Cadore threw 345 pitches, Oeschger 319."

"...1963 matchup between the Giants' Juan Marichal and the Braves' Warren Spahn, each going the distance in a 16-inning game that ended on Willie Mays' homer. Marichal threw 227 pitches that night, and there was a point when his catcher, Ed Bailey, told him, "Don't let them take you out. Win or lose, this is great.""

April 27, 1993: Pirates knuckler Tim Wakefield tossed 172 pitches over 10+ innings in a 6-2 victory against the Atlanta Braves at Atlanta-Fulton County stadium. (Wakefield scored one of four Pirate runs in the 11th inning but was lifted after walking the first two batters in the bottom of the 11th.).

In the playoffs, the record is held by Luis Tiant, who threw 163 pitches in Game 4 of the 1975 World Series, a complete-game win for the Red Sox.

Tom Cheney of the Washington Senators threw 228 pitches in a 16 inning complete game victory over the Baltimore Orioles in 1962. In this game Cheney struckout 21 batters which, as of 2010, is the MLB record for most batters struckout by a pitcher in a game.

What is number of baseballs used in a 9 inning game?

Nine innings- for that mater nine players MAY reflect the nine-month growing season- if you accept the idea that baseball evolved out of some form of ( like Harvest festivals) agrarian Sun-worship among American Indians. this theory was espoused by Ripley- and also accounts for the four bases being symbolic of the Four Seasons- the aversion to Night Baseball ( for decades) and the fact it is not played in inclement weather- Here Comes the Sun- indeed!
