Where can you find a Biography of Mickey Mantle?

Mickey Charles Mantle, born October 20, 1931, in Spavinaw, Oklahoma. Named by his Father "Mutt" Mantle after Hall of Fame catcher Mickey Cochrane. When Mickey was four years old, his family moved to the nearby town of Commerce, Oklahoma.

Mickey Mantle was an all-around athlete at Commerce High School, playing basketball, football, and baseball. It was football playing that nearly ended his athletic career, and his life. Kicked in the shin during a game, Mantle's leg soon became infected with osteomyelitis, a crippling disease that would have been incurable just a few years earlier. A midnight ride to Tulsa enabled Mantle to be treated with newly available penicillin, saving his leg from amputation. He would suffer from the effects of the disease for the rest of his life, and it would lead to many other injuries that hampered his accomplishments. How do you break in a pro preferred catcher's mitt?

Rub glove oil over the entire glove, paying special attention to the inside, palm, and pocket. Find a spot where the ball feels most comfortable to your hand inside the pocket and put a ball there (Some people heat it up in the oven at 350 for 5-8 minutes) wrap shoelaces around the glove so that it holds the ball tightly and let it sit for about 24 hours. Next, open it up and work the glove in an open and close motion over and over, and take it out and play catch with it a lot before your first game. Keep the whole glove oiled, especially the inside and laces ( they dry out and break ) and always store it with a ball inside so it remembers that shape. Never lay your glove down flat, open the pocket and put it on the ground when taking hitting practice, a flat glove is next to useless. A lot of professional major league ballplayers use Lanolin instead of glove oil to work their gloves in. Lanolin will keep the glove supple, and its waterproofing properties will keep the glove from drying out. Lanolin (Hydrous) is an ointment that is sold to treat dry skin, and can be purchased by the pound at your local pharmacy, Walgreens, Rite-aid etc.

Explain why a baseball player follows through with his or her swing?

The golf swing is a series of interconnected body and muscle motions. Most people do not realize that the "OBJECT" of playing golf IS NOT, I repeat IS NOT, to hit the golf ball. The object is to make a golf swing....a golf swing that repeats. Then, it is the golfer's task to make those minor adjustments to that the golf ball lies on the exact path that the golfer is swinging on.

This is why MOST golfers play poorly and fail to improve. They try to hit the ball.

The backswing creates a position. The golfer coils up into a powerful position HOWEVER, the golfer should remain as releaxed as possible. This allows the hands to swing the grip, or the "handle" of the club, the fastest through to swing completion.

The backswing creates energy. The downswing unleashes it. Maximum clubhead speed should be achieved at impact when the ball is struck.

Since the golfer is making a GOLF SWING, it is essential that he or she have a follow through to finish. Otherwise, the golf club would be slowing down at impact; distance would be lost, and the golfer would be far too inconsistent.

The golf swing is merely a series of levers made up by the shoulders, hands, and the golf club that achieve maximum speed through centrifugal force.

Think of the golf swing as a bungee cord. When someone jumps on a bungee, they hit bottom and then come flying back up because of MOMENTUM. They don't just fall to the bottom and stop.

Golfers have a follow through because of momentum of the golf club literally swinging them if they are doing it correctly.

What are the defense positions in baseball?

When batting you need to have the batting stance. Elbows out, not to your side, non-dominant arm's elbow pointed at the pitcher. You should also be leaning backward on your dominant foot. You should also be horizontal to the pitcher. Afterthat, when the ball is in your sight and is out of the pitcher's hand, slide your dominant foot towards the pitcher, swing the bat and follow through. In offensive positions you usually have one foot on the base and one stepping off. You should be looking at the pitcher or batter and most of the time the catcher. Also, knees bent and hands on your knees can be very affective to get you ready to run.
