Most strike outs by a pitcher in a game?

The record for strikeouts in a Major League game is 21, set by Tom Cheney on September 12, 1962. Cheney pitched 16 innings and broke the previous record of 18, set by Bob Feller.

The record for a nine-inning game is 20, first accomplished by Roger Clemens on April 29, 1986; Clemens has since had another 20-strikeout game, and Kerry Wood has also had one. Randy Johnson also struck out 20 batters within the first nine innings of a game, but isn't credited by MLB with being tied for the record because the game went to extra innings after Johnson left.

What is the least number of pitches by a single pitcher in a complete game?

In 1944, Charley "Red" Barrett of the Boston Braves threw only FIFTY-EIGHT pitches during a nine inning complete game. Barrett's Braves shutout the Reds 2 - 0 and the game set major league records for least number of pitches known to have been thrown by a single pitcher in a complete game and shortest game played at night.

How many people like baseball?

A poll in late 2012 found that 53% of adult Americans identify themselves as fans of baseball. In 2013 the number of US adults was about 242 million. This would mean about 128 million adults are fans of baseball.

If youth are fans of baseball in the same percentages as adults, that would mean 167 million Americans who like baseball.

The sport is also very popular in many countries in Latin America, but even estimates of the percentages of that population who are fans of the sport are not available.

Who was the first Major League Baseball player to get into the Hall of Fame?

The first MLB was in 1871 and called the National Association. There were nine teams in the League representing the cities of Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, Washington, New York, Troy, Ft. Wayne, Cleveland, and Rockford. Each team had 12 or 13 players, two or three being pitchers. So there really wasn't a 'first' player in the MLB, it was more like the 'first' teams in the MLB. If you click on the 'First MLB Game' link on this page, you can read about the first MLB game ever played. The date was May 4, 1871.

Since 1900:

He was 17 years, 17 days old, when started the second game of a doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field and pitched a complete game, winning 11-3. What team has won the most baseball pennants?

That would be the New York Yankees with 5 straight between 1949-1953 and 1960-1964. The Yankees have also won four straight pennants 3 times (1936-1939, 1955-1958, 1998-2001). The only other MLB team to have won four consecutive pennants is the New York Giants (1921-1924).

How many times have the Cincinnati Reds won the World Series?

5..... 1919,1940,1975,1976,1990

The last time was in 1990 with the likes of Barry Larkin, Hal Morris, Joe Oliver, Eric Davis, Paul o'neil, Billy hatcher, Chris Sabo, Jose Rio, Tom browning, and the nasty boys, rob dibble Ext......

In 1990 the reds went wire to wire they stayed in first place all year long from game 1. One other note. Reds center feilder Eric Davis dove for a ball and ruptured his kidney and did not see anymore action. However he set the pace fore the reds to win it all with his home run.

The 1975, 1976 reds were known as the greatest baseball team of all time. They were called the big red machine with an all star team of bench, rose, ext.

The reds would have won another world series in 1995 but they were eliminated in the national league championship by the atlanta braves. The reds were quick on the bases and deion sanders was the guy making it all happen then they traded him toward the end of the season screwin up the team chemistry and after the trade they went into a funk they they could not get out of and reggies sanders could not hit a tree with a semi-truck he became mr. strike out king.

Everybody in Cincinnati can thank former reds gm Jim bowden for making what might be the most idiotic trade ever by trading prime time deion sanders right at the end of the season when it was deion who was making it all happen. Thanks for costing Cincinnati another world series title Jim. (Dork)

Just as a side note....The Reds also had the distinction of having the best record in baseball in 1981...but did not see a second of postseason action. It was the first baseball strike and 54 games were lost; although the season resumed, MLB in its infinite wisdom, decreed that it would be a "split season"; the teams leading at the time of the strike were declared "first half champs"; and the season started all over again. The Reds were a half-game behind LA when the season was suspended; they finished a game and a half behind Houston in the second half.

The Reds were 66-42 on the year, and had the season simply continued, would have been three ahead of LA at season's end. No team in baseball had a better record, but because of the "spilt season" fiasco, no postseason for Cincinnati. (I was at Opening day in 1982, when the Reds unveiled a banner which read "Best Record in Baseball ~ 1981"; it was flown right next to the division, NL, and WS pennants flown over Riverfront Stadium.

The Dodgers knocked off Houston, then Montreal in the playoffs...and came back from an 0-2 start to defeat a badly overmatched Yankee squad to win the World Series.

How many baseball games are there in a regular season?

I don't believe the given answer to be correct. 162 or 163

According to the article linked below, there are only ~162 games per year. This means that the MAX # of games that any team could play is 81 (162/2).

http://www.answers.com/topic/major-league-baseball-1

So the Question remains unanswered: How many games does each Major League Baseball team play during the regular season??? 559Josh

The question was "many games does EACH MLB team play in the regular season", not "how many total MLB games are there in a regular season".

Therefore, the original answer WAS correct: 162. It's easy to verify: go to Wikipedia and search for "2009 major league baseball season". In the tables that list each team's season record, add up the "games won" and "games lost" columns. Obviously, for any given team, the sum of these columns must be the total games played by that team (given that MLB has no drawn matches). You will see that for each team, the total is either 162 or 163. (Officially, each team is scheduled for 162 regular season games. However, if two teams finish the season tied for leadership of their division, then they must play-off to determine a winner. Those games are counted as regular season games, so each of those two teams would play 163 games for the year).

The objection that you stated would only be true if the total of ALL major league baseball games played in the season was 162. But then, the divisor would not be 2 (because there are more than two teams). If the total of all games was 162, but there were only two teams, that would still be 162 games each. Just because each game is played by two teams, that doesn't mean the answer should be divided by two. Think of it this way: imagine there are only two teams, A and B, and they play only one game. Now, the total number of games played is only 1. Yet the total games played by each team is still 1. It is not a half.

How many teams in Major League Baseball and what are they?

Additional sThe Braves were in Milwaukee at one time.

Not counting the oldest incarnations (such as the Tribe used to be the Cleveland Spiders long LONG ago):

There's 30 teams now.

Add in the following: The Brooklyn Dodgers The Boston Braves The Washington Senators The NY Giants, I think. The Philly Athletics.

Those are all the ones I can think of. That's 35 so far.

I can't say exactly how many teams there have been in MLB history, but the number would be considerably more than 35.Teams have come and gone that played in the same city but have been completely different franchises. For example, the Cleveland Spiders and the Cleveland Indians. The Spiders played in the National League in the 1890's and were dropped by the league before the 1898 season. The Indians were formed in the American League in 1901.Same city, different teams. Only taking in to account professional baseball from 1871 and the formation of the National Association, other Major Leagues such as the American Association of the 1880's and 90's,the Federal League of 1914-15 and the current National League (1876) and American League (1901), dozens of teams perhaps numbering a hundred or more have come and gone from the major leagues.
