There was 3 key results due to the Battle of Berlin. They were that it was a soviet victory, Hitler (Along with his lover and other high ranked Nazis) committed suicide and Germany signed a unconditional surrender on May 2nd. This surrender didn't come into effect fully until May 9th, where fights around and outside of Berlin ended.
About 300.000 russian Soldiers were killed on the Berliner territory. The defending of the whole campaign costed the red army about 1.000.000 lives.
My History Teacher told me that.
The long-term effect of Battle of Berlin was the division of this town. West Berlin was defined by the
quadripartite agreement on West Berlin and the East Berlin was the capital of German Democratic Republic.
Unlike for most of WW2 in Europe,neither Hitler or Stalin leaded this one. Instead 4 Soviet Marshalls and 5 German German Generals commanded and led the Battle.
The 5 German Generals were;
The 4 Soviet Marshalls were;
In total,there was 1.155 Million Casulties. The allies recieved only 360,000 whilst the Nazis suffered 795,000 Casualties.
Depending on the source the numbers can be drastically different. So, in my opinion there is no real accurate number to hang your hat on. First, the Soviets were notorious for supplying misleading figures to the public. Secondly, many figures differ because some omit or estimate the number of suicides, deaths attributed to air raids, the actual number of the home guard defending Berlin. It is safe to assume that the Battle of Berlin was one of the most fiercely contested and often fought to the death because many Germans knew their fate at the hands of the Russians. It ranks as one of the deadliest of the war.
The Battle of Berlin took place from April 16 to May 2, 1945, as the Soviet and Polish forces fought door-to-door to take the German capital. On April 30, the bunker of the Fuhrer, Adolf Hitler, came under attack and he committed suicide.
*The term "Battle of Berlin" is also applied to the British bombing campaign of November 1943 to May 1944. While rendering millions of Berliners homeless, it did not result in the immediate stoppage of the German war effort.
Battle of Berlin was important in WW2 for two reasons. The first one was that it was the final battle of WW2 and secondly, it was battle for the German capital and the allies knew that the could end the Holocaust and WW2 in Europe if they win the battle of Berlin, and force the Germans involved into surrender.
it's estimated that about 3.25 Million people fought in the Battle of Berlin. 2.5 Million were allied (2.3 Million Soviet and 200,000 Polish) soldiers, whiles 766,750 Germans fought to defend Berlin during World War 2.
There were 3 countries which were involved with the Battle of Berlin, 2 were allied countries and 1 were axis. For the allies it was mostly Soviets but Poland did help with adding 200,000 soldiers. For the Axis, it was obviously Nazi Germany.
The Battle of Berlin DID NOT START WORLD WAR 2. The Nazi German attack on Poland in September of 1939 started WW2. The BATTLE of BRITAIN came after the Battle of France and the Polish invasion.
However, Britain began seeking out allies to help them, especially the United States. Winston Churchill, King George and the Parliamentary knew the UK could not survive any attempt to defeat the Nazis. That is when the war began to build up allies against the axis forces.
The Russians treated the Allies differently because the Allies were on their side. Both the Allies and the Russians were trying to defeat Germany. In addition, Russia had a score to settle with Germany because of Germany's invasion of Russia.
5000 Germans and 200 britons
The Red Army was infamous for raping German civilians .
Germans lost around 95,000 people, Which included 22,000 civilians. Whilst the Allies (mainly Soviets) lost about 75,000 people. That's a total of about 170,000 dead in the Battle of Berlin.
Tha battle of Berlin took place simply because it was the Russians final blow to the German Reich so that they could end the war once and for all.
The Germans themselves were the only ones to be found on the side of the Axis (Nazi Germany-Italy-Japan) during the battle for Berlin . The SS Charlemagne division had many French soldiers making up the division and they fought during the battle .
For the Battle of Berlin, the Germans only had 811,500 Soldiers. This included a addition of 45,000 Soldiers which were either, Police,Volkssturm or part of the Hitler Youth. During the battle, about 73,000 Soldiers were KIA, 480,000 Captured as POW and 220,000 WIA.
In total, the Soviets had 2.5 million men. Out of the 2.5 Million Soldiers on the allied side, 2.3 Million were Soviet Soldiers and 2000,000 were Polish soldiers from the Polish Army.
