What is a dogs IQ?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The average dog IQ is like that of a three-year-old human. The more work you put into your dog the smarter he/she seems. There are dogs that are more inclined to please you, like the border collie or golden retriever that do better in obedience classes and seem very smart.

A beagle is one of the best known dogs for families. These dogs are hounds and are sometimes used for hunting because of their fast speed. They are an English dog breed. They have short hair and are a typically medium sized dog, not too big, not too small, (when full grown.) When they are puppies they are typically small. These dogs can be a different combination of colors usually shades of brown, black, and white.

What are the survival traits for a beagle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Beagles are man made. they are created so man can used them to hunt. Dogs are usually dependent on humans so most will not live with out humans. With that said, Beagles were breed to have highly developed nose. Their legs are short so they can be closer to the ground and thus closer to the scent. Their long ears are there to sweep up the ground so it can sweep up scents. Finally they have a very developed scent system.

What is the best way to take care of a beagle emotionally?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Phsyically a young beagle needs lots of exercise, lots of water and his food needs to be monitored and rationed so he doesnt become overweight. ice cubes, carrots and other natural foods are good treats in place of store bought dog treats with lots of extra calories and unneccessary carbs. emotionally, beagles love positive reinforcement, and love to be treated like a member of the family. they dont like to be scolded which is why its best to use the positive reinforcement approach- their feelings get hurt easily.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Mine are, we have a male (Tobey 1yr) and a female (Tally 6mo). They love to sit on our laps. At night Tally sleeps on a pillow above my head while Tobey sleeps right up next to me, sometimes under the covers. Beagles are a very affectionate breed (at least mine are).

What is the lifespan on beagles?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Beagles tend to live until they are 12-15 years old if they are kept healthy and loved. You should feed them dog food, but if you can't, then give them hamburger & rice.

I have a beagle that is 15, his heart is strong, he has cushings disease (for about 2 years now, untreated), and he has mild chronic bronchitis (treated), and just recently was given a barium x-ray due to blood in his diahreea and lethargy. I think he ate something from the garbage that made him sick, but thank goodness did not cause a blockage. I love him so much, I know he is feeling pain right now due to his tummy, but I'm hoping he will get better here over the next couple days, if not, he will be 15 years exactly this October. If I can get him to last another 2-3 years, I'll be so happy. He loves to lie down wherever I am. He's blind, and def, but can smell and still wags his tail when I get home. :)
