How do you swerve a blliards ball?
Theoretically if you strike the cue ball dead centre it will go in a straight line. If you apply side, that is striking off centre it will affect the direction of the rebound off a cushion. If you apply side & stun, striking below centre, then the cue ball can be made to swerve. An extreme version of this is the Masse shot, striking down, almost vertically onto the side of a cue ball. It is better when trying to swerve the cueball to raise the butt slightly & strike smoothly through the shot. It does however take practice to get it right and most shots should be played plain ball until you really know what you are capable of, it's no use being able to play a swerve if you cannot play a simple pot !
What is the best pool cue for beginners?
The answer is subjective as there are many good starter cues. Some of the best brands for entry level pool cues are Action, Players and Scorpion. All have cues for under $100. A good starter cue is a 14 mm medium tip.
Why is it when you have just the 8 ball left and the other player has 4 or 5 balls left you lose?
we ll be having only 7 balls... n the 8th ball that is black is common for both... if we pot the black ball by mistake the opponent wins...

Why does the cue ball return on a pay table?
It doesn't, you can control how the cue ball rolls by using English or hitting the cue ball off center and making it spin. by hitting it lower then center you make it spin backwards once the spin catches, generally after contact with a ball or rail it will want to stop or roll back if hit low enough. same principal is true for all other directions, extra roll forward if hit high, and to the left and right. this is a tough skill to master but is key to being an excellent player

As soon as you hit your opponents ball it is a foul. Under most rules, this results in ball in hand. However, under other rules, knocking the 8 ball in when it is not the object ball is loss of game.

Is it illegal to hit the 8 ball in if you hit another ball in first?
Yes, if you hit the cue ball into the target ball and the target ball knocks the 8 ball into a pocket you lose.
If the ball went in the pocket during the second shot, then it was sunk on that shot just as if it had been hit down by another ball.

Does a player have to nominate a color after potting a red?
Once you have potted the red you have to choose the colour you shall attempt to pot. You do not have to say which one you are trying to pot however where it is not apparent you may be asked by the referee or your playing partner to state, this may be because there are two balls close together etc.
Can you hit backwards on 8 ball pool?
Yes, and having the cue ball spin backwards is called draw. It is one of the most important early skills to learn for shooting pool. This is done by striking the cue ball slightly below center and accelerating the cue as you stroke through the cue ball. With practice a draw stroke can easily go 2 full table lengths including the bank at one end.
