Since you are asking this question I assume you have the manual transmission. To check the fluid level put the car in gear and engage the parking brake. Safely jack the car up evenly ( two ramps and two jack stands) take out the fill plug ( 17 mm Allen ) located on the passenger side of the transmission toward the top. Put your finger in the hole and the fluid should be level with the bottom of that hole. There's gear oil in there and it stinks so you will want to wash your hands after and have rags ready during.
