We have a two year old female Border Collie (Tasha) weighing about 35-40 lbs. We live in WI and this morning the temp was 6 degrees with a wind chill of about -15. We were outside for about 30 minutes and from running wild to lying on her side in a very stiff position occurred in about 5 minutes. I picked her up and carried her to a heated garage. She could not stand up by herself, her breathing was labored and shallow. and her pupils were dialated. Once I got her in the garage, I wrapped her in towles and laid her on my lap in front of the fire. Within 15 minutes she was recovering. I then carried her to the house. One hour later, she seemed to be back to her normal self. The balance of the day was uneventful,,,,, Thank God

I have 3 siamese cats and 2 rough collies. Having said that, border collies are an entirely different breed than rough collies. Border collies are extremely intelligent and can be excellent family members with firm training. Siamese cats are not going to be subject to training in my opinion, but they are the best of all the cat breeds in terms of intelligence. No not all border collies are hyper. it depends how you raise them. if they get no exersize and get over fed your border collie will be lazy. if you take your collie for walks about 4-7 times a week and keep him on a good diet your border collie will be fit and hyper, but they wont be over hyper even fit border collies can be lazy sometimes.
