If you drill a bowling ball without locating its PAP will it affect the way the ball hooks?

Yes. If you drill the ball on the wrong side it would be considered a "dead" ball and will not hook correctly. A ball can be drilled for different styles of hooking a ball as well, depending on how aggressive the bowler's style is.

What are the different names for strikes?

The progression of strikes is as follows: On the left are standard names, on right are some odd names I have seen or heard through the years.

1 = Strike
2 = Double
3 = Turkey or Gobbler
4 = Hambone
5 = Recently heard referred to as yatzee or five bagger
6 = Sometimes referred to as a six pack or six bagger or wild turkey.
7 = Seven baggger
8 = Eight bagger
9 = Nine bagger or golden turkey
10 = Ten bagger
11 = Eleven bagger
12 = Twelve bagger or 300 game or Perfect Game

Anything after a strike may be referred to as a(n) "x bagger" (where x = number of consecutive strikes), 5 bagger or 7 bagger for example. They may also simply be referred to as "x in a row."

"Front x" - The number of consecutive strikes thrown starting with the first frame. For example, the front seven (strikes in frams 1-7).

"Back x" or "x out the door" - The number of consecutive strikes thrown through the tenth frame. For example, the back seven (stikes in frames 6-10).

Who win in bowling?

The team with the highest score (most pins) wins. Most leagues are "handicapped" so the final score is the handicap plus the actual pins knocked down.

Where should you aim when attempting to bowl a strike?

Bowlers aim for the "pocket." The "pocket" is the spot between the 1-3 pins if you are a right-handed bowler and the 1-2 pins if you are a left-handed bowler. Ideally, if you are a newer bowler and you throw your ball straight you would aim between the middle and the arrow directly right (if you are a right-handed bowler) or directly left (if you are a left-handed bowler). If one continues to bowl and becomes skilled enough to hook the ball then they can learn to adjust to throw at any arrow.

What is the meaning of taps bowling?

"No-tap" bowling is a fun tournament format where hitting a set number of pins with your first ball counts as a strike. Nine-no-tap is the most common - if you hit nine pins, you score a strike. You can also do a no-tap game where every bowler has a different no-tap count - maybe you have a parent-child bowling tournament where the parents are throwing nine no-tap and the kids seven or eight no-tap.

Is there an impossible bowling score?

There is a score of 301 that can be made.

If at any stage of the game you manage to only drop the no.1 pin (front pin) and no other, your score will automatically be 301 and the game will end.

How do you bowl step by step?

1. You put your thumb, middle finger, and ring finger in the bowling ball

2. You stand wherever you plan on standing (that all depends on how much your ball curves)

3. You take a step forward while holding the ball directly in front of you

4. You take two more steps forward while swinging the ball directly in back of you (not behind your butt, that will make your ball curve more than you want it to)

5. You take your final step (hopefully now you are right in front of the lane), swing the ball forward, let go (make sure your hand/arm isn't curving and the ball is where you want it), and follow through (put your hand up to your ear as if you were answering your cell phone).

Tip~ Keep your eyes on the spot you want your ball to go. It really works!

Hope that helps!

In bowling what side is the Jersey side?

If you are a right handed bowler your natural pocket would be the 1-3. If you throw a ball that hits the 1-2 pocket, that would be considered the 'Jersey' or "Brooklyn' side. It is just the opposite for a lefty. A lefty's pocket would be the 1-2 and if they threw a ball that hit the 1-3 pocket, that would be considered 'Jersey' or 'Brooklyn'.

Where would you Increase friction in a bowling alley?

If it was my bowling center, I would increase friction on the three boards closest to the gutter on each side of the lane, and the first five feet of the approach. On the lane, the extra friction will reduce the number of gutter balls - which will make the occasional bowlers happier and encourage them to bowl more. On the approach, the extra friction will let you step off better.

How do you figure out a rotation for a 5 man bowling team with seven men on it?

I have found that if a team uses their second highest avg bowler in the number one spot then the highest avg in the number five spot then third high in the number four spot and fourth high in the two spot and the lowest avg in the three spot works well. It would look like this:

1. Bob (202 avg)

2. Rob (185 avg)

3. Rex (173 avg)

4. Frank (198 avg)

5. Jim (210 avg)

It is good to have a lead off bowler as a pace setter and have a solid anchor bowler.

Hope this helps. Tom
