The minimum depth of water is as high as the turtle is wide so that it can move freely, but I recommend giving it as much water as you can. Aquatic turtle spend most of their life in the water, and they are far more agile while swimming. This isn't to say that they don't need a place to climb out though.

Turtles are predators during their younger years, but switch to a mostly vegetarian diet in their older age, so what you feed it will depend on the turtle you have.

Earthworms, large beetles and small fish are great for a youngster, but you can still give them the store bought turtle pellets to round out the diet (they need the vitamin d supplement to stay healthy). Older turtles have larger appetites and may still eat meat, so I don't recommend keeping any expensive fish with them. Some people might find feeding turtle live fish as barbaric, but this is how they eat in the wild and it gives them much needed exercises. It also makes the tank seem less empty.

Keep in mind that if you do keep fish in the tank you will need something to keep it oxygenated, and turtles are very messy eaters, so you will have to scoop fish parts out with a net every now and then. Turtles can also eat bits of ham and such, but that isn't really a part of their diet. In fact they will eat almost anything that moves. Older ones "should" eat lettuce and vegetables, but they might be picky, so you'll have to find out what yours likes.

Sadly, many reptile pets including turtles can carry salmonella, so you should make sure to thoroughly clean you hands after handling them or their water. They can also be aggressive, so keep you hands away from their face or they may bite you.

When picking up a turtle, try to get a hold of the turtle form behind, if you grab them by the side, their legs can get a grip on you and scratch you; large turtles have pretty sharp claws.

look in moist areas and sometimes on the road after it rains if you have a forest near your house you can get permission to enter go in and look under wet leaves or on the ground under dead leaves. Also you would have more of a chance on a rainy day.

P.S. Don't forget your rain coats and umbrella's.

We have a small Mexican Box Turtle, native to our Southern California area, which we rescued from a dog. He (not sure) prefers meal worms, natural worms from the garden and loves snails. He will eat every few days and let's us know as he becomes more active and looks around. He consumes about six medium to large mealworms or one or two snails each time. If not hungry he will just walk away from the food. On occasion he will eat some greens or a small piece of peach. As the winter comes he will naturally increase his intake before hibernating for several months. We have had him for several years now and found little advice from local vets. He is not an aquatic turtle but loves to swim and gets his hydration from absorption, which is when he defecates well.

i really don't know sorry, but i have two turtles (red eared sliders) and my female seems to be a little friendlier than may male, but i wouldn't say one way or another. both genders seem to be pretty friendly.

Research. If you found the turtle your local library should have books of animals that are common in your area. You can call your local pet shop and ask them if they have someone who is knowledgable about turtles. If so, ask them if you can bring your turtle and have them look at it. If you can't transport it try a picture.

look at it, if it has a trait like red ears, then search "red ear turtle" on Google. they will have pictures, if the picture shows your turtle, then they will probably have the actual name.

on level ground box turtles can walk at up to around one sixth of a mile per hour, which is about 14.5ft per min. but a box turtle will rarely walk for long distances without stopping so its hard to measure how much they can actually travel in an hour. in the wild, a box turtle will spend most of its time sleeping or sunning. any other time would be spent foraging for food and wouldn't be likely to walk more then a hundred yards in a day (roughly 12ft per hour).

It all depends on how much experience you have with them I would not get it till you have read enough about them. Although they will bite and it will hurt they can be some what tamed if done properly

Turtles are a semi aquatic species, while the crested gecko is a semi arboreal species. It is best as a hobbyist to replicate the natural environment for reptile species. In the wild, it would be very unlikely that a turtle would co exist with a gecko, so in captivity it would be best to leave these two animals separate. Most geckos require an extremely humid or dry area to live, not necessarily wet and filled with water. There is also the possibilities that a gecko can drown in water deeper than a shallow drinking bowl.

Box turtles are omnivores. They will eat almost anything, but just because they like it does not mean they should have it. A good rule of thumb when feeding box turtles is to give them only the kinds of things they would find in the wild. They may enjoy dairy products but they are not part of a turtle's natural diet.

Greens{lettuce} no iceburg, no spinach! romane is best! EARHTWORMS! -again, mine love them, they eat a lot of them. they just find them in the soil and gulp em' down! they are a nice snakc because they can alwasy find them in the dirt That is about it, oh just make sure you cut the fruit to a sensible size so it doesnt choke....or can actually eat it! A Full Habitat Costs About 75-100 dollars and they can live outside but during the colder seasons bring them in and put them under a UV light.
