How many animals died from the 2010 oil spill?
Although the statistics are kinda uncertian, I'd say well over the thousands. The ten thousands. Maybe even a million. I mean, Think about it. The animals IN the water ON TOP OF the water and AROUND the water, IN the sand, the list goes on and on. Lets just say every animal that comes close to that oil mess is in risk of a 99.9% of getting covered in sticky burning thick oil that will 1) drown them 2) Suffocate them 3) Burn them to death{the oil burns to the touch} or 4) Other like they swallow it or whatever. In which they cant do with out getting in to it :( Its really sad!

Name the place of latest oil spill?
On March 24, 1989, the Exxon Valdez ran aground on Bligh Reef in Prince William Sound, Alaska. The tanker was traveling outside the normal shipping lanes in an attempt to avoid ice. It spilled 10.8 million gallons of oil (out of a total cargo of 53 million gallons) into the marine environment, and impacted more than 1,100 miles of non-continuous Alaskan coastline. State and Federal agencies continue to monitor the effects of this spill, which was the largest oil spill in U.S. history.

The BP oil spill began on April 20. The best estimate of initiation of uncontrolled flow (blow out) to the rig floor was 9:48 pm when power was lost, due to explosions caused by hydrocarbon flow. How did the BP oil spill impact your economy?
The BP oil spill had an impact on the economy of the Gulf states, with the largest impact on Louisianna. Due to the prohibition to fishing, the fishing industry, primarily shrimpers suffered. See link on the financial estimates.
Also, tourism declined in the area due to closing beaches or concern that the beaches would be closed and seafood unsafe to eat.
Finally, the prohibition of exploratory deepwater drilling following the spill, means that many rig workers will lose their jobs. This is more a consequence of the US government's decision to place a moratorium on new drilling than a direct result of the spill.

It's several miles under the surface of the water and BP did not have a plan of what to do in a 'worst case' 'what if this happened' disaster. BP is just making it up as they go along. They keep trying ideas to see if they will work, and when they don't, they try out another idea.

How has the oil spill affected the lithosphere?
Obviously it is has caused pollution and killed various wild life, but as to a long lasting effect the media likes to blow things out of proportion. The earth is much more resilient than one would think.
Oil will adhere to many surfaces. Many natural materials such as straw, grass, coconut husks, wood chips and mats made of hair will absorb oil. I have included links to some of the manufacturers of commercial sponges and chemical products.
These links may be more promotional than factual, as I don't believe there is any product that will absorb only oil. There are many materials that will have an oil preference.
When a small spill occurs in calm water, particularly a harbor, lake or river, use of containment booms and absorbing material may be effective. Also, absorbents can be effective for soaking up land spills.

Estimates from the beginning of 2010 were near five thousand. However, more are dying daily.
In terms of land animals, at least 3000 have died, tens of thousands of others have been affected. Millions of sea organisms have been affected, but there is no accurate count.
It is hard to tell how many of the animals have died directly as a result of the oil spill, how many indirectly died, and how many died due to natural causes.
LOTS.
What is life like on a deep sea oil rig?
It is different. A offshore rig worker works on a rotational schedule. Generally, work is a straight 14 day hitch. In many foreign countries, a common hitch is 28 days. This would be called a 28/28, as you get 28 days of work and 28 days off work. The company pays for your transportation from your home base to the rig site.
There are no holidays. Hours are long. Accomodations are cramped.
For every job on a rig, there has to be two people, typically a day shift person and a night shift person. Bringing alcohol aboard a rig is prohibited. There may be special smoking rooms. All rigs have workout rooms.
Life means missing special occasions with friends and family. The internet and the many forms of communication helps greatly in this manner.
Work hours may exceed 12 hours, but you don't have to worry about meals, laundry or a commuting to work, so it doesn't seem that hard.
I've included a link on offshore life.

What are the top ten worst oil spills?
This is a pretty contentious question. You may find printed in the media that the BP spill is the worse, but then there are qualifiers or the conditions that bring it to the top of the list. How do you define "worse"- largest, most environmental damage, most costly.
The BP spill is ongoing, but when it ends, it may be the most costly spill in the world. I don't think it will be the largest, but this is speculative because the rate estimates are still be identified.
In the end, the Atlantic Express (1979) may rank as the world's largest recent spill. Ixtoc-1 well blowout is presently the largest blow out in the Gulf Coast but the BP spill far surpasses it in cost.

How was the BP oil spill contained?
I think it was more of an attempt to contain the oil, rather than a complete containment of the oil, as oil washed up on beaches in four states and entered the wetlands in Louisiana. There were miles of oil booms laid in the Gulf to hold back the oil. To protect the wetlands, special berm were designed.
A number of other measures were developed to reduce the amount of oil that spilled into the gulf. See related link.
