"Boola Boola" is the title of Yale University's football fight song. His girlfriend was going off to college, to hang out with sorority-types who love to go to stupid football games, and he figured she'd be singing a lot of cheer songs at games. He was being sarcastic.

It is a shame that Buddy Holly died so young, because he undoubtedly would have become even more famous than he did. His main achievement was having a number of hit songs in the early years of rock & roll, as a member of the rockabilly group Buddy Holly & the Crickets, and as a solo artist. His two biggest were probably "That'll Be the Day" (with the Crickets) and "Peggy Sue" (as a solo artist). To this day, his hit songs from the 1950s are still performed by contemporary rock and country performers.

Contrary to popular myth, "boola boola" doesn't mean anything, it is just a song written Yale Bowl. The author was 1901 Yale graduate Allan M. Hirsh, who adapted the song from an 1898 song called "La Hoola Boola."

Sorry , Buddy Holly died in a plane crash 1959, along with Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. The song "American Pie" is a tribute to them.

Maria Elena Santiago Holly claimed to have miscarried the child two months after Buddy's death. There is speculation from those "in the know" at the time that she misrepresented herself and was not in fact pregnant at all, and was using it to get attention and sympathy from the press. We only have her word on it. She can say anything she pleases, and the only person that could refute her claims perished in a plane crash in 1959. Personally, I think that she has been milking the Buddy Holly name for years. She remarried and raised a family, but went back to using the surname Holly as soon as she could because she realized what a cash cow it was. That speaks volumes about her character and "devotion" to Buddy. She threatens to sue (and has) anyone who even mentions his name unless she gets a cut.

She was in Lubbock at the time of the funeral, but elected not to go. There was a little jealousy and rivalry going on between her and Peggy Sue Allison who was married to the Crickets drummer, J.I. Allison. Peggy Sue claims that Buddy was going to divorce Maria for her and Maria was jealous that Peggy Sue was at the funeral with Buddy's family and was packing to go back to New York while Buddy's service was going on!!! That is the real reason she did not attend his funeral.....jealousy and having a hissy fit. If she was that unwell due to pregnancy, why on earth would she immediately get on a plane to fly to New York? Makes no sense, why not hang out in Lubbock with the in-laws until she felt well enough to travel. Perhaps she was not really pregnant after all. Buddy's pals said he never mentioned her being pregnant or wanting a child. This is all pretty well documented.

There is alot of conjecture that Maria Elena was not in fact pregnant and that she used this as a means for sympathy and attention. No medical records support her claim. Her reputation has suffered as time has passed.

Very often, American and British pop stars will refer to famous TV shows or famous movie stars-- in fact, originally, "Buddy Holly" was going to have a mention of movie star Ginger Rogers rather than TV star Mary Tyler Moore. The song itself is an up-beat tune about not caring what other people say. The lyrics say the singer looks like Buddy Holly: Buddy was a rising young rock star of the late 1950s, but he was not very handsome; and then he says his girlfriend looks like Mary Tyler Moore-- in the TV show in which she starred in the 1970s, she was young and cute (some people said too cute) and she always had an optimistic personality. So, even if people cannot see the two of them together because he's perhaps not handsome and she's just so cute, he says he will always love her no matter what.

'The Big Bopper' (wasn't a band) was Jiles P Richardson Jr. He was a dj, singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He was killed in the plane crash with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens. JP Richardson had watched college students doing a dance called 'The Bop', and nicknamed himself 'The Big Bopper'.

Buddy Childers died on May 24, 2007, in Los Angeles, California, USA of complications of cancer.
