The first camels were introduced into Australia in 1840 by John Ainsworth Horrocks, who opted to use them in his exploration of the arid interior. Nine camels were imported from the Canary Islands but only one, named Harry, still survived six years later, as little was understood of the camels' needs.
After Harry the camel managed to shoot Horrocks while he was trying to remove his gun from its pack, leading to a lingering and agonising death for Horrocks, the animal was itself shot.
The next large group of camels was brought to Australia by George Landells in 1860 for the purpose of what would be later known as the Burke and Wills' expedition from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria. These were the predecessors of today's wild camels.

HOW fats are metabolized after a long period without food?
There are two different answers to this question. I will use lay terms. If a person's body has been subjected to starvation such as what POWs and the Jews had happened to them then fats will not be absorbed properly. The only way they can help a person like that is to introduce a liquid diet first with some beef or chicken broth to help the body relearn to absorb and metabolize fats, minerals and vegetables. If a person's body is obese and has been subjected to a period of starvation or fasting that person can still metabolize fats because that person's body has been borrowing fats from his or her own body fats. However that person's body would still need to have foods reintroduced at a slow pace because the stomach has been starved and will reject a lot of solids. It's like treating the person like a baby. You start with liquids, mushy easy to digests cereals and bananas or applesauce. Then ground vegetables and fruits. You work your way up to more solid foods as long as that person is tolerating the foods. The fats will be able to be metabolized well by then. The fats are accepted in the stomach then passed into the intestinal track to be put into the bloodstream for the body to use or store as needed. Additional note: Starvation is not a healthy method of weight loss or diet plan. You must maintain proper nutrition and caloric intake. Failure to do so will result in ketosis, scurvy, berry berry, bone loss, muscle loss, serious consequences for the heart, organs and teeth. Proper exercise (simple walking) and proper diet is the best method.
