If you are thinking of a numismatic collectible item, it is the 1936 dot cent, which sold for 402,000 dollars in January. If you are asking about face value, the most expensive circulating coin is 2 dollars, and the most expensive collectible coin would be around 500 or something like that.

Canada has never issued a Halfpenny or half cent coin since Confederation.

Prior to Confederation, any Halfpenny coins circulating in what was to become Canada would have been British Halfpennies. British coins do not have the country name on them.

Until Confederation, private banks such as the Bank of Upper Canada and the Bank of Montreal, issued their own coins and some of the provinces such as New Brunswick and Nova Scotia issued their own coins.

Most agencies like American Express or Deak prefer not to exchange coins because they're more difficult to store and transport than bills, so trying to convert them to US $ there would be expensive and/or difficult.

It's a matter of terminology. There's actually no US (or former Canadian) coin called a "penny"; the official name is "cent". However when the coins were first made in the 18th and 19th centuries they were large, about the same size as British one-penny coins. Because many people were familiar with the old British pennies, they continued to call the new 1-cent coins "pennies" as a slang term, and it's stuck ever since.

It's the same way we talk about "dialing" a telephone even though rotary-dial telephones haven't been in common use since the 1970s.

A 1961 Canadian penny may seem old to you, but numismatically it is a youngster. It is still pretty much worth 1 cent, although with the recent increase in copper prices, it may be worth nearly 2 cents for the metal.

The pfennig and deutsche mark are no longer in use in Germany, having been replaced by the Euro in 2002. In 1993, a 10 pfennig coin would have been equivalent to about 6 US cents. As to the numismatic value of the coin, while they were produced in five different mints (and so have five different mintmarks), all are worth no more than about 10 US cents in Uncirculated condition and 40 US cents in proof condition. In circulated condition, the coin is worth little more than its value as scrap metal (although you could, in theory, bring it in to a branch of the Deutsche Bundesbank - the German Central Bank - in Germany and they would exchange it into 5.1129 Euro cents, about 7 US cents).

Coins made of mostly nickel, or containing steel, will be attracted to a magnet.

Canadian nickels, dimes, and quarters made in the late 20th century were made of mostly nickel, which was comparatively cheap in Canada. Conversely, from 1982 to 1999, Canadian nickels were not magnetic, being mostly copper like US nickels. Beginning in 2000, all fractional Canadian coins have steel centers, and are magnetic. $1 and $2 coins are not magnetic.

1967, regardless of the date, will not be worth very much. Pretty well everyone in Canada has one of these sets because everyone bought one when they came out, and they are all in beautiful condition. The silver weight of the coins is 1.11 ounces, and that's about the going rate for them.

Ten cents - it's not silver, it's nickel. Canada uses single-layer coins instead of the 3-layer "sandwich" metal used in the U.S.

It depends on its date and condition.

Anything from the last 30 to 40 years won't have much extra value unless it's in top-quality condition, but older coins may (emphasis on "possibly") be worth more.

At a bank, it's still worth 10 cents.

Any quarter from before 1968 was made with silver. Generally, unless your coin is in mint condition, your coin will be worth the current value of silver.

These coins were issued in celebration of the Centennial and show a bobcat (lynx) rather than a cougar.

They were originally struck in an alloy of 80% silver and 20% copper but halfway through the year rising silver prices forced the Royal Canadian Mint to debase the coins to 50% silver. Roughly 24 million of each type were minted; it's difficult to tell them apart on sight.

An 80% silver version has a melt value of about 0.15 times the current price of silver while a 50% silver version uses a factor of about 0.10.

The coin is actually made of pure nickel, NOT silver, and it's still worth one Canadian dollar.

All U.S. silver coins contained 90% silver, except for 1965-69 halves that were 40%.
