Captain John Smith

Captain John Smith was an English explorer. He is credited with the success of Jamestown. He wrote about many of his adventures, including how Pocahontas threw herself across his body to save him from her father's wrath. However, it is widely believed that many of his stories were dramatized versions of events, and sometimes outright falsehoods.

He did NOT save Jamestown. He was only there a very few months and he lied about his contribution to the settlement in a book he wrote several years later. He also made up the story about Pocahontas and she died young so couldn't refute his story. The man who did save Jamestown was the husband of Pocahontas and gave tobacco seeds to the colony. That was John Rolfe.

Did John Smith kill Indians?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

He was exploring near the Chickahominy river and they took him for prisoner because they thought he was a threat. No one is really sure he was captured, because it involved a wild story of the chiefs daughter from saving him from execution. There weren't any recordings of Pocahontas before John Smith.

Why is captain john smith important?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Because he forced the pilgrims to work for food, shelter, and without him they would not have survived.

Captain John Smith assisted at Jamestown. He never had direct contact with the Pilgrims at Plymouth. He was originally a candidate for military adviser to the Separatists journeying to America on the Mayflower, but they were put off by his strong personality and worldly ways; they were afraid he would dominate decision making in the new colony and bring non-religious practices with him. They instead hired Captain Myles Standish to protect, defend, and guide the Pilgrims. Standish did an outstanding, courageous job and was head military adviser for over 20 years. Note: Later John Smith groused that the Pilgrims should have used his maps or hired him, because then they would have moved to Boston harbor right away where there was deep water for the landing of many large vessels and three nearby rivers to facilitate trade and commerce.

Where were John Rolfe and John Smith From?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Smith was an Englishman who was sent to Jamestown in the second year of the colony. He later wrote a book about his short time there and lied. Pocahontas was a little Native American girl who may have met Smith, but her story is more interesting than what is told in the fable about her. She was kidnapped by the leader of the colony, held for 4 years, renamed Rebecca, became a Christian, married John Rolfe, left for England, had a baby boy, and died at the age of 19 or 20.

She didn't save Smith and she was a little girl. The story we know is not true. Actually the colonist landed in an area of 14,000 Native Americans and in the worse land in the area. Powhatan pretty much left them alone. I think he figured that they would die from the bad water and disease . He was fairly right. Within 6 months there were only 34 men left alive of the 104 who came. It wasn't until after his death that the brother of Powhatan attacked the colony. The story about Smith is also not true. Did Pocahontas has an affair with John Smith?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

YES. The answer is yes. Native American girls by rule were naked from ages 0 to 12. Pocahontas was 12 when the White Settlers took over. She was 100% naked from head to toe when she met John Smith and the millions of other European settlers. At age 12, the most beautiful little girl in the Powhatan tribe moved in with the White Settlers. Always stark naked, she would entertain the White Settlers with her naked cartwheels and her tight perfect little body. Being the only girl and Native American in the entire group of White Men by the millions, she would participate in thousands of gangrapes and gangbangs with the White Men. She was only 12 and her life felt like Heaven. GOD IS A WHITE MAN!
