On 9 June 1865, Charles Dickens was involved in the Staplehurst rail crash. The train he was on derailed, resulting in 10 people dead and many injured, including Dickens himself. This event had a profound impact on Dickens and haunted him for the rest of his life.

No one is really sure because the only person he told about it was his editor, who died with the secret. Many are lead to believe that either his close friend fell into the glue machine in his factory and was turned into shoe polish (I know, very gruesome and traumatic, but labor conditions in Victorian England were some of the worst in history) or he might have been raped.

He escapes and is already recaptured. He knows that he's going to be stuck for a long time anyway, and it doesn't make a whole lot of difference in his sentencing whether he stole the food or not. Mostly, though, he is grateful to Pip for bringing him the food, and he doesn't want Pip to get in trouble for doing it. In short: he's a good person.

Dr. Manette views his bench and tools as symbols of his identity and his connection to his past profession. John Barsad informed Defarge that Dr. Manette had been making shoes in his old prison cell during his time as a prisoner, suggesting that Dr. Manette's mental health had greatly deteriorated during his imprisonment. This news deeply upset Defarge because he had kept Dr. Manette's existence and activities hidden from his daughter, Lucie.

Lucy's song is about lasting scars. It is suggested that Lucy is deceased, as the wind "gently blows/ As if to soothe her in her sleep!" Although sleep being related to death is merely a conjecture, it is evident that the narrator is experiencing loss or perhaps regret when analysing the last four lines. It is a poem of beauty and sadness, about mourning the death of someone dear.

It is not actually known if Charles Dickens slept in a particular direction to improve his writing, because he was an insomniac, or for other reasons, but he had to lay in the middle of a bed that was positioned so his head pointed to the north.

Charles I was executed in 1649 after being found guilty of high treason by the English Parliament during the English Civil War. He had repeatedly clashed with Parliament over issues of power and authority, leading to his overthrow and eventual trial and execution.

Blacking, a substance used to polish and shine shoes, was traditionally made from a combination of ingredients such as soot, beeswax, and oils. The soot would be mixed with the other ingredients to create a paste that could be applied to shoes. Over time, commercial blacking products have been developed that may contain different ingredients for better performance.

Charles Dickens was an author, but he was also a very shrewd businessman. When he wrote Great Expectations, it was released as a serial (pieces of it were released every week, which people usually paid very little for), and people paid more than they would have had they bought it as a book (it is said that Dickens invented the soap opera and paper back book - his method of ending novels with cliffhangers made people want to buy the next installment of his book, and he eliminated the major cost of printing books during the Victorian era - the wooden covers by printing on regular paper for the entire book). Once the book was released, the story was released in a hardback, which people often bought because they wanted to have the novel all together, not the scattered paper back pieces that they had bought earlier. After that, Dickens had people go door to door to try to buy back people who had the entire collection of Great Expectations, which was then used to make another book, a "deluxe edition" that was advertised to use the original copies of the book. Dickens had at this point, sold people the same book three times!

Some enjoyable incidents in "David Copperfield" include David's experiences as a child at Blunderstone, his friendship with Steerforth at school, his time working at Murdstone and Grinby's, and his relationship with Agnes. Additionally, the humorous and colorful characters throughout the novel, such as Mr. Micawber and Aunt Betsey, provide moments of joy and entertainment.

Pip learns that the two convicts are responsible for stealing the pie and file he had provided for the other convict. He also discovers that the convicts have a connection to his own life as one of them mentions a young boy named Pip.

He has claimed to have never done drugs, in an interview before.

"Pip pip onk onk" doesn't have a specific meaning in English. It could be a made-up phrase or sound effect that doesn't have a known definition.

Miss Havisham wants to see Pip spend money because it reminds her of the broken promises and heartache she experienced in her own past. She derives pleasure from seeing Pip fall into the same traps of materialism and love, as it validates her own bitterness and sorrow. Overall, Miss Havisham's desire for Pip to spend money is tied to her own psychological issues and desire for revenge.

The convict tells Pip that his companion is his younger brother who he is trying to protect. He does this to appeal to Pip's sympathy and kindness, hoping Pip will help them both by bringing them food and a file to break the chains.

Tiny Tim, the entertainment personality- Not the Dickens character, is believed to have succumbed to complications from diabetes. The man was not at all normal, as his unusual performing mannerisms suggest. There was an acrobat named Tiny- She was a lady and was associated with the Disney organization. I have no idea how she died, indeed am researching it.

Pip mentions that he has a powerful secret to share, leading Jaggers to believe he may have leverage. This prompts Jaggers to divulge more details about Estella’s past and background. Pip’s persistence and clever tactics ultimately persuade Jaggers to share the information.

He died on 9th June 1870 in Gad's Hill Place.

Miss Havisham leaves most of her money to her relative, Matthew Pocket, who is working as a tutor. She also leaves some money to her adopted daughter, Estella, with the hope that Estella will finally find happiness.
