Charlie Bone

In a mix-up at the photo developer, Charlie Bone receives a photo of a man and a baby instead of the one he dropped off of his friend's dog which he planned to use for his friend Benjamin's birthday card. Charlie is shocked when he realizes he can hear the voices of the two in the photo (and the person who had taken the picture), but his other grandma Grizelda Bone and great-aunts are thrilled. They inform Charlie that because of his magical endowment, he can now attend Bloor's Academy. Charlie is placed in the school's music department because his father, whom Charlie believes is dead, had been a pianist.

Charlie then receives a mysterious visit from a man Mr. Onimous, who tells Charlie he was brought there by his three cats.(Aries,Leo and Sagittarius). Mr. Ominous tells Charlie he must go to Bloor's even though he doesn't want to, because that is where the lost baby who was in the photo is. Charlie returns the photograph to its correct owner, Julia Ingledew, who says it is the only picture she has of her long-lost niece Emma Tolly, who was given away to the Bloors by her brother-in-law Dr. Mostyn Tolly in exchange for something that is a mystery to her--a long silver case. To thank Charlie, Julia gives him a robotic dog that plays tapes and the case. To keep the items safe from his nosy aunts and grandmother, Charlie gives the items to his best friend, Benjamin Brown.

At Benjamin's house, Benjamin and Fidelio Gunn (another one of Charlie's friends who tutors him with his music on Sundays) play the tape in the robotic dog, which gives instructions from Dr. Tolly on how to open the case (which is called "Tolly Twelve Bells") and awaken Emma, who would now be the same age as Charlie. Charlie, Fidelio, Benjamin, and his uncle Paton must try to retrieve the missing baby. The girl happens to go to Bloor's, and she is endowed. Her name is Emilia Moon, which is her adopted name. Her real name is Emma Tolly. Charlie asks for the help of friend, and fellow Bloor's student, Olivia, to help get the attention of Emilia (Emma Tolly, the missing girl).

Meanwhile, Benjamin receives an unwelcome visit from Eustacia, one of Charlie's great-aunts(who fed him horrible soup), who believes Tolly Twelve Bells is still hidden in his house (it was at one time, but it was then moved to Fidelio's house). He accidentally makes her believe that the case is in the cellar and his dog, Runner Bean, is guarding it, so Asa, the beast-boy, becomes a beast and attacks Runner.

Gradually it appears that Paton is no longer keeping his head down and he is trying to help Charlie. He is greatly angered by the attack on Runner Bean.

Olivia convinces Emilia, who is quite easily lead seeing as she is hypnotised, to come to Fidelio's house. They open the case, which turns out to contain a tape of the church bells that were sounding when Emma was hypnotised by Manfred Bloor. She is awakened and starts sobbing uncontrollably, realising that her adopted parents do not love her.

Emma goes back to the Moon household (the Moons are people who the Bloors are paying well to take care of her, but they do not really love her). The Moons are very angry with her, and say she has 'broken the rules and must face the consequences'. She is dragged to Bloor's, where she is imprisoned in a dark, stone room with only one, high up window. An invisible presence opens the door for her, but she is soon recaptured. She remembers that Charlie said she could fly, and she transforms into a bird and escapes.

She transforms back to a human again, and encounters Paton. They are both going to Ingledew's (Paton really likes Julia, and he took her out for dinner, but his endowment is boosting powers which causes breaking of light bulbs, so all the bulbs shattered and he ran off in terror without paying the bill, and she is really mad). For a few days, Emma and Julia lock themselves in the bookstore, but the Moons were pounding on the door, insisting that they couldn't prove Emma was Emma Tolly without the adoption papers. The Bloors had them.

Angry, Paton stormed up to the school, and demanded the papers. When Dr Bloor refused, Paton started exploding all the lights. The Bloors didn't want any attention brought to the illegal adoption, so they threw the papers out of the window to Paton. So Emma was with her aunt, and away from the Bloors. Charlie decides he needs to stay at Bloor's Academy, to help protect people like Emma.

In the book "Silent to the Bone" by E.L. Konigsburg, foreshadowing is used to hint at the true cause of the injury to the main character, Connor. Suspense is built as clues suggest that Connor's silence may be related to a traumatic event involving his baby sister, and ultimately, the foreshadowing leads the reader to uncover the truth behind the mystery.

Robert Ludlum wrote 3, he is the creator of Bourne. The series were continued by Eric Van Lustbader when Robert Ludlum died. The character bourne is still in the new novels.

Well, in the 1rst book, Charlie is 10 years old. So Olivia is either 9 or 10. This is bcause it's normally rare for Jenny Nimmo, with her style of writing, to write books where the girl is older than the boy if they are good friends.

I like Paton, he's cool. Emma, Cook, Tancred, Lysander is okay, Asa Pike was cool, too. (Shockingly) I couldn't stand Charlie Bone. I liked Masie and Amy and Lyell, too. And Benjamin and Runner Bean. And Dagbert, but not when he was first introduced. I liked Zelda Dobinski a little, mostly just her name. And the Onimouses, including Una and Naren Bloor. Ezekial, his son, and Manfred were okay. So was Olivia. I liked Ms. Ingledew, too. Mrs. Kettle was kind of strange. Fidelio was okay. But I loved Senor Alvaro.

In the fourth book Manfred told Billy if he wanted to get adopted he had to steal the wand he did (can you really blame him an 8 year old orphan) Manfred burned it but it didn't get destroyed it turned into a moth. • Picture traveling: Being able to look at a painting or photograph and "go in", meaning to actually go into the painting/photo and meet the person(s) depicted in it. Charlie has this ability, first discovering it when he finds a photo of Dr. Tolly and Emma as an infant and hearing the sounds from when the picture was taken. Apparently Charlie's picture traveling ability strengthens as the series progresses, since at first he can only hear sounds and voices, but later he is able to go into paintings/photos. The only drawback of his ability is that if he looks at a photograph and hears the voices, whoever is in the photo will see his face at that moment; if he looks at a picture of someone who wishes him harm, they will see Charlie and recognise him later. One of Charlie's ancestors, Charles Pennybuck, is mentioned to also have had this ability.
• Telekinesis: The ability to move objects with one's own mind. Zelda Dobinski, Beth Strong, Idith Branko, and her twin Inez all have this ability and they all use it for rather nasty purposes.
• Power boosting: The ability to boost up the energy in light bulbs to the point where they explode. Charlie's great uncle Paton has this ability and it seems to be closely tied with his emotions. For example, when he first developed the talent when he was seven, it had been his birthday; he was so ecstatic that he had exploded all of the light bulbs in the house. At first Paton feels that his power is useless and uncontrollable, but as the series progresses he explores how it works. In The Time Twister he finds that when he is reading or relaxed, light bulbs around him don't explode. When his light bulb-exploding powers are in use, there is a sound around him that is "like a feeling of humming, as if the air around...were charged with soundless music."
• Psychometry through clothing: Being able to feel someone's emotions by wearing one of their articles of clothing. Gabriel Silk can do this, and therefore it is rather painful for him to wear used clothes.
• Flight: Being able to transform into a bird. Emma Tolly does this, but doesn't like it very much as she worries that it might sometime go wrong. If her fingers are injured, she cannot fly because the wing tips of her bird form would be damaged, so this is one of her major weaknesses. Apparently, when Emma turns into a bird she can understand animal languages.
• Invisibility: The ability to become transparent from view at will. Una Ominous ( Mr. Ominous's four year old niece) can do this and she uses this talent for good, helping Charlie and his friends break the spell Manfred had put on Charlie's father.
• Illusion Casting: The ability to create images that aren't really there at will. Olivia Vertigo discovers that she has this particular endowment in The Castle of Mirrors. Olivia uses her endowment for good (like when she used it to create a fierce warrior to force Dr. Bloor into granting Billy the right to spend the weekends with whomever he wants to)and for fun (when she creates a giant alligator to scare Dorcas when she won't stop whining).
• Animal Conversation: Gives the person the ability to communicate with animals. Billy Raven and Lyell Bone have this endowment.
• Fire Tamer: Gives the endowed human to create devastating fire. Can also heat objects by touch. Manfred Bloor later receives this power after losing his hypnotism.
• Hypnotism:Gives the person power to hypnotize others. Manfred Bloor has that power but loses it and turns into a Fire Tamer and later gets hypnotism back.
• Luck and Grace:Gives a person the ability to have good luck. Cook has this ability and so does her sister Pearl.
• Clairvoyance: give a person power to see in to the future. Eustacia Yewbeam has this power.
• Shape Shifting:gives the person power to turn into whatever they desire. Yorath and Yolanda Yewbeam have this power.
• Were-beast: gives the owner of this magic to transform into a type of werewolf at dusk. Asa pike has this endowment.
• Storm Bringer: lets the person bring thunder, lighting, rain, wind, and snow. Tancred Torsson has this endowment.
• Spirit Summoner: lets the person summon up spirits. Lysander Sage posseses this power.
• "Drowning lets the person make others feel the pain of drowning. Dagbert Endless posseses this power
