Someone specially trained, both religiously and medically. The Hebrew title is Mohel.
The truth is however that circumcisions generally are done by people that do not necessarily have any particular training that would pass muster in medical practice. the larget number of circumcisions world wide are done in country where poverty and ignorance are far more prevalent then in For example is real and the USA. most of these people work in a handyman culture.
How old is too old to get circumcised?
Old enough to make an informed choice by yourself.
While it usually isn't particularly important either way, I find the idea of parents deciding on amputation of perfectly healthy body parts almost entirely b/c of tradition quite distasteful.
There is generally no need for males to be circumcised. There is no known medical benefit, and circumcision, like all surgeries, has risks of adverse medical events including surgical error, severe pain, infection, and prolonged bleeding. Additional risks posed by anesthesia include problems with adequate ventilation and maintaining heart rate and blood pressure during the surgery.
While the vast majority of men in the world are not circumcised, circumcision is practiced in some religious and ethnic groups including Judaism and in certain sects of Islam. Circumcision is very rarely performed in any age group except for newborn infants.
What is removal of foreskin called?
Removal of foreskin (whether male or female) is commonly called circumcision, from the Latin meaning "cut around".
This word leaves out the most important fact, that something quite important to a man's sexual functioning is cut off and thrown away. It would be more accurately called "male genital cutting" because it is parallel in many ways with female genital cutting (especially the minor forms involving only the clitoral prepuce). Both are done for custom, habit, and conformity but with an extraordinary variety of other excuses given.
The word "circumcision" carries a heavy freight of associations with ritual purity. The Jewish ceremony, carried out on the eighth day after birth, is called Brit Milah (Hebrew for covenant of cutting).
At what age is it recommended to get circumcised?
I've known of grown men who chose to be circumcised, so you son's age shouldn't be a problem. But depending on the age of your son (if he's old enough to understand the procedure) it may be best to let him make the decision to be circumcised or not. Although, if he's still very young, then discuss it with your doctor. A urologist often does circumcisions, which are usually performed as an office procedure with a local anesthetic.
The truth is that a body can be damaged through circumcision any time during life and it will just heal up, however circumcision does not just leave a wound that heals like for instance a cut in the skin. Circumcision is the amputation of a combination of a unique set up of several specialised tisues that aid in the health and performance of the penis. Therefore in reality any time is too young to have the prepuce amputated unless there is some problem with the tissue that endangers health.
Does a circumcised penis get bigger than an uncircumcised?
That depends on a mans genes and family backround
A:
Actually uncircumcised penises do tend to be bigger. Some people dispute this, but there is a lot of evidence and studies to back it up.
An Australian survey in 1995 showed circumcised men to have erect penises an average of 8mm shorter than intact men.
[1. R. D. Talarico and J. E. Jasaitis, "Concealed Penis: A Complication of Neonatal Circumcision," Journal of Urology 110 (1973): 732-733. 2. Richters J, Gerofi J, Donovan B. Why do condoms break or slip off in use? An exploratory study. Int J STD AIDS. 1995; 6(1):11-8. ]
That 8mm is about a third of an inch, but I know I've seen other places where studies showed it could be as much as 3/4 inch difference between cut and uncut penises. I couldn't find that just now though.
It may be because of the interruption in blood flow the penis experiences after circumcision. It's known that circumcision changes the blood flow, and it's also well known that changing the flow of blood to something can affect its development. Some doctors use this deliberately to block arteries supplying blood to tumers to make them shrink. So why do people have such a hard time accepting that circumcision does this to the penis?
Several feet of blood vessels, including the frenular artery and branches of the dorsal artery are removed in circumcision. This loss of the rich vascularity interrupts normal flow to the shaft and glans of the penis, damaging the natural function of the penis and altering its development. [1. H. C. What is circumcision in short words?
The excision of the protective prepuce or foreskin from the glans of the penis. or in the case of Female circumcision (Genital Mutilation) the cutting of the clitoris and or the cutting of the clitoral hood and or the excision of the labia majora and minora and the sewing together of these so that only a small opening is left for the urine and menstrual fluid. this is a cultural concept that is required of girls in order to be accepted into their society. There are no short words for this.
The easiest way might be to talk with which ever parent you feel most comfortable with. However, you might want to think about this decision for a few years before you decide to ask for a circumcision, as it can not ever be reversed. Once you are of 18 years of age, you can consent to the procedure yourself, and you will not need to tell your parents.
Circumcision is not a minor surgery, but as with any surgery, it still presents some major risks. The most common problems are infection and pain after the surgery. Other common complications after circumcision include decreased penile sensitivity and decreased pleasure during sex. Some men are dissatisfied with the appearance of their penises after circumcisions, and others complain that too much skin was removed, making masturbation difficult. Most of these complications are minor, but every year there are reports of major complications following circumcision. These rare complications include accidential damage and disfiguration to the penis. In the worst cases, multiple deaths occur every year following circumcision due to complications from anesthesia and bleeding.
The best way to procede with weighing the benefits and risks of circumcision is to do some research on your own first, then make an appointment to discuss the procedure at length with your doctor.
How are older boys circumcised?
With local anesthesia, an IV needle, a scalpel and stitches. unless it is a baby and then it is usually done with no painkillers. first of all the foreskin is torn away from the glans because it is still attached at that early age then the foreskin is not so much cut away but crushed away with a special little device. It is a really horrible thing to do to a child. I would rather be assaulted by a catholic priest then a circumcising doctor or mohell any day.
What is wrong with being circumcised?
It's not much of an issue really. Not being circumsized means that you've got a bit of a skin fold there that needs to be kept clean, which might might add something like 5 seconds extra while showering or your daily hygiene routine.
Circumsized men end up developing thicker skin on the glans of the penis, and this thicker skin is thought to offer some protection against certain forms of STDs. It's by no means and insurance, but it might tweak the odds by a few percent.
What equipment is needed for a circumcision?
The typical equipment for circumcision are: Betadine solution, local anaesthetic, scalpel, sharp scissors, haemostats, plastic or metal bell shaped device to cover the glans to protect it from accidental incision, sharp scissors, fenestrated cloth or paper drape, and fine suture. According to the wisdom of some it is better to subject newborn infants the excruciating pain involved in the procedure as local anaesthetic is not particularly effective and general anaesthetic is dangerous. Infants are done in an entirely different way from adults look up "plastibell" circumcision.
Today there are modern devices which makes circumcision easier to perform, less prone to infection, and negate the need for suturing.
How is infant male circumcision performed?
In circumcision of infants, the foreskin is pulled tightly into a specially designed clamp, and the foreskin pulls away from the broadened tip of the penis. Pressure from the clamp stops bleeding from blood vessels that supplied the foreskin
Question exists in regards to the possible health benefits of circumcision. A study published in 2006 indicated that circumcised males have a slightly lower risk of becoming infected with HIV as compared with uncircumcised males. this study has however been discounted after it was found that as a result of the study thousands of men were circumcised in an effort to allay the spread of HIV AIDS. it was found that the spread continued unabated and was quicker among those that were circumcised then among those that remained genitally intact. The most common reasons for infant circumcision in the United States is the perception that it makes the penis easier to clean and so that the boys penis will look like his fathers. However, studies have demonstrated that urinary tract infections in men occur at the same rates in both circumcised and uncircumcised males. Any cleanliness that is facilitated by circumcision has no medical benefit.
The benefits of circumcision it turn out are perceived and simply not based in any real science. Add to this the very real risks, while Circumcision is not a major surgery, it does have as with any surgery, some major risks. The most common problems are infection, pain, and bleeding after the surgery. These rare complications include accidental damage or dis-figuration to the penis. Also rare, multiple deaths occur every year following circumcision due to complications from anesthesia and bleeding. In the case of infant circumcision there also seem to be very real stress related conditions that can follow them into latter life, as well as interfere with mother bonding and other coping conditions such as dealing with pain.
The best way to proceed with weighing the benefits and risks of circumcision is to do some research on your own first, then make an appointment to discuss the procedure at length with your doctor.
What is no longer necessarily true about cirumcision?
Western countries have no tradition of circumcision. In antiquity, the expansion of the Greek and Roman Empires brought Westerners into contact with the peoples of the Middle East, some of whom marked their children with circumcision and other sexual mutilations. To protect these children, the Greeks and Romans passed laws forbidding circumcision.[1] Over the centuries, the Catholic Church has passed many similar laws.[2,3] The traditional Western response to circumcision has been revulsion and indignation.
Circumcision started in America during the masturbation hysteria of the Victorian Era, when American doctors followed the example of the British by circumcising boys in order to stop them from masturbating. Victorian doctors knew very well that circumcision denudes, desensitizes, and disables the penis. Nevertheless, they claimed that circumcision cured epilepsy, convulsions, paralysis, elephantiasis, tuberculosis, eczema, bed-wetting, hip-joint disease, faecal incontinence, rectal prolapse, wet dreams, hernia, headaches, nervousness, hysteria, poor eyesight, idiocy, mental retardation, and insanity.
In fact, no procedure in the history of medicine has been claimed to cure and prevent more diseases than circumcision. As late as the 1970s, leading American medical textbooks still advocated routine circumcision as a way to prevent masturbation. The anti sexual motivations behind an operation that entails cutting off part of the penis are obvious.
The radical practice of routinely circumcising babies did not begin until the Cold War era. This institutionalization of what amounted to compulsory circumcision was part of the same movement that pathologized and medicalized birth and actively discouraged breastfeeding. Private-sector, corporate-run hospitals institutionalized routine circumcision without ever consulting the American people. There was no public debate or referendum. It was only in the 1970s that a series of lawsuits forced hospitals to obtain parental consent to perform this contraindicated but highly profitable surgery. Circumcisers responded by inventing new "medical" reasons for circumcision in an attempt to scare parents into consenting.
Today the reasons given for circumcision have been updated to play on contemporary fears and anxieties; but one day they, too, will be considered irrational. Now that such current excuses as the claim that this procedure prevents cancer and sexually transmitted diseases have been thoroughly discredited, circumcisers will undoubtedly invent new ones. But if circumcisers were really motivated by purely medical considerations, the procedure would have died out long ago, along with leeching, skull-drilling, and castration. The fact that it has not suggests that the compulsion to circumcise came first, the "reasons," later.
Millions of years of evolution have fashioned the human body into a model of refinement, elegance, and efficiency, with every part having a function and purpose. Evolution has determined that mammals' genitals should be sheathed in a protective, responsive, multipurpose foreskin. Every normal human being is born with a foreskin. In females, it protects the glans of the clitoris; in males, it protects the glans of the penis. Thus, the foreskin is an essential part of human sexual anatomy.
Parents should enjoy the arrival of a new child with as few worries as possible. The birth of a son in the US, however, is often fraught with anxiety and confusion. Most parents are pressured to hand their baby sons over to a stranger, who, behind closed doors, straps babies down and cuts their foreskins off. The billion-dollar-a-year circumcision industry has bombarded Americans with confusing rhetoric and calculated scare tactics.
Information about the foreskin itself is almost always missing from discussions about circumcision. The mass circumcision campaigns of the past few decades have resulted in pandemic ignorance about this remarkable structure and its versatile role in human sexuality. Ignorance and false information about the foreskin are the rule in American medical literature, education, and practice. Most American medical textbooks depict the human penis, without explanation, as circumcised, as if it were so by nature.
At what age does your penis get circumcised?
Mine was never circumcised, however if it is done it is often inflicted on children on day 2 of their lives or if they are Jewish on day 8 but it can be done at any time. It is interesting to note however that the vast majority of circumcisions are done to children. they have no choice in the matter. less then 20% of the worlds men are circumcised
Why are boys circumcised on the eighth day?
After the 8th day a baby's blood coagulates more rapidly then before that reducing the risk of the boy bleeding to death. The Jews learned the practice of circumcision from the Egyptians so it is likely that this fact was noticed and incorporated into their religious texts. It takes only a tiny amount of blood loss for an infant to bleed to death. Children are lost as a result every year.
Why do other countries don't do circumcise the male people?
Most men Or should I say children are not circumcised because there is no reasonable reason to damage the penis in so doing. Male genital mutilation is a practice shunned in most of the world
It is only done if the foreskin is too tight for the gland to move in and out freely. Some religions do it as a matter of course though.
Which country does mandatory circumcision?
Circumcision goes back thousands of years and instances of it are found All over the world where it is either a part of religious requirement as in the case of the Jews or a cultural development as is the case with many Muslims. there are also instances where the procedure represents a right of passage from boy hood to man hood. the majority of the worlds people however do not partake in this practice. It was first introduced for non religious reasons in English speaking country's during the Victorian era as a means of discouraging boys from masturbating. it was surmised at the time that it was bad for health to masturbate and that the practice could also make a person insane. In any case circumcision became wide spread in country's like Britain like Australia The USA, Canada South Africa and to some extent in India. It was even taken up by south Korea in an effort to emulate Americans. the procedure is now discredited by all major medical body's as being both damaging and a waste of time
Yes, and he should if there is a clear medical indication that circumcision is the best course of action. Of course he will consult with more than one doctor and will become fully informed about the risks and benefits before doing it. He should know that as a routine procedure done on infants, there is virtually never an indication of medical need at the time it is done. It is just routine, and is more about reducing very slightly the possibility of various problems during later years that are already very low in incidence.
How much circumcision for adult man?
nothing realy aside from the prepuce and that would make no practical iference in the length of the penis. it doeos however take awy the sensation that comes with the with having the surface roled back and forth.
Is being uncircumcised bad or good?
It's one of those things where there is no solid proof either way for this being bad or good. It's generally up to personal preference in the modern world. Being uncircumcised just requires greater hygiene care.
Being circumcised is extremely painful to the infant (or boy/teenager/adult) and is unnecessary. It does not do any major harm to be circumcised, but it doesn't do much good either. Therefore, it is pointless to inflict pain on any infant (or boy/teenager/adult.) It will probably be more painful to anyone over 1 years old due to being adapted to having foreskin.
Should circumcision be a crime?
There are differing viewpoints on whether or not circumcision should be banned. But this based in that many different people force circumcision on their infants for many different reasons.
Some of the common reasons to get circumcisions:
Religious
Cultural
Hygiene
Belief it reduces some medical conditions
To treat some medical conditions
Aesthetics
Some common reasons to not get circumcisions:
Religious
Cultural
Believes that hygeine reasons are not sufficient to justify the procedure
Believes that the medical benefit is not sufficient to justify the procedure
Aesthetics
Human rights
Increased Sexual pleasure
Natural sexual mechanics
It is rarely personal choice of the person, but a condition usually forced on them without their ability to have a say
Several studies have been done, and it has been shown that removal of the foreskin has no effect on the fertility of the man, however sensation and sexual pleasure studies have been mixed.
Can doctors cut too much during a circumcision?
yes if they want to. . . don't worry, they are trained professionals on that field. . .
