Why engineering dynamics is important in civil engineering?

dynamics is basically subject which is more useful in mechanical engg but nowadays when earthquake design of building has gained importance, we, the civil engineers use the dynamic study for the structures to get help regarding earthquake design

What is the result of form having the illusion of the third dimension?

In a memorable scene from the book, Peter Pan returned to the place where he lost his shadow and met Wendy, who sewed his shadow back on for him. The shadow was pulled off when the Darlings' dog Nana caught it and a closing window severed it. "It's quite an ordinary shadow," said Mrs. Darling when she rolled it up and put it in the drawer.

How do you secure purlins to the roof truss?

If you are using treated lumber (pergola etc...) you need to use fasteners that are treated coated or stainless. The fasteners should be applied in pairs at each truss, top and bottom. I recommend screws, particularly in treated wood, that are twice the thickness of the purlin. ( If the purlin is 2 inches thick, use 4 inch fasteners with a minimum of 1 inch piercing into the rafters) If you live in a snowy climate, the fasteners may be subject to shearing loads that preclude the exclusive use of screws for decked or roofed spaces. In that case, you would use hot dipped ring shank nails and use screws on the ends, seams, and every third rafter, to eliminate warpage from pulling the nails out out of the rafters. If you are applying purlins over decking, mark the rafters and use a fastener that is sufficient to pierce 1inch minimum into the rafter. Once again, use dipped treated or stainless fasteners for treated lumber and it might be preferable to use them as insurance in any case. In all cases, it would be best to use local code as your guide and to make sure that your work meets building codes. Checking with the local code enforcement inspectors is a good idea and there are often conditions that require a more stringent standard than the usual, such as high wind or snow loads. Finally, if you are applying a roofing product, chances are that there is information to be had on their website and any forums for the product. It is usually a good practice to build to the highest standard, rather than to suffer the failure of your roof or project.

How many hours do civil engineers work a day?

Most Civil Enginners work between 50 and 60 hours per week

any engineer can even work 5 hours a day and still get payed either $5,000 to $10,000 dollars anyway

Grade of high tensile steel?

Grades of high tensile steel are based on their tensile strength and heat resistance. The best of these are used in axles and other high stress constructions that are required to operation safely.

When was engineering invented?

i dont know when it was invented but the first engineering department was introduced for defense purpose

Answer

Engineering wasn't 'invented'; it evolved over time -probably reaching its peak during the Industrial Revolution.

Advantages and disadvantages of the shear box test?

Advantages:

1) The test's simplicity and, in the case of sands, the ease of specimen preparation.

2) The travel of the machine can be reversed to determine the residual shear strength values, which is shear strength parameters at large displacements.

3) Shear box represents a cheaper method in determining the drained shear strength parameters for coarse-grained soil. Preparing soil samples for other testing methods is relatively difficult and expensive.

disadvantages:

1) The main one: drainage conditions cannot be controlled.

2) As pore water pressure cannot be measured, only the total normal stress can be determined, although this is equal to the effective normal stress if the pore water pressure is zero.

3) Only an approximation to the state of pure shear is produced in the specimen and shear stress on the failure plane is not uniform, failure occurring progressively from the edges towards the center of the specimen.

4) The area under the shear and vertical loads does not remain constant throughout the test.

How do you draw shear force and bending moment diagram for frames and arches?

There are two ways to draw the shear and moment diagrams. First is by writing the shear and moment equations and the other which is more rapid is by using the relationship between load, shear, and moment. For any of the two methods, the first step is to find the reactions at the support(s).

Shear and moment diagram by writing the shear and moment equations

Cut the beam in every segment where there is a change of load. Draw the free body diagram to the left of each exploratory section. Write the shear and moment equations and with these equations, you can easily draw the shear and moment diagrams. For examples and the detailed step by step step instruction on how to do this can be found by the link below:

Using the relationship of load, shear, and moment

Drawing the shear and moment diagrams by using the relationship between load, shear, and moment is more rapid than writing the shear and moment equations. The relationship are as follows:

  1. The slope of shear = Load
  2. Slope of Moment = Shear
  3. Area of load = shear of a segment
  4. Area of shear = moment of a segment
