Is it dangerous to eat paper?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Haha!

Well Honestly, I don't know why, but I have caught myself eating paper and cardboard all the time.

I am 14 years old, and I haven't really seen any side affects.

My friends are always asking

"WHY ARE YOU EATING THAT PIECE OF PAPER?!"

And Honestly I couldn't tell them why.

^_^!

My point is....

No.

I don't think it is dangerous to eat paper.

Maybe if you eat a notebook.

There are dyes in paper, but I don't think there is enough to make you sick.

I actually looked at your question because I started eating a piece of paper and thought about it.

I HOPE I HELPED!!

Bye!

What toys do cockatiels like to play with?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A parakeet would probably like the following: a medium sized ball, a swing, a rope, and a bell. Be careful to not buy a too small toy, as it can be swallowed. These all can be toys and probably can be bought at a local pet store such as Pet Smart or elsewhere. Also keep in mind a second parakeet can keep the parakeet company, or some large toy would work too. Happy shopping! :)

Are cockatiel bites dangerous?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If a little bird bites you the worst it could do is leave a little scar. But if a big bird bites you like a amazon or cockatoo, they could bite of your finger! But birds aren't poisonous, and they won't attack you unless you get too close to their nests or you attack them.

Why does your cockatiel hump his perch?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is possible that the claws may be too long and need to be clipped. Special clippers for birds can be purchased from most pet stores, however care must be taken not to cut through the quick of the nail.

Alternatively, vets offer to clip nails of different animals safely for a small fee.

Ways to avoid nails growing to long can be to provide at least one branch with a birdsafe sandpaper cover (also found at most pet stores) which can help file down the nails on a daily basis without causing the bird any distress.

I don't suggest covering every branch, however, as it can cause some discomfort to the soles of their feet.

What do you do when you think your cockatiel is pregnant?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Cockatiels are birds. Birds do not get pregnant, as reproduction is done through the laying of eggs. The eggs take about three weeks to form properly in the body, but this is not called "pregnancy". They look the same when they are laying eggs as when they aren't. In other words, birds don't "hold" their eggs inside their bodies and show a big belly to indicate that eggs are on the way. The egg shell is the last thing that develops right before the egg is laid, therefore, a hen doesn't "show" in the sense that human women "show" when they are pregnant.

Cockatiels which are getting close to laying an egg become more lively, excitable and playful, not listless and quiet. If they have a nesting box, they will spend a lot more time in the box, preparing it for nesting, and possibly being very protective of that area. If there is a male, he may start feeding the female.

A cockatiel with a swollen abdomen is not a sign of of a bird about to lay an egg. It is either eating too much of a high-fat diet (common among birds with a seed-only diet) or it has a tumor. Swelling in the abdominal area could also mean the parrot is egg-bound, though this tends to present more as swelling near the bird's tail, near the cloacae. She will be distressed and show signs of constipation, be reluctant to move and "waddle" like a penguin. If your bird shows signs of being egg-bound, she must be taken to the vet as soon as possible, as this can be a life-threatening condition.

What is the best way to teach a cockatiel to perch on your finger?

Answer

put the back of your finger on the birds' chest and slide it down to a little bit above the feet and your parakeet should climb on to your finger

Can you pick up your cockatiel?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

You can pick up a cockatiel whether it is hand tame or not. This does influence how you pick it up, though. If your cockatiel is hand tame, you just put it on your finger, your arm, your shoulder, etc. and it just sits there happily. When it is not hand tame, you have to pick the cockatiel up by its back with your index finger and middle finger around its head. On the internet, look up ways to hold an untame cockatiel and find a diagram so that you pick your cockatiel up correctly if it is untame.

Cockatiels do not eat meat. They eat vegetables and seeds.

Can cockatiels eat sunflower seeds?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, of course they can. They split open any type of seed like that and eat the inside of them. It's not good to only give them sunflower seeds to eat without a mixture of a balanced diet. Such as: 30% seed mixture the rest in pellets and fresh vegetables.

(comment edited by Tylor)

Although they can eat sunflower seeds.. it isn't good for them, Most birds when they eat sunflower seeds make them extremely mean, you can search it on many sites.

NEXT ANSWER:

The first cockatiel I owned died from fatty liver disease, caused by eating too many sunflower seeds (according to my vet). It should not be a significant part of their diet.

What do you do when a female cockatiel tries to mate with another female?

If you have another bird in the cage, whether male or female, you should remove the other from the cage permanently, unless you are breeding them. In which case you would removed any other males from the cage.

How do you tell if your common gray cockatiel is a boy or girl?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The only way to tell if your CAG is male or female is to do a DNA blood test. Take your CAG to your avian vet and they will clip its nail just far enough to get a drop of blood. They send it off and you'll get your results in about a week! I DNA tested my CAG and it cost around $20.

How do you help the cockatiel egg hatch?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends. If you only have a girl cockatiel and it has lay-ed an egg it obviously has nothing inside it cause it hasn't done anything so u can just chuck that sort of egg out, but if u have a male and female cockatiel the best idea is to get a little bowl thing or a nest sorta thing and put either cotton balls or tissues in there and then make sure there is enough room for Ur cockatiel to sit on it and then wait till it hatches and yaaaaayyyy!!!!! you have a baby bird.

Do cockatiel live in a tropical rainforest?

User Avatar

No. Cockatiels need drier bushland, with plenty of native seeds, nuts and grasses. Rainforests do not provide them with the sunlight and the food they need.

Is a cockatiel an exotic animal?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends which part of the world you are in. When discussing animal (or plant) species exotic means foreign (non-native to the area, introduced by humans). If you are in the toucan's natural range (in the neotropics) then no, otherwise yes.

Why do cockatiels ruffle there feathers?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I'm not sure If this is what you are asking but they pluck their feathers out because it's like brushing your hair, you purposely don't pull your hair out neither do birds. It can look excessive because it could be when the bird is molting (shedding feathers to make way for new growth) but if the bird starts to develop patches of missing feathers you will need to take it to a vet. That's not how molting works.

Why is my baby cockatiel panting?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Budgies and other birds puff up when they are stressed or sick. If the bird has also decreased eating or drinking water, this can be a sign of a serious condition and the bird needs to go to the vet.

What does a baby cockatiel eat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Before they have been weaned, cockatiels can eat wheat-bix and other soft foods. After they are weaned, cockatiels can eat anything that adult cockatiels eat. Cockatiels love lettuce! (Not too much - it acts as a laxative in large amounts). Your cockatiel will also enjoy carrot and brocolli.

Depends where you live, cockatiel costs vary. In Australia, private breeders charge $40 for a cockatiel, whereas pet shops charge $80-$120.

A simple palyground would be around $20 at a pet store, with more complex and larger playgrounds costing up to $80.

Little toys such as mirrors and colourful, dangly toys cost around $10 each.

Ladders (depending on the size) range from $5-$50.

Bird cages big enough for a cockatiel start at $80. Cages usually come with food and water dishes. A stand for the cage costs around $40

A bath for your cockatiel will cost around $10.

Perches (some come with the cage) cost $15 each.

Cockatiel food (regular seeds) cost about $10 per packet.

And various vet bills.

All costs vary due to the store they are purchased from.

Will a cockatiel still talk to you even with a partner?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is difficult to get them to talk to begin with, they prefer to chirp and whistle, but the distraction of another bird will make it more difficult. They will pay attention to each other more than you so getting and retaining their attention will take time, but it can work, you'll just need to be patient.

How can you tame your cockatiel?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The process of taming an adult parrot involves many, many things that can't all be put on this website. One would also need to have many, many more details from you on your particular bird as well as yourself in order to provide this information. I would recommend you research the many, many websites on the web, read bird-related magazines, etc., and/or find someone close to you (such as a breeder or other knowledgeable bird owner) to help you with this. The answer to your question isn't as simple as a short paragraph!
