A percolator usually consists of five parts: the pot, lid, funnel, filter basket and filter top. Measure water into the pot and put the funnel into the bottom with the wide part down. Next, measure the coffee grounds (coarsely ground) into the filter basket and cover the basket with the filter top. A standard measure is 2 Tablespoons of grounds per cup of water, use more or less as preferred. Place the lid on the top of the pot and the pot on the stove. Turn the stove on high heat. Once the water gets hot enough, it will shoot up the tube and pour over the coffee in the filter. Most percolators have a glass knob on top of the lid which allows you to see the color of the coffee as it brews. This is how most people tell when the coffee is done. Don't keep the pot on the stove too long or you will burn the coffee. Once the water is percolating, it shouldn't take longer than five or six minutes for the coffee to brew.

There are a few different ways of removing caffeine, but often a solvent will be used to extract caffeine from the coffee bean while leaving all the other chemicals in tact. This is then repeated several times to extract even more caffeine.

Other methods involve soaking of the beans to remove caffeine, and subsequently filtering the caffeine out of the water while keeping the beans and extracted coffee solids together.

You need to fill out a prior notice form with the FDA.

I imported some from Nicaragua last year (my first time) and I believe just about everything we had to do was through the FDA. If you don't fill out forms before you go, most likely it will take weeks for your coffee to be cleared through customs.

If you are importing from central/south America most countries have serious export requirements, I would recommend finding someone in country to help you out with these.

The coffee will have to be tested at a lab even before you can submit export paperwork in many producing countries.

These help, but time is the best way to sober up. You should take advantage of a designated driver or a taxi when you recognize you are drunk.
