The class Arachnida includes animals with four pairs of legs. So mites, scorpions, false scorpions, harvestmen and vinegarones are all in the same class as spiders. Crabs are Crustacea. The only link between them is that both classes are arthropods. Sea Spiders are in a separate class altogether.
Confusion and argument has raged over the position of Horseshoe Crabs. My understanding is that they are now generally accepted as arachnids
yes bacteria grows on anything, but if you are diligent in providing them with an ocean style salt water pool the crab is fairly safe from a bacterial growth problem.
Many different kinds of crabs live in the Atlantic Ocean. Some of these are blue crabs, horse shoe crabs, rock crabs, and stone crabs.
Is it safe to eat canned crab meat without cooking it?
Absolutely! Unopened, it can be kept up to the expiration date marked on the can.
In an aquarium full of dead fish or in the dead sea :)
Does a hermit crab have to have sand when it is molting?
It depends on the size of your hermit crab. They can take as little as one week, up to several months. The average time for a smaller crab is 3-4 weeks, but can take much longer, so don't be tempted to dig them up if they are under for a very long time.
While molting under the surface, your crab is shedding his old exoskeleton. His new exoskeleton needs some time to harden, and then he will eat his old exoskeleton. He needs this as it helps him replenish the calcium and protein to help his new exoskeleton harden and to give him energy. He may surface before his new exo is fully hardened. He may appear pale, and lethargic. Do not disturb him at this time. Wait until he is acting normal, with normal energy and color, before you pick him up and play with him. He needs time to recover without being disturbed.
Make sure you provide him with plenty of protein and calcium and chitin sources after he surfaces, such as shrimp with the tail still on, dried mealworms, freeze dried shrimp (without preservatives, ethoxyquin and copper sulfate are toxic to hermit crabs). Give him a little honey or coconut (unsweetened) in his dish for some added energy.
Well they are not going to eat it but you may find out if they like it if they try to eat it but you should not let that happen because that would be very critical to it's health so your answer is it depends.
Yes, the crab uses the barnacles as protection and sometimes camoflauge
How big can horseshoe crabs get?

They like swiss cheese the best.
You may think this answer is wrong but i am a leading scientist in animal habits and food and many months of research has concluded that spiders do eat cheese!
What happens if a hermit crab gets out of its shell?
This happend to me once. I had a hermit crab for about 5 months and then its shell got too small for its body, so we had to buy a larger shell so it can go back in it. If it doesnt go back in it some how dehydrates.

What bait would you use to catch crabs?
Literally anything edible ! Crabs are scavengers - usually found 'cleaning up' dead carcases of fish and other sea creatures on the sea floor. They detect the decaying fish etc in the water.
How can you tell apart from a female crab and a male one and can you show pictures?
If you tip your hermit crab almost upside down, they will come out of their shell a little bit. If the hermit crab is a female, then they will have two little dots on each side of their insides, used for laying the eggs of the hermit crabs. If it is a male you will not find these dots.
What is the difference between soft shell and hard shell crabs?
Soft shell crabs are soft and are eaten with the entire crab. Soft shell crabs are actually hard shell crabs that have shed their shells to allow for growth. Shells do not grow with the crab. Crabs retain a soft shell when they shed their hard shells; then that soft shells begins to harden-up as the crab grows.
What do you call small hermit crabs?
It depends on where you find them. Are they in the rocks or tidepools. They are just small crabs waiting to become big crabs like you find in the ocean. Otherwise, are they in the sand, they are actually called sandcrabs. Sandcrabs are usually grey or silver in color with many legs and look kind of like "rolly pollys". You can dig for them each time a wave goes back out to the ocean. The crabs in the rocks, or the tiny, tiny ones you see on the sand are just little crabs that have hatched and are waiting to become big crabs before they go out to the ocean.
About 22 grams is available in a crab. The crab meat is really a good source of proteins.
How do you say bacon in French?
The true French word for bacon is lard (masc., "lahr"), but the type of bacon that Americans and English commonly eat for breakfast isn't very common at all in France. So you will also often find the English word in French contexts, which they give a sort of hybrid pronunciation: "beh-ee-koh[n]" (with the typical French "on" nasal vowel at the end).
Are sand crabs bottom feeders?
Yes, they go round on the sea floor and eat dead fish and any other flotsom that floats their way, Bottom Feeders :)
