Deacons

In the Christian faiths there are individuals that have been called to serve the church, but do not move into full ordination. This choice may be made due to not having a desire to complete formal education requirements, or a desire to serve in specific missions. These individuals apply to the church for the designation and are subject to the restrictions of clergy in many respects.

Can a deacon be removed by members of the church?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Here is what the Scripture says about a deacon: qualifications for a deacon's character are clearly outlined as the person must be blameless, the husband of one wife, a good household manager, respectable, honest, not addicted to alcohol and not greedy. According to the Word, the office of deacon is an honor and a blessing. "For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus" (see 1 Timothy 3: 8-13).

Considering the above, if the 'deacon' is not matching said qualifications, this is grounds for their removal. Basically, its like any job/position in life but Church positions gain better standings in Christ.

What are the job responsibilities of deacons?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The responsibilities of a Deacon Board is to help the Pastor with his/her needs. They will usually need to do prayer in the services at church, and help with Communion. The Deacon Board has a lot of responsibility and the Pastor is usually very grateful that he has people to help him.

The word deacon means servant, the original deacons, of the early church, helping with the needs of widows. See Acts 6:1-7.

What are duties of deacons' wife in a baptist church?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A Deacon's wife role in the church is light in comparison to her husband's role. The women do participate in Communion and Baptism. It is the women who set up the trays with the grape juice and crackers. Maintain the robe during baptism etc. A deacon's wife is supposed to encourage their husbands by keeping them lifted in prayer, and help them with their duties. As women, we have to be spiritually equipped to minister and pray for others. There are some things that a deacon may have the wife do, such as minister to other women. Basically, be one who encourages others to grow in the Word of God. Sometimes God may call on you to enter a spiritual mother role with a young lady, or you may need to physically step in and give a helping hand. But mainly, be in constant prayer of your husband because you are his "help mate". Stay in constant fellowship with other wives and learn from each other. Be a mentor to someone so that they can become spiritually mature and teach others. (Titus 2:3-5)

Are deacons called or chosen?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I think they are elected. 1) Transitional Deacons, those men studying for the Priesthood are ordained to the "Major Order" (cleric) of diaconate. It is at this point that the promise of celibacy is received by the diocesan bishop or his representative. 2) Permanent Deacons, A man must be at least 35 years old, and have been active in parish life for a minimum of 5 years. (Most likely in the roles of Reader, and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.) These men are recommended by members of the parish and sponsored by the Parish Priest. They then enroll in a program which includes formation, and a full course of study (which lasts approximately 4-5 years.) If married, their wives are interviewed, the role of a "permanent" Deacon is explained, and she must agree to her husband's application, and attend a series of retreats, and days of formation.

[ Should the applicant not be married at the time of Ordination to the Diaconate, he must promises to live a celibate life. If the man is married, he continues to live a normal married life. If not retired, he continues to follow his career. Should his wife pre-decease him, he is obliged to live a celbate life.]

What is the duties of a junior deacon in the church?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

We have what is called a Deacon in training. These men are set aside for one year and observed by the pastor, the deacon body and the church body. During this time the person is instructed in the responsibilities and duties of a deacon. After one year a decision is made to weather the person is qualified to be a deacon, if yes then they are ordained. During the ordination a body of pastors and deacons question the person and make the decision.

Are deacons called and appointed?

No.

The bishop is the one who validly confers the Sacrament of Holy Orders. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

1576 Since the sacrament of Holy Orders is the sacrament of the apostolic ministry, it is for the bishops as the successors of the apostles to hand on the "gift of the Spirit," the "apostolic line." Validly ordained bishops, i.e., those who are in the line of apostolic succession, validly confer the three degrees of the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Do married RC deacon take a vow of celibacy?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The definition of "celibate" is "not married."

You probably are asking if a married deacon needs to be chaste; that is, not having sexual relations.

To deacon produce is to bury the soft, spotted, or otherwise unappealing produce in the bottom of the basket, and the pretty stuff on top.

To deacon a calf is to whop a newborn dairy male on the head, killing it, because to price of veal is too low to make raising it profitable, and the calf's genetics make it an unlikely candidate for a champion bull.

Not exactly a paragon of virtue is the typical deacon. Most of them, however, do not engage in sex with a married woman if her husband is watching with a shotgun in his arms.

Seven deacons of rome?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Deacons were the primary assistants to the bishop. The diocese was divided into (at first) seven diakoniae or deaconries. Each was headed by a senior deacon, with the assistance of a junior deacon (or subdeacon). These were responsible for the adminsitration of the Church's resources in that district, especially but not exclusively for the care of the poor and vulnerable.

These were eventually expanded to 14 districts, and then expanded again. The ecclesial structure of a deanery (also called a vicariate or a prefecture) derives from these early diakoniae.

Because of their experenice with the administration of the diocesan church, especially compared to presbyters who only advised the bishop and lead small house churches/tituli (early parishes), it was more likely that the bishop would be elected from among the deacons than among the presbyterate in the first millennium.

Does the deacon have to be married?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In the Catholic Church, once a man has received ordination of the diaconate, he cannot marry. However, if a man is already married, he can then become a deacon (this is known as being part of the permanent diaconate, as opposed to the transitional diaconate, which is for men who intend to become priests). Should a permanent deacon's wife pass away, he is not free to marry again.
