Decade - 1940s

The world war came to an end in between late April and early May 1945.

One German sub fumbled and couldn't properly sink itself, and ended up getting caught, and brought to the US east coast in WWII.

Six rounds.

It started August 25, 1940, when a lost German pilot accidentally bombed central London. The British sent a retaliatory bombing strike to Berlin the next night. Hitler was incensed and issued orders to launch a merciless bombing campaign against London. On September 7, the London Blitz began. The fragile diplomatic tent protecting citizens collapsed, and both the Allies and Axis began to attack and terrorize each other's citizens.

Londoners were treated to almost nightly bombing raids by Luftwaffe Heinkel aircraft. The Germans were aided in their targeting with early radar guidance systems, named X-Gerate and Knickebein. But compared to the Allied bombings of Germany later in the war, these were small excursions because of the limited carrying capacities of the airplanes. On an average night, 200 German bombers would attack, dropping about 300 tons of bombs. Forty thousand British were killed and many historic buildings and cathedrals destroyed. Faulty intelligence told Luftwaffe planners that the citizens of Britain were feeling the pressure of the attacks and repeated German bombing would soon lead to victory.

Women's History Month is celebrated during the month of March. Women in the past have shown great effort and strength and we should all admire those who contributed to the freedom of women. In the past the women's job was to make their husbands lives easier. They stayed home, they cooked, cleaned, and took care of the children. When their husband came home it was their job to keep the kids quiet to give the man peace to rest from his day at work. Quote: "Whereas American women have been leaders, no only in securing their own rights of suffrage and equal opportunity, but also in the abolitionist movement, the emancipation movement, the civil rights movement, and other movements, especially the peace movement, which created a more fair and just society for all; and whereas despite these contributions, the role of American women in history has been consistently overlooked and undervalued, in the literature, teaching and study of American history: Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that March is designated as "Women's History Month." The President is authorized and requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe this month with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities."

Bombers are ideally dated by year of Intoduction- Bomber, type 52 did not come out until the year l952. No B-52"s were thus, used in World War II or Korea as they type was too experimental in Korean war period. they were used by SAC and the successor Bomber command.

All US battleships survived the war except for: 1. USS Oklahoma (sunk under tow to California) 2. USS Utah (converted training anti-aircraft ship-remains resting on the bottom of Pearl Harbor). 3. USS Arizona-still resting on the bottom of Pearl Harbor. The IJN battleship Nagato survived the war, but was sunk during the testing of the Atom Bomb in '46 (Operation Crossroads)...along with the USS Pennsylvania; USS Nevada; USS New York; USS Arkansa. Penn, Nevada, New York were highly radioactive after the bombs went off and were sunk at sea for target practice (a navy tradition-considered a "Viking Funeral" by some). Arkansas, however practically disintegrated due to her closeness to the atomic device. Nagato can be dove on by scuba divers in Bikini Lagoon. Of Britains KGV (King George V) battleships, four of them survived the war, only HMS Prince of Wales was lost; sunk by Japanese torpedo bombers three days after Pearl Harbor in 1941.
