Way to improve traffic condition in dehradun?

The following administrative and management points are suggested.1. Public Transport. It plies haphazardly in the city with utter disregard to traffic discipline stopping any where on their rout, racing with each other to pick up commuters and stopping or turning with out giving proper signals. Improvement can be made by marking/making designated stops on the city roads (some with shelters), spaced at least 500 meters apart. This should be done for Buses as well as 'vikrams'.

Alternate stands be marked distinctly as for odd and even registration number of the vehicle. Or the route numbers be prominently marked on the transport with + or- signs to stop on stands with these signs only. It would be also healthy and considerate for the commuters to walk up to a stand and wait in proper queues to board the transport. Traffic police may over see this by having CCTV located at strategic points. Control rooms too located covering certain blocks .

2. Shopping and Commercial Complexes. In the name of 'free enterprise' we tend to open shops and commercial ventures any where in strictly residential colonies/planned area. Such enterprise may prove a matter of convenience to some bu mostly it causes nodal points to become a parking hazard in narrow stretches, source of garbage, spots to attract unruly ruffians and an unplanned burden on the services provided in that locality for the residents. These services are water, electricity sewage and roads. The MDDA and MUNICIPALITY should be tasked and authorised to stop such misuse or conversion of residential buildings. The Subhash

road from CMI crossing to parade ground and the Dharampur

bypass road is an example. Any shop, hand cart (Rehdi)

and commercial place must be licensed by the Municipality ( regular tax must be levied on these). The MDDA must plan and execute for each residential locality concentrated complex for such purposes.

3. School Timings. The starting and closing timings of schools ,more than one , in a locality must be staggered at least by 20 minutes ( half a period).

4.Driving and Parking. A blaring indiscipline on the part of citizens is to drive in the wrong direction on a one way street and also parking in no-parking

zone , even parking on the wrong side facing the wrong direction. Such traffic offences must be strictly and promptly punished by challans

, entering in the licence book or stowing away of vehicles.
