Also known as the Asian wild dog, the dhole (Cuon alpinus) is a large carnivore found in the tropical, temperate and montane forests of South and Southeast Asia, usually living in extended family units of up to 25 individuals. The dhole is characterized by a tawny or red coat, a darker, bushy tail, round ears and short legs. Zoos are useful to scientists as they get to study the behavior, feelings, expressions, etc. Scientists can monitor animals in an controlled environment.
