Now, fluid loss will look like weight loss if you step on a scale. But it's not a sustainable loss. As soon as you're able to keep stuff in and has had something to drink, your weight will bounce right back to where it was before you got diarrhea.

I have had 12 inches removed from my colon and I have diarrhea after drinking Ensure.

I asked my Gastro doctor and he mumbled something about possible milk allergy (there is still milk protein in Ensure.)

But I have a hard time with his answer because I believe that I can have things like Coffee Mate with out the same problems.

I would recommend against that. Caffeine is a laxative, so it would probably just worsen your diarrhea. If the coffee is caffeine free, it wouldn't do much harm, but it wouldn't do any good either. So, lay off the coffee while you have diarrhea!

Whether or not it is good to eat meat while experiencing diarrhea depends upon what caused it. If you have diarrhea because of a stomach upset, it is probably wise to eat dry, bland foods and increase your intake of water for at least 24 hours.

I'm not immunologist but when an antigen is in the small gi, your body activates complement. This then activates secretory cells to act and alot of fluid from you body goes to try and flush out the bad bacteria. Why would it be red hot though? Is it radioactive?

If you mean BOTH vomiting and diarrohea (at separate ends of course) the vet would recommend starving the animal for 24 hours of all solid food but allowing free access to fresh, clean water. After that if symptoms subside the animal can be fed a small bland meal, such as boiled chicken or boiled fish & rice and see how it goes. However if any blood is passed from either end or the animal is in obvious distress, do contact the vet immediately

This can happen for a variety of reasons. * You've eaten a lot of beta carotene (one of the vitamins found in carrots) and been doing so for a while. This can turn you and your feces orange. * You've eaten something with a lot of orange food coloring. * You've contracted some relatively harmless bacteria that has the effect of changing the color of your feces, but apparanly presents no other symptoms (I'd leave this alone unless other symptoms develop). * If you've recently had a CT, MRI, or Nuclear Meds study, some of the dyes and contrasts will turn your poop some amazing colors. If so, call the office and confirm. Harmless but scary looking. Those were the nice, easy, benevolent reasons and, if you're in good health, you'll find your answer there. However: * If you're an alcoholic with liver damage, Hepatitis, or any of these three conditions, your liver damage level is increasing, and you're excreting more bilirubin -- a yellow bile salt that normally occurs in far lower concetrations. Signs of excess bilirubin as a result of hepatic insult are overall itching, ascites (enlargement of the stomach as it fills with water -- can be osculated to confirm), jaundice, etc. If this is the case, you'll need to discuss this change with your doctor soon -- no need to go to an ER for this. * If you're on chemotherapy for any reason, some of the toxins (notablye cytotoxin) will change the color of your stool. Discuss over the phone with your oncologist/immuneologist. * If an unusual smell is associated with this color change, or other symptoms like diarrhea set in, or especially if you spike a hihgh fever (100F+), either see your doctor or go to an ER, depending on the severity of the symptoms.
