What can't you eat when you have diarrhea?

Keep off fruit and squashy vegetables, most importantly. Also avoid fruit juices, spicy food such as curry, and go easy on relishes and sauces. Also don't drink alcohol, and steer clear of sweet desserts with a lot of custard, syrup or cream. The best foods for diahorrea sufferers are those that are high in starch- potatoes, rice, pasta, and most root crops (though not onions). Bran flakes, rye bread and lean meat are also helpful.

Does diarrhea make you lose weight?

Kinda-sorta, but not really.

With diarrhea, you're losing fluids,(water). You can easily get a bit dehydrated.

Now, fluid loss will look like weight loss if you step on a scale. But it's not a sustainable loss. As soon as you're able to keep stuff in and has had something to drink, your weight will bounce right back to where it was before you got diarrhea.

If you slept when it was cold is it one of the causes of diarrhea?

The vagus nerve affects heart rate, gastrointestinal peristalsis, sweating, muscle movements in the mouth, (including speech and keeping the larynx open for breathing. Stimulation of the vagus nerve can send more blood to the organs and away from the extremities, which explains why your limbs and skin may feel colder than usual. The nerve is often stimulated when the rectum is full, or during straining to defecate. The vagus nerve stimulation is also one reason many people have heart attacks while straining to defecate.

Can protein supplements cause diarrhea?

Yes

They often cause gas build up during digestion which in turn may lead to diarrhea from the gas pushing out liquids faster than normal

The worst part is that it can actually lead to constipation as well

If a large amount of the liquid is pushed out too quickly along with the gas, the remainder may end up dry and bulky

This can lead to cycles of diarrhea, followed by constipation, followed by diarrhea, and so on

To prevent this, supplements should not be the primary source of food intake. Scale back on their use until you find a balance of solid foods along with supplements that your body can handle, everyone's tolerance level is going to be different

Also, if you do find yourself with diarrhea be sure to include extra hydration (mostly pure water or mineral water) in your intake to help prevent constipation being the next stage

Can you eat pasta when you have diarrhea?

Of course. Fruit salad is full of fiber, which is good for diarrhea. Some people think that fiber loosens stool, but actually it just balances it out. So it can help constipation and diarrhea. Plus, fruits contain lots of liquid, so it can help with dehydration, which is a big issue associated with diarrhea. Anyway, feel free to eat that fruit salad.

I would recommend against that. Caffeine is a laxative, so it would probably just worsen your diarrhea. If the coffee is caffeine free, it wouldn't do much harm, but it wouldn't do any good either. So, lay off the coffee while you have diarrhea!

Foods to heal diarrhea and throw up?

If you mean BOTH vomiting and diarrohea (at separate ends of course) the vet would recommend starving the animal for 24 hours of all solid food but allowing free access to fresh, clean water. After that if symptoms subside the animal can be fed a small bland meal, such as boiled chicken or boiled fish & rice and see how it goes. However if any blood is passed from either end or the animal is in obvious distress, do contact the vet immediately

What happens when your diarrhea is orange?

This can happen for a variety of reasons. * You've eaten a lot of beta carotene (one of the vitamins found in carrots) and been doing so for a while. This can turn you and your feces orange. * You've eaten something with a lot of orange food coloring. * You've contracted some relatively harmless bacteria that has the effect of changing the color of your feces, but apparanly presents no other symptoms (I'd leave this alone unless other symptoms develop). * If you've recently had a CT, MRI, or Nuclear Meds study, some of the dyes and contrasts will turn your poop some amazing colors. If so, call the office and confirm. Harmless but scary looking. Those were the nice, easy, benevolent reasons and, if you're in good health, you'll find your answer there. However: * If you're an alcoholic with liver damage, Hepatitis, or any of these three conditions, your liver damage level is increasing, and you're excreting more bilirubin -- a yellow bile salt that normally occurs in far lower concetrations. Signs of excess bilirubin as a result of hepatic insult are overall itching, ascites (enlargement of the stomach as it fills with water -- can be osculated to confirm), jaundice, etc. If this is the case, you'll need to discuss this change with your doctor soon -- no need to go to an ER for this. * If you're on chemotherapy for any reason, some of the toxins (notablye cytotoxin) will change the color of your stool. Discuss over the phone with your oncologist/immuneologist. * If an unusual smell is associated with this color change, or other symptoms like diarrhea set in, or especially if you spike a hihgh fever (100F+), either see your doctor or go to an ER, depending on the severity of the symptoms. If none of these symptomological patterns fit you, talk to a doc soon -- it's a new one.

What do you do when a calf has diarrhea?

To some degree the answer depends upon the age of the calf and the severity of the diarrhea. In a neonatal calf with severe diarrhea, treatment needs to start immediately to prevent death within 48 hours; in a heavy calf with mild diarrhea, you can wait to see if intervention is needed.

Overall, diarrhea treatment in calves is symptomatic and reactionary - supplemental liquids, either oral or IV, to replace lost water volume; supplemental nutrition; extra protection from the wind and cold by bringing the calf into a shelter or a barn or building up the bedding. In rare occasions veterinarians may use antibiotics to help shorten the course of infection, but this is not typical - most bacterial diarrheas will resolve on their own and sometimes administering antibiotics to treat diarrhea makes the situation worse.

What does diarrhea look like?

Dehydration is the most visible sign of diarrhea (asides from frequent trips to the washroom), as diarrhea impedes the ability of the stomach and intestines to take in water resulting in a shortage of water.

A simple bit of sugar and salt water should temporarily solve the dehydration.
