Why is diarrhea like a liquid?

Diarrhea dehydrates the body - in extreme cases to the point of death - so liquid is very important in managing this.

Why does antibiotic cause diarrhea?

There are many forms of healthy bacteria living in the human stomach to aid with digestion. When you take antibiotics you kill both the good and bad bacteria, leaving your diggestive system without the bacteria it needs to function. Take a pro-biotic formula following every antibiotic in order to restore the natural levels of the healthy bacteria.

Should you still eat when got diarrhea?

* Mix a teaspoon of vinegar and a teaspoon of honey in a glass of water half an hour before each meal. * Boil pomegranate peel, cool and drink half a cup 2 times a day (can add sugar). * Grind half an apple and drink the juice, a little every time. * Eat: Rice, toasted bread with no spread, bananas and drink a lot of water. * Herbal remedy for diarrhea: blanch mango leaves and drink to help with the diarrhea. * Squeeze one lemon; add 1 spoon of milk and drink. * Blanch guava leaves and drink to help with the diarrhea. * Make tea out of coriander leaves. * Drink chamomile tea to relieve the diarrhea and pain. * Drink carrot soup. * Drink peppermint tea. * Home remedy for diarrhea: drink wormwood tea to treat stomach trouble. * Squeeze pomegranate and drink. * Mix and mash: corn, garlic and potatoes, then eat. * Blanch 1-2 teaspoons of oregano in water for 10 minutes and drink. * To stop the diarrhea, eat boiled sweet potatoes.
Anything light. I used to be given scrabbled eggs and toast - that worked.

Stay off anything fatty or products that can't easily be digested.

Most important - drink lots of fluids - mainly water.

Is diarrhoea is communicable or noncommunicable disease?

It depends on what the diarrhea is from. The act of Diarhea itself is not communicable, but rather a response to something in your body which may be communicable. For instance, bacteria and virus can cause diarhea and many of these, especially Salmonella, are extremely transmittable if someone else comes into contact with the stools.

However, some people have chronic or frequent diarhea as a result of processes within their own body, such as damaged stomache tissue or a genetic allergy to certain foods. This kind of diarhea cannot be passed on to another human via contact.

How do you get instant diarrhea?

This is a perfectly reasonable question for people who, like me, suffer from occasional constipation. I find that a fleet enema usually works pretty well, and taking some metamucil is always a good idea to build up bulk in one's stool.

As far as inducing full-on diarrhea...for me, extra-spicy Indian food has a reasonable chance of working...but that's just me.

What is another common name for diarrhea?

Dysentery; "the runs"; food poisoning; Montezuma's Revenge.

Is diarrhea normal during pregnancy?

How do you know the day you conceived? That's nearly impossible to know. But one probably has nothing to do with the other.

Only if you drank beer the night before.

You can know the day you You can know the day you conceived. I do. I went to the fertility Doc and he told me that night was the night. To have intercourse, I was ovulating. I have been trying to have a baby for 11 years. I would say he hit it right on the nose.

Why is it that about 20 minutes after you eat certain foods you get diarrhea?

When you starve yourself but then start eating again and you get diarrhea, it could be indicative of a digestive disorder. If you refrained from eating while ill and when you start eating again food passes right through you, it is possible that the bug has not left your body.

How could a person reduce the effect of diarrhea on the body?

By drinking fluids with electrolytes to prevent becoming dehydrated. You can also use medicines to counter diarrhea, such as Kaopectate or Immodium. But the important thing is to prevent dehydration.

What food stops people feeling sick?

If you have a tummy ache then suck on a peppermint- it always helps sooth the stomach like gaviscon does. if you have cramps, zantac is a reccomended tablet to get. this message is coming from a young girl with IBS. hopefully this helped

Will potassium give you diarrhea?

I believe it is. I have experienced watery diarrhea and tension headache when I took Potassium pills. Even 1/4 of a 250 mg pill can cause multiple diarrhea for me for up to 3 days. I take 99 mg of potassium gluconate twice a day.I have done this for years. It controls water retention and lowers my blood presure. I have never had diarrhea from it. But if I take potassium citrate I will have terrible gas. Answer: Although I've not experienced diarrhea myself, I believe diarreah could be a side-effect of potassium supplements or anything else horrible tasting that a person could eat or drink. I believe that's one reason why humans are equipped with a sense of taste, to protect the stomach from horrible-tasting things. 250 mg. potassium tablets are not available where I live, so I've been eating 100mg. tablets daily. If I eat a 100mg. potassium tablet, or any other kind of horrible tasting tablet, even after a meal, I must crush it, first of all, because my throat is narrow and not capable of swallowing anything hard that's approx. pea-sized or bigger. WARNING: DO NOT crush any tablets without verifying from the manufacturer that they can be crushed. If you crush time release tablets you can release too much of the potassium at a time which can cause serious reactions and in rare cases be fatal. If a tablet has a score mark, it may not be crushed, just cut at the score. When in doubt check with a pharmacist.

I bought a handy pill-crusher that means without it, I'd probably be deficient of several nutrients. I put my crushed tablet on a spoon and put it in my mouth. Then I put one or two teaspoons of something good-tasting or sweet in my mouth, such as white sugar or my new favorite, strawberry jam. I mix the crushed pill with sugar or jam, etc. in my mouth and then swallow it a little at a time, to make sure it's sweet enough. By taking the time to make sure the mixture tastes reasonably good, my stomach does not react badly. You may be able to fool your sense of taste, by quickly swallowing, but will it agree with your stomach?

What home remedy is the best to stop human diarrhea?

Diarrhea certainly isnt fun! Foods that will help are bannanas, yogurt, and cheese. Medecine works better though. Some good medecine is Pepto, Maalox, TUMS, and anti- diarrea. (of course!) If none of this works you should probally go to the doctor because this may be an allerjic reaction or stomach virus.

Why do I keep having Diarrhea?

It could be from something as simple as a change in diet or as serious as parvovirus. If your puppy has any other symptoms or has diarrhea for more than 24 hours it's time to consult your veterinarian.

How do you control diarrhea?

You can either wait it out until everything is out of your system or you can take a laxative like milk of magnesia, it helps diarrhea.
Diarrhea is one of the body's responses to an irritation or inflammation of the lower gastrointestinal tract. It is characterized by frequent loose, non-formed or liquid stool, and is often accompanied by abdominal discomfort, cramping and nausea.

Most diarrhea will resolve on it's own, or with the help of over-the-counter preparations such as Bismuth Salts (Pepto Bismol) or Loperamide (Imodium USP). Always follow manufacturer dosage recommendations.

Patients with diarrhea should be monitored for signs of dehydration and hypovolemic or metabolic shock. Such signs include poor skin turgor (skin does not bounce back when pinched, but stays "tented" for a period of time), sunken or dark circled eyes, difficulty breathing, stupor or confusion, fainting, low blood pressure, rapid heart rate. Anyone displaying such signs should be taken to a doctor or emergency room quickly. Children can generally compensate for longer, but once they show these signs, they are very sick and need immediate medical intervention.

Vomiting in combination with diarrhea should be treated fairly quickly because it can result in rapid metabolic changes or dehydration.
Normally, diarrhea will stop by itself, unless there is a continuing chronic cause. Diarrhea from food, allergies or intolerances, or colds is not uncommon, and the treatment is to drink plenty of fluids (water is the best) and avoid eating anything that might further irritate the digestive system (spicy foods, hard-to-digest foods, such as a lot of meat).

Consult a medical professional for diarrhea that continues past a day or two, or recurs frequently. This can be a symptom of a serious condition.

Over-the-counter medications are available that can alleviate diarrhea, but these should only be used for a single occurrence, and at the recommended dosage. These can cause harm themselves if used frequently. Effective medicines for treating diarrhea are Lopermide (Immodium) and Pink Bismuth (Pepto-Bismol).

One of the dangers with this condition is dehydration, so it is important to consistently try to keep water coming in. Drink fluids as much as will keep you comfortable.

If the diarrhea contains blood, see your health care provider immediately as this can be a serious condition that cannot be self-treated. Also see the provider if lethargic, when the skin does not spring back when pinched (a sign of dehydration), fever is also present - especially fever with rash or if symptoms stop and then restart.
drink plenty of fluids and don't eat solid foods for a while. go to your local chemist and get some Imodium, that's the best solution.

What causes sudden diarrhea in infants?

Does chocolate cause diarrhea?

According to a research, the fat from chocolate acts in the stomach to retard both the secretion of gastric juice and the motor functions, i. e., the emptying of the stomach, so chocolate cannot be taken in large quantities.

What is the cause of diarrhea?

Answer
Mucus may lighten the color of stool, but it will never turn it white.
You very likely have a liver blockage. A substance called urobilinogen gives stool its dark color. Urobilinogen is a product of bilirubin degradation. Bilirubin is a breakdown product of red blood cells, which is degraded in the liver. If stools are white or clay colored, you probably have a blockage.
Go to the doctor immediately!

The above user was only partially right there are several reasons one might get white stool.

Causes of White Bowel Movement
When less than normal or no bile is excreted from the liver into the bowel (cholestasis), excreted stool will be pale, clay, gray, or white. Someone can describe it as a lightcolor, but this is not bright yellow bowel movement, and also not mucus in the bowel movement that is jelly-like and translucent. Main causes of white bowel movement are:
  • Obstruction of the biliary duct (due to gallstones, inflammation, fibrosis, cancer, pressure from outside (pancreatic cancer or cyst, abdominal tumor like fibroma) - appears with cramping pains in the right upper abdomen
  • Obstruction of outflow of the bile from the liver due to liver disease (viral hepatitis, fatty liver, alcohol liver disease, cirrhosis, hemochromatosis, or rarely tuberculosis, spread of cancer into the liver (liver metastases) - may appear with fullness or pain in upper right abdomen, jaundice, nausea, or vomiting
White Diarrhea
Above reasons (obstruction of bile flow), or lack of pancreatic enzyme lipase that digests fats prevents fat absorption in the small intestine. Unabsorbed fats will reach the colon and irritate it thus causing diarrhea. Loose, white, sticky, greasy, foamy, floating, smelly stool appearing several hours after a fatty meal is called steatorrhea. Main causes of white diarrhea are:
  • Acute or chronic pancreatitis (low appetite, pain in middle or left upper abdomen, nausea)
  • Pancreatic cancer (low appetite, loosing weight)
  • Liver or biliary duct disease
  • Severe inflammation of small intestine (Crohn's disease, celiac disease, tuberculosis, severe food poisoning)
  • Candida overgrowth in large intestine (in persons with lowered immunity, like in AIDS or after chemotherapy)
Other Causes of White Stool
White stool may appear after:
  • Barium enema
  • Antacids
White Specs in the Stool…
..may represent:
  • undigested food like rice or seeds
  • unabsorbed drugs
  • parasite eggs
  • clumps of fungi (Candida albicans) in heavy disease like AIDS, or in immunosuppression from chemotherapy or radiation therapy…
Diagnosis
Stool fat test may reveal fats in the stool.
Blood tests:
  • White blood cells are elevated in pancreatitis, bowel inflammation
  • Pancreatic enzymes (lipase) in the blood may be elevated (pancreatic disease)
  • Liver enzymes in the blood may be elevated (liver, biliary duct disease)

Ultrasound of abdomen may reveal gallstones in gallbladder, or rarely in biliary duct, swollen pancreas (in pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer or cyst), or abdominal tumor. Treatment
Original disease has to be treated.
In white diarrhea low-fat diet has to be introduced.

Will amoxicillin help diarrhea?

This can be one of the side effects of taking any antibiotic.

As well as killing the bad bacteria that you are taking the penicillin for, it also kills off some of the natural (good) bacteria that live in your intestines. This upsets the balance of flora (the things that live in your intestines) and may cause you to have diarrhea for a time. Make sure you tell your doctor what has happened so that he/she is aware of this and can intervene if required, but you should get over this once you stop taking the penicillin....

Oh ! and by the way make sure you take ALL the penicillin you were given by the doctor (unless the doctor tells you not to if he/she changes your treatment), failure to complete the treatment prescribed allows bacteria to become resistant to the penicillin and worse, may not cure you properly.

Ive had diarrhea for 3 weeks now what is it?

Diarrhea is either be acute or chronic. Acute diarrhea is timely having less than 3 weeks of it. It can also be in mild stage, moderate and severe. It has an effect in the patient as it going through until it reach into severe and usually your body reacts severe also. Chronic is a more than 3weeks case. In this stage, patient maybe having severe signs of dehydration as the definite effect of this.

As you reach this 3 weeks of having diarrhea, your body may become susceptible to infections and further effects that a chronic brings. You may experience Light headedness, weakness, less frequent urination as it leads to dehydration which in turn can cause blood pressure to drop down, can cause fainting and arrhythmia also. Other form of effect would be rapid breathing and body malaise. Dehydration hits you, as you feel those symptoms and fluid and electrolyte replacement should be started, it really a need.

What is a good medicine for diarrhea?

It is best to take none and just drink a lot of water. If it persists, take Imodium, but if it gets real bad, go see a doctor. Usually diarrhea if from something bad being in your system and your digestive system is trying to eliminate it.

What types of fruit are good for you after diarrhea?

1. Bananas

Bland and easily digested, bananas are a good choice to settle an upset digestive system. The high level of potassium in bananas helps to replace electrolytes that may be lost by severe bouts of diarrhea. Bananas are also rich in pectin, a soluble fiber that helps to absorb liquid in the intestines and thus move stool along smoothly. Bananas also contain a good amount of inulin, another soluble fiber. Inulin is a prebiotic - a substance that promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria (probiotics) in the intestinal system.

2. White Rice and Mashed Potatoes

Talk about comfort food! Due to their low-fiber content, these starches are easily digested way up high in the GI tract. Eat your rice and potatoes plain; butter has a high fat content which could be irritating to your system and contribute to intestinal cramping.

3. Applesauce

Like bananas, apples are a good source of pectin. However, the high fiber in raw apples makes them too rough for a dicey intestinal system. Cooking the apples makes them easier on your system to digest, thus allowing you to benefit from the pectin, sugar and other nutrients that lie within.

4. White Toast and Crackers

When your intestines are acting normally, it is important to eat whole grain products. When you are experiencing acute diarrhea, it is better to turn to processed wheat foods. The removal of the outer husk of the grains in these foods results in easier digestion. As an added bonus, the salt (sodium) in crackers will be beneficial in terms of restoring the electrolyte balance.

5. Yogurt

It is generally recommended that dairy products should be avoided during acute diarrhea episodes. Yogurt is a major exception to this rule. Look for yogurt that contains live or active cultures, or more specifically Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum. These active cultures are probiotics and they appear to help to establish a healthier balance of bacteria in the digestive tract.

6. Steamed Chicken

Due to its bland nature, steamed white meat chicken is an easily digested source of protein, thus providing a fairly safe way to get some nutrients into your body. Butter and oils are very hard on a delicate system, so avoid deep-fried or sautéed preparations.

7. Blueberries

Reportedly dried blueberries have a long history of use in Sweden as a treatment for diarrhea. Dr. Varro Tyler in his book, Herbs of Choice recommends either chewing dried blueberries or making a tea by boiling crushed dried blueberries for about ten minutes.

The helpfulness of blueberries for diarrhea appears to be due to the fact that they contain tannins which act as an astringent, contracting tissue and reducing inflammation and secretion of liquids and mucous. Blueberries also contain substances called anthocyanosides, which have antibacterial properties, as well as being a good source of antioxidants. Lastly, blueberries are another source of the soluble fiber pectin.

8. Tea

Okay, this is a drink, but talk about soothing! There is nothing like sipping on a warm cup of tea for a feeling of comfort. Two teas in particular are especially good for quieting a diarrhea episode: Peppermint and Chamomile.

  • Peppermint Tea: Peppermint has a soothing effect on the gastrointestinal system. It is thought to calm and relax the muscles along the intestinal tract, thus reducing spasms. Peppermint also seems to be effective in reducing intestinal gas.
  • Chamomile Tea: Chamomile is a flowering herb. Chamomile tea appears to be effective in reducing intestinal inflammation and calming intestinal spasms.
