There are a number of reasons why sound from one device may sound different to another. With the information given, there is no way to isolate the cause so here is some general advice on finding the reason.

First, there are numerous setting on a television that adjust the sound characteristics. Some of the settings will compensate for the limitations of the speakers built in to the television. Others may try to simulate a surround sound from the incoming sound source. Either of these may adversely affect the sound when routed through a theater system.

The sound may pass through a route into the television that limits the quality. Try different audio inputs if you can and see how the sound changes.

If the television and the DirectTV receiver use different inputs to the theater system, try swapping them to see if there is a difference. If there is, perhaps the input settings on the theater sound processor may need adjusting.

There are several other settings that might need to be checked but theay will be dependent on the specific set up you have. The best way to resolve it is to study the sound setting menus and try different settings, different sources and swap signals from one input to another. Eventually, the source of the problem will become apparent and then you are one step closer to solving it.

• If you are programming the remote to operate the receiver only, try just resetting the remote. The remotes are designed to be auto-programmed to the receivers. To reset the remote, hold Mute + Select and wait until green light flashes twice near the top of the remote. Then enter 9-8-1 on the keypad of the remote (the light should blink 4 times). This will allow the remote to work in IR mode.
• If you are wanting to use the remote in RF mode, you must go into the menu and go to IR/RF setup and follow the steps.
• If you are trying to program the remote to a TV, VCR, DVR player or other device, go into the menu. Go through the setup and select "Remote." It will ask you which device you are wanting to program. Then it will give you a list of the different TV manufacturers. Choose your TV's manf. and it will give you the codes for that TV.

Yes, but it does not create very goo picture quality at all. First, your going to want to hook up a coaxial cable to the back of the DVR where it says "Out To TV". Next, hook up the other end to your TV's "RF In". Another way, witch will give you slightly better picture quality, is to run composite cables from your DVR to your VCR. With both of these set-ups, it does not matter where each end of the cabling is hooked up, just as long as the colors match, you'll be fine. You cannot record a movie that is already on the DVR on to tape, only live TV. You also CANNOT change the channel while recording, as this will interrupt the recording process, then record whatever is on the other channel that you tuned to. and good luck!*
