Humans don't really. Dragonflies reproduce at a fast enough rate. Of course, humans have been known to trap them, but they can bite as a way to get away. Dragonflies are very helpful arthropods, and humans would have to be pretty stupid to want to hurt the insects that eat mosquitoes and flies.
Purple dragonflies do exist I have taken many photos of them they are about 3 inches long or so they are very pretty and trying to find the name of it but there aren't many that I have seen I have also seen golden ones and bright green with black banding down abdomen those are really pretty too. Dragonflies do not live for only 24 hours. Dragonflies actually live for at least several months in a larval stage in ponds, and then emerge into adulthood as dragonflies which fly around. In this adult stage, dragonflies live for anywhere between a few days to several months and prey on other flying insects and look for a mate.
Why is the dragonfly called the terror of insect world?
One reason might be that they are carnivorous predators and eat many smaller insects. The adults fly around and catch smaller insects in the air, while the larvae hunt smaller insects and other invertebrates under water. Also, many dragonflies are very large for insects. However they are completely harmless to humans and do not bite, sting or carry disease. In fact, they are good for humans because they eat harmful insects such as mosquitoes.
Bearded Dragons hunt in lots of different ways depending on the personality of the lizard and the food available. For example my Bearded Dragon will chase after the larger slower crickets but will stay still and wait for the smaller faster ones. Finally a Bearded Dragon's hunting patterns will also change based on the environment they are in e.g. a Bearded dragon that lives in a more open area with little hiding spaces might be more inclined to chase after prey compared to one who lives in a cluttered environment and will be more reserved and stealthy when hunting.
When were dragonflies discovered?
Dragon evolved from pterodactyls. When the meteor that ended the rest of dinosaurs hit the earth, the dragon ancestors then seculded themselves into deep cavernous lava caves. They lived within these lava caves for millions of years. They only started resurfacing during the middle ages in Europe. Since the cave systems in which the dragons live could not support very high populations, there were not very many at the time of surfacing. Knights then promptly eliminated the entire dragon population. It is still unknown if there are more dragons in the caves today. To answer your question, dragons were most likely first encountered by humans in the 600's in Europe. It is unknown when Asian dragons were first discovered.
