When genetic drift occurs due to a dramatic reduction in population?

When genetic drift occurs due to a dramatic reduction in population, it is called a bottleneck effect. This can lead to a loss of genetic diversity as the surviving individuals may not represent the full range of genetic variation in the original population. As a result, the population may experience inbreeding and reduced ability to adapt to environmental changes, increasing its vulnerability to extinction.

Why are many endangered species at risk due to genetic drift?

I would think of genetic drift to go hand-in hand with environmental adaptation. So, I wouldn't think it would cause endangered species. However, it also creates subspecies. For example, there is the "Northern White Rhino" and the "Southern White Rhino". The two are very similar, but considered different species due to population isolation and millennia of genetic drift. Unfortunately, there are now no known remaining Northern White Rhinos in the wild, although the southern cousins are quite numerous. The Quagga is a Zebra subspecies that outwardly has a different striping pattern from other zebras. And, apparently it is also extinct. There is a current breeding program directed at breeding quagga features into a zebra herd. Reintroducing a species such as wolves or bears might also be considered as reintroducing a similar, but not quite the same species. Introducing a non-native species, of course, could cause interbreeding with native species, or out competing of the native species. Presumably this wouldn't be a bad problem unless lethal genes would get introduced. Sometimes this can be a bit inadvertent. My parents used to have some wild white geese on their property (came over from the neighbors). It was kind of neat that their pasture became a favorite stopover for the Canadian Honkers, presumably attracted by the domestic geese. That is, until a few years later we started noticing geese with white spots stopping by.

Could you drift with your bike?

Sort of, but not really. You can certainly slide or skid, but drifting is trickier. If you're really skilled you can lean way forward over the bar until the pressure on the rear tire is little enough to allow it to spin when you pedal.

What arguments were used against Wegener's theory of continental drift?

  • Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of continental drift. His evidence included the fit of the continents, similar fossils on different continents, glacier evidence in Australia, and the alignment of mountain ranges in America and England.
  • The theory of plate tectonics followed the continental drift theory. Plate tectonics had the advantage of proposing a mechanism for the movements of the continents, and was accepted. The key piece of evidence was seafloor spreading, relating to magnetic striping near ocean ridges.
  • Plate tectonics is the theory that Earth's crust consists of seven large plates and many smaller plates shifting around on Earth. The movement of these plates creates Earth's features, such as ridges, mountains and some of the volcanoes.
  • Earth's mechanical layers are the lithosphere, asthenosphere, mesosphere and core. The hard lithosphere floats on top of the soft asthenosphere.
  • Subduction occurs at convergent boundaries. Here, ocean crust is destroyed when it is pushed under continental crust. New crust is formed at divergent boundaries, such as ocean ridges. A transform boundary is where two plates slide past each other horizontally.
  • It was originally thought that simple convection cells in the mantle caused the plate movement. Now it is thought that slab-pull is the dominant force. Other factors are slab-push and hot plumes.
  • Pangaea was the super-continent that formed about 300 million years ago, and contained all of the continents. It broke up due to heat build-up. It is thought that several super-continents have existed in Earth's past.

How can you stop drifting into your own world?

To stay grounded in the present moment and avoid drifting into your own world, try practicing mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing, grounding exercises, or focusing on your senses. Engaging in activities that require your full attention, such as exercise or creative pursuits, can also help you stay connected to reality. Additionally, seeking support from a therapist or counselor can provide strategies for managing dissociation and staying present.

Who was the first person to win a drifting race?

john smith was the first person to win a drifting race.

What are two types of genetic drift?

Founder effect- isolation of few individuals from larger population; new population forms with different gene pool.

Bottleneck effect- Drastic reduction of population size leading to a restrictive gene pool in wich the population must use to recover. Forms population with different gene pool.

What is another saying for if you get my drift?

Funny, only yesterday I was explaining the meaning of "if you get my drift" to my friend from India.

Here's what you can substitute for the phrase with more or less the same meaning:

"... if you know what I mean?"

"... see where I'm going with this?"

Think "drift" - as in which way the wind is blowing and your words are "drifting" with it.

What is antigenic drift?

The genome of viruses can mutate over time through a variety of mechanisms. Some viruses are more prone to these mutations than others. When the genome changes, this changes the proteins that are expressed by the virus, included the proteins that are present on the surface of the virus. These proteins are the antigens that are recognised by the host immune system and which trigger the immune response. Antigenic drift is when the genome of the virus mutates thus changing the antigens expressed by the virus. This means that an individual immunized against a virus may not be protected if the virus undergoes antigenic drift as the proteins present of the surface of the virus are not the same as the virus against which the individual was immunized.

Whtat ways do the fossils help support the hypothesis of continental drift?

Fossils found on separate continents that are now far apart provide evidence for continental drift. Similar fossil species found on continents that were once connected suggest that these landmasses were once united. Additionally, matching rock formations and paleoclimate evidence from fossils support the hypothesis of continental drift.

How do get you're best friend back after you have drifted apart?

Think about what caused you and your friend to drift apart. Then think of ways to fix it. If it's hurt feelings which happens in many cases, maybe you can make it right with your friend. If you are not sure why you drifted apart then talk to your friend and maybe you can find out why, it could be a misunderstanding or something too.

Call your friend or talk in person which ever you more comfortable doing, say to her/him that you've missed them and you were wondering if you could get together and see a movie or go out to dinner or even just talk to each other at first and gradually get your close relationship back again.

How can you get free mito on drift city?

Alright, there are 3 main ways of making mitos in Drift City:

Patrolling, Undercity Partying, and HUV partying.

Patrolling:

  • Patrolling involves driving through out the entire city fulfilling what is known as the instant mission. You drive into a Yellow Ringed zone just outside the appropriate Station. Patrolling usually takes about 8 - 10 minutes. The parts you get can be sold, and if you're lucky you can get a Mittron Enhancer, which sells for at least 20,000 mitos. To ensure maximum possibility of obtaining a Mittron Enhancer, you should not stop at any point in your patrol mission, and you should try not to miss and turnings by a large distance. Also, minimise head-on crashes with traffic. All these should increase your chances.

Undercity:

  • Undercity is where you have to form a party of 2 - 4 players, and head on over to; Moon Palace, Koinonia or Cras and head to the 'U' on the Map and enter the Under City. This is where you rid the Under City of infiltrators (HUBs) and HUVs, and finally a HUV boss('). To ensure a Mittron Enhancer reward, the whole Under City mission will have to be done within 30 minutes. To ensure the all members get a Mittron Enhancer, in Stage 1, each player has to take on 25 HUBs, and in Stage 3 and beyond 7 HUVs each. If you're lucky you can get an Mittron Enhancer and a Ore, which you can sell or combine to make amazing parts.

HUVing

  • Lastly, its HUV partying. Party with high level players, and you can obtain high exp and money. And if you party in Gate 3, 10 HUVs are not as rare to come by as in Gate 1 & Gate 2. One chase, with 10 HUVs can get you about 500+ EXP and 1000+ mitos for an all Level 50 party. Although, not all party members' level has to be that high. One charicter can be level 34 and the rest 65.

I also want to note that you don't have to buy every V level.

The V levels you should buy is V1, V3, V4, V6, V7, and V9. This will save you around 80,000 to 100,000 mito.

So if you follow all these steps, you should be a millionaire in no time!

What was Wegener's theory of continental drift?

Wegener theory of continental drift was that in the past the whole world was all joined together and the lands name was Pangaea meaning All lands. However, Wegener could not provide a satisfactory explanation for the force that pushes or pulls the continents apart.

In what ways do fossils help support the hypothesis of continental drift?

Fossils of the reptile Mesosaurus have been found in South America and Africa. It probably couldn't swim between the continents. Scientists theorized that this reptile lived on both continents when they were joined. All continents were once part of a large landmass, called Pangea, that broke apart 250-million years ago.
