The first Earth Hour took place in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. It was an idea developed by newspaper The Sydney Morning Herald and WWF. For that first ever Earth hour, 2.2 million homes and businesses in the Sydney area switched off their lights for the period of one hour. In one year Earth Hour grew from that one event in one city to a worldwide movement. In 2008, millions of people, businesses, governments and civic organizations in nearly 200 cities around the globe turned out for Earth Hour. In 2009, Earth Hour took place across 25 time zones in over 4,000 cities and towns, in 88 countries, and involved hundreds of millions of people.
In most parts of the world, Earth Hour 2009 took place from 8:00pm-9:00pm on the last Saturday of March. In Australia, Earth Hour was held from 8:30pm to 9:30pm.

Being a fictional character based upon a dead Bishop, an official fan e-mail address for Santa Claus is not available. However, there are many unofficial e-mail and postal mailing addresses where Santa mail may be sent.
Traditionally, Santa Claus is said to live at the north pole (where there are obviously no mail boxes). However, in Scotland, we get our kids to write letters to Santa and then have them throw them on an open fire, "so Santa can read them when he comes down the lum" (a lum being the chimney). E-mailing Santa doesn't quite have the same charm.

Hi: Earth Hour is an hour at which, every year, people and organizations around the world do something in support of saving the earth (electricity, fuels, waste, conservation, etc).
This year, it's 31 March at 8h30pm.
Christmas is on the day that Jesus was born, which was Dec. 25.
The Bible doesn't say what day or even what year Jesus was born. In about the 4th century Christians began to celebrate Jesus' birth to coincide with pagan celebrations in order to make Christianity more acceptable to pagans. When Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper he said "...this do in remembrance of me." Luke 22:19 People the world over remember Jesus on December 25, but he said to remember him at the Lord's Supper.
Alternative Theory:
Likely, it was ancient prophets (astrologers or Magi) with agreement with Germanic pagan astrologers.
Germanic pagans celebrated Yuletide for 12 days, over the winter solstice period. The winter solstice marked faith in the rebirth of the sun. Post pagan Christians celebrated the same astrological and seasonal event as witness to Christ's birth, which is analogous to the birth of sun. Much Christian/Gnostic art displays Jesus superimposed over the sun. The agreement by Germanic pagans to convert to Christianity involved celebrating Christ's mass in the ancient pagan tradition.
Note: There is a possible link between Christianity and Constantine's pre-catholic cult of Sol Invictus (Mithraism).
The agreement also marked the conversion from the lunar calendar to the solar (Julian) calendar. Julian calendars mark 25th December as the winter solstice.
Astronomical event: On 25th December, The 3 stars of Orion's belt and Sirius line up with the sunrise. Astrologically, the stars of Orion's belt can be thought to represent the 3 wise king's or magi. The star, Sirius, can also be thought to represent the star of Bethlehem.
Whether or not No one Will Know Why People Celebrate Christmas On December 25.
According to Wikipedia (see related links), the earliest record was around AD 379.
A: The earliest known references point to the mid fourth century, but could have been earlier. There is no precise start date, as Christmas was honored at different times. It became firmly set on the 25th by established tradition sometime in the early Middle Ages (after ~400AD) .
According to the official ABS website, 34.92 megawattswere saved through the power scheme of Earth Hour. Yours sincerly, Anne Onymous.
During Earth Hour, households and businesses are encouraged to turn off their lights and non-essential appliances for one hour in the evening. This includes famous landmarks which, by having their lights turned off, make a strong statement about how much energy we use every day, often unnecessarily.
The purpose of Earth Hour is to raise awareness of global issues, particularly in regard to our overuse of non-renewable resources, and resultant light and air pollution. In 2009, the third year of Earth Hour, WWF urged people around the world to VOTE EARTH and reach the target of 1 billion votes by the time world leaders for the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December 2009. At this meeting, government policies to take action against global warming were to be decided. People around the world were able to cast their vote at the official Earth Hour website (see link below).
The campaign continues: the next Earth Hour will be on 29 March 2014.
He is actually on his way there right now!! Get to bed quick!
When our Elf on the Shelf, "Pickle", makes his appearance the morning after Thanksgiving, I notice an immediate change in our son's behavior. He's usually a good kid, but everyone has their off-days, but when Pickle's around he tries extra hard to control his temper, be helpful around the house, etc. So I'd say Elf Magic Works!
Earth Hour is useful because it educates people a little about what they can do to lower their carbon footprints. This has to be a good thing, but if we want to prevent global warming, then governments have to put a price on carbon emissions.
During Earth Hour, firstly, you turn off lights for an hour. To really get into the spirit and purpose of the event, it is suggested to also turn off non-essential electrical appliances, such as electronic gadgetry, televisions, DVD recorders, computers, etc. However, remember that Earth Hour is entirely voluntary, and even the smallest change can help raise awareness and make a difference.
The point of Earth Hour is to draw attention to how much electricity we use, and do without it for one hour. The amount we save is miniscule, world-wide, but the message is more important.
Use candles if you like, but not the ones with a metallic wick. These are often made of lead and put very harmful amounts of lead into the atmosphere and lungs of those nearby. Preferably do not use the cheap candles made from paraffin, a fossil fuel. Beeswax candles would be the best. You can also purchase torches that do not use electricity or batteries, but are hand-powered, turning a handle to generate the bulb. It can store the hand-generated power for some time, so you do not have to keep turning the handle.
Limited travel except on foot or by bike is suggested also, for those who are truly serious about making a difference. While turning off a 20 W light for an hour saves 20 gm of CO2 from the power station's exhaust, this is the same amount of CO2 emitted by an SUV driving 200 ft, or a Boeing 747 travelling 9 inches.
Some ways to rhyme with the word atmosphere are
the cat was here
full of fear
that's a dear
rats are near
claps and cheer
that was the year
was that a tear
now that you're here
now that I'm here
the cat sits here
that was severe
chat to me dear
she sat so near
that was so clear
my flat is near
the flat was dear
cat was here
that was here
sat with a beer
was that a cheer
that was right here
that's my bad ear
chat in your ear
whats that in your ear
that's loud n clear
The purpose of Earth Hour is to switch off your lights for one hour to save electricity more than you ever would have. The light source most people is the use of candles. Earth hour first started in Sydney 2007. But now, in 2012, more than 135 countries will be participating.
Eight Thirty PM in every time zone in the world!
Christmas started when Baby Jesus was born on December 25th to the virgin Mary who was engaged to Joseph. I hope this helps, if not, sorry.
Pope Julius I chose December 25th as the date to celebrate the birth of Christ. The bible does not actually give the date of his birth so the church chose a date to recognize it.
Well most likely no scripts are given free without earnings. If there is,it's awesome
The next Earth Hour event will take place on March 28, 2009. Earth Hour takes place from 8:00 - 9:00 pm in their respective time zone in every city.
Earth Day is celebrated each year on April 22nd.
