Edgar Degas's wife was named Hortense Fiquet. They married in 1869.
Though Edgar Degas had two brothers and two sisters, he himself never married and he had no children of his own. No wife, no kids.
Degas was a painter and a sculptor. His tools included paints, brushes, pastels, and various scultping tools.
He began his schooling with enrollment in the Lycée Louis-le-Grand, graduating in 1853 with a baccalauréat in literature. In 1853 he registered as a copyist in the Louvre. His father, however, expected him to go to law school. Degas duly registered at the Faculty of Law of the University of Paris in November 1853, but made little effort at his studies there. In April of 1855 Degas received admission to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, where he studied drawing with Louis Lamothe.
I think he used texture and space :) hope that helps :)

There are two Degas paintings of that name.
One from 1890, now in the Orsay Museum, Paris.
The other from 1898/99, now in the Pushkin Museum, Moscow.
Degas' sculptures of hundreds of ballet dancers must be examined in pairs, or groups. Degas' relationship with Edouard Manet throughout the 1860s was seminal to Degas' approach to theatre, theatrical props, scenery and, most of all, the youngest and most callipygian dancers, first, in performance, then moreso, in repose, at more and more oblique, secretive, oblique and perhaps illicit angles.
Degas would sculpt one of his models face front, in a colloquial pose, then, more and more onward into the depth of his imagery, from further and further away from the 'consciousness', awareness, or perhaps, even permission of the model.
I don't say 'girl' in any of these referents, for I believe androgyny to be a powerful motivator in Degas' views of the loss of humanity and the development of the model as prop, scenery or even colour of what Degas believed to be the soul of performing art.
