I was prescribed vicodin and effexor together I do not recommend taking the two combined unless you know what both will do to you before hand. I took them together and I was unconcious an hour and half later I called 911 and found out that I had a severe allergic reaction to the new medication effexor my heart was racing, my anxiety had worsened I felt nausious and combining the medication did not help the situation. I was confused and disoriented and could not think clearly. I am no longer going to take the effexor. It was a very scary experience and hope people will read this and think twice before mixing presciption medications. Starting new medications can have severe consequences. I am glad to say I am alive to see another day and will continue live each day to the fullest.

Keep trying! Finding the right medication can be an extremely long and arduous process, but if you work closely with your physician/psychiatrist you will find the right balance for you. Bear in mind that new drugs are being released into the market everyday and research is ongoing. There is hope, just don't give up! I recommend keeping a journal of the medications you take, how long you were on them, how you felt and any side effects of the drug. Share this list with your doctor to help him/her rule out some things that might be very similar or possibly try some combinations of drugs. Having psychotherapy in combination with your drug treatments would likely be extremely helpful as well. A great deal can be overcome just by learning how to think about things differently and what actions you can take (such as diet and exercise) to impove your overall feeling of wellness. Good luck!

I'm not a doctor, but based on my research...unless you have some underlying condition...you won't die, you'll just wish you would. Stopping Effexor is a hard thing to do, even if you do titrate the dose. It's just the nature of that medication. I have stopped Effexor cold turkey in the past and I experienced headaches, nausea, diarrhea, disturbing dreams, night sweats, flu-like symptoms, vertigo, and extreme irritation. Other people have stopped the medication slowly and experienced the same things when they took their final dose. Others have had only mild effects after sudden discontinuance. It just depends on the person. The effects from stopping the medication do come to an end eventually. There are ways to help people who can't tolerate the discontinuance symptoms...your doctor should be able to help you. Even though it is not recommended to stop this medication cold turkey, I can understand why you would want to. Why postpone the inevitable? That's my thinking anyway. Good luck.

I've had good results taking it, though the effects do seem to fade after a period of a few years. This may just be me though because I had the same problem with Zoloft. Other than that it gave me a good few years of happiness.
