Can badgers be kept as pets in Wisconsin?
While it is legal to keep these nasty creatures as pets in the United States, it is not a good idea. They are nasty creatures that would just as soon rip your hand off as let you feed it. For the record, I have never seen a badger in Wisconsin.
How does a ferret take care their young?
The female mother ferret called a "Dam" does all the rearing of her offspring that are called "kits". She has a litter of 6-8 young (kits), 42 days after mating. The dam will start preparing her nest about two weeks before birth. The female nurses and cares for the young, the male has no role in raising the kits. The young are born blind, deaf and helpless and covered with a fine white fur, totally dependent on their mother for about three weeks. Kits weight at birth five to fifteen grams. If the female ferret feels that her kits are threatened in any way from an human or animal, she might cannibalize or eat them. She does that to come into heat again, rather that letting a predator get them. About 3 weeks of age, the kits will began to eat solid food, while continuing to nurse. Their hearing develops and eyes are opened at about 4 weeks. Kits are mature enough to be weaned at about 6 - 8 weeks and leave the mother.
At birth it is important that you do not handle the kits, and do not disturb the nest unnecessarily for at least five to seven days. Be cautious when approaching the nest, the mother is very protective of her kits and may bite you. If the Dam feels that her litter is threatened or faced with the threat that a predator will kill and eat her young, she does not surrender her litter, but will kill and eat them.
Most Dam's (mom ferret) are very good mothers and will train their babies when it's time to start eating solid food, she will drag them to the food bowl, and will litter train them as well. Kits must be socialized by humans after 27 days of age.
Baby ferrets still with the mom? They need to be in a safe secure place with nesting materials - In the UK for outdoor courts they use cubs and nesting boxes (shoe size box with a round hole for access). In the US - a mom ferret with kits need to be kept in a separate pen or cage from other ferrets.
How can you convince your parents to get you a pet ferret?
A pet turtle would be easier to convince your parents that a ferret. A ferret as a pet requires a lot of care, more than a cat or dog.
First off, you need to be sure you are ready for the responsibility of owning a turtle. If you are considering a water turtle, they can be very expensive to give them the adequate sized aquarium, proper heat and light setup and all of the accessories that go with setting up a proper tank.
You'll need a really good filtration system and you'll still need to change the water frequently. There is a lot of expense in the initial setup. Once established, however, water turtles are fun, easy to care for and do not need a lot of expense after their initial setup is done.
If you want land turtles, there is less expense but you still need the proper heat, light and tank setup.
If you've done your research and you know everything that the turtles need in order to live a healthy life, then you are ready to have the talk with your parents about the turtles.
Explain to your parents that you have done your research. Give them a run down of what you have to have to set up a proper environment for the turtle. Tell them where you will get the supplies and the turtle itself and how much it will cost.
Next, tell them you understand the responsibility involved in owning a pet turtle. Tell them what you will do to care for the turtle, how often and what help you will need.
For example, if you want your dad to build a wooden box for a land turtle, explain that you'll need help with the building of the box and initial setup but can then take care of the turtle yourself.
You must also realize that the turtles will not interact with you very much. I have land turtles that I rarely even see. They burrow down in their substrate and they don't come out much.
Water turtles are fun to watch and they do interact some. My water turtles "beg" for treats. They follow me (they swim from one end of their tank to the other) when I walk through the room and splash their water when I approach them.
Just remember, all pets deserve to be healthy and taken care of if kept in captivity. Put their health and needs first and foremost. If you can't properly care for them, don't get them as a pet.

Yes, Ferrets have spines. Haha. I think its funny you ask. They are so silly. The reason they are so flexible and can flatten there self's out, is because they are built to be skinny. So they can fit through small places. Also their spine is built a certain way which lets them be flexible as well. Hope this helped you. :)
How has the American mink adapted to its habitat?
American Minks have short legs with partially webbed feet, which make them excellent swimmers. They can be found in wooded areas and fields near streams and lakes. They do not dig burrows, but instead take over dens abandoned by other animals. Mink are semi aquatic predators able to hunt both aquatic and terrestrial prey. They can dive under water like an otter to capture fish, crayfish, and frogs. They can also capture terrestrial prey like birds, snakes, mice, voles, and rabbits. Mink are generalist predators focusing on whatever prey is most available and easily captured. These animals are mainly active at night and do not hibernate.
The mink is found in places which suit its habits throughout almost all North America, from Florida to the Arctic

Among those that do not are the stoat or ermine, the two species of mink, and the polecats or ferrets.
