Smoke detectors work in several ways.

A point to point smoke detector detects smoke when the beam projected by the transmitter is obscured in a measurable way and detected by the receiver.

A photoelectric detector sees smoke particles inside the detection chamber of the smoke detector because light inside the chamber is scattered in a measurable way.

An ionization smoke detector detects smoke because the smoke particles change the 'charge' on the detection plate inside the smoke detector.

Beeping could be caused by several things: an electronic error, a low battery, an expired sensor, nuisance smoke, or an actual fire.

NEVER ignore a beeping smoke alarm, or simply remove the batteries without installing new ones. Hundreds of people are killed each year because of disabled smoke alarms.

If there is an intermittent beep (e.g., every thirty seconds or minute), it may indicate a low battery or that the sensor is expired. If replacing the batteries does not make it stop, consider replacing the entire unit.

If nuisance smoke (or steam) sets off the smoke alarm (e.g., near a kitchen or bathroom), it should be removed and put into a different location, or replaced with a different type of sensor. False alarms have a tendency to cause people to ignore them, which can be deadly.

If there is an actual fire, the way to stop the beeping is to put the fire out (if you can do so safely) and then "air out" the room until the smoke dissipates. You should consider replacing a smoke detector if it has been involved in an actual fire, as it may be permanently contaminated and no longer as sensitive as necessary.

A thermistor would be a part of the circuit made out of either silcon or geranium.

These are semi-conducting material and have limited electrons at room temp so it has a lot of resistance not allowing much electical current to the 'buzzy thing'. but when they are heated ( by smoke) more electrons become availble and its resistance drops a lot which will increase the eletrical energy for the 'buzz' in the fire alarm

Repeater panels, also known as Annunciator panels are used to provide a visual display of the main panel. They can additionally provide limited control functions, such as acknowledge, silence, and reseting the main fire alarm panel.

so that when there is a fire in their house or something and people are unaware of it....the smoke will start the alarm and then the person will do something about it...it basically lets them know that there is a fire.

There are many types of smoke DETECTORS and self-contained smoke ALARMS.

Some smoke detectors use ionizing radiation; others use photo-electric sensors. More sophisticated sensors use chemical reactions to detect specific types of smoke or to measure specific chemical composition and concentration of smoke.

Photo-electric sensors are said to be more sensitive to smoldering fires (large particles) than ionizing detectors, meaning you may get an earlier warning from photo-electric.

Yes, many jurisdictions require smoke alarms on each level, and perhaps in each bedroom area of a home. Other places only require them in rental homes or where there is some other reason the home may be subject to fire inspections.

In addition to smoke alarms, modern codes require carbon monoxide detectors in approximately the same locations as smoke alarms, and several companies are now combining the two functions into one unit.

Bimetalic strips are composed of two metals with different properties in the case of fire alarms it is the difference in thermal expansion that is important. When the strip is heated (due to a fire) the strip bend and can complete an electric circuit setting off the alarm.

It depends upon your local rules and the insurance company, but generally they know that an alarm, by itself, does not protect the house from fire. Fire insurance rates are primarily driven by an evaluation of the local fire DEPARTMENT, including how far away they are, whether they're volunteers or full-time, whether there are fire hydrants, and so forth.

They DO save lives!

They protect you and warn you for early signs of fire. Therefore you are evacuated by the signall of a fire alarm quickly before the fire gets too dangerous. Some Fire Aalrm Systems automaticaly call the fire brigade. So you do not need to call them when there is a fire or when the alarm goes off, you can concentrate on getting everybody out of the building. Not only fire, they can be manually activated if someone finds a bomb, therefore evacuating the building away from the bomb. Dangerous chemical spills etc. A whole variety of reasons to just get someone out of the building quickly to ensure that they are safe for what ever reason!

Call the company that produces your detector an ask them. Other wise try your local fire department. Some detectors always flash to let you know that they're on and functioning properly. Although, it could be broken or low on battery power.

EST3's can ONLY be programmed by a licensed EST Programmer. When you go through the 1 week programming class, you get entered into their internal network of programmed. They then issue you a fob (or a hasp) which is basically the key that ties any particular program back to the programmer.

Their are alot of other issues as well, such as, if you dont have the most current copy of your program, then you will most likely cause more problems.

Also, the entire functionality of the system is done in computer code.

For a battery-operated smoke detector, you simply remove the battery. For a mains-powered smoke detector, the only way to disable it is to disable the mains power running to it.

However, both of these methods are not recommended, as people tend to forget to turn them back on. Instead, open a window and run a fan to evacuate the smoke.

Style 7 Wiring is a type of wiring start from panel connects all field devices and return back to control panel. It is also called class A wiring.

Advantage of style 7/class -A wiring is that if the wire breaks from one side still the field devices get supply from other end.

In a fire alarm system (usually conventional systems use this technique) a resistor is placed at the very end of the fire alarm circuit at the last device. This device could be a Manual Call point, Sounder, Bell Smoke/Heat detector, strobe etc. This then enables the panel to monitor the circuit. For example, if the resistor is moved or disconnected, then it will show up as a fault on the panel, giving indication the something has gone wrong in the system and that it needs to be fixed. Not all EOL's are resistors though. They can also be capacitors or diodes from what we know.
