Can use sealer for porcelain tile?
Porcelain is usually sealed already. You then add sealer to the grout.
How much 12x12 ceramic tiles come to a box?
The sq ft per box as well as the # of tiles per box vary based on the manufacturer and the sub brand. But, generally, they tend to range from 10 to 20 per box for 12 x 12 tile. (the boxes are too heavy if there are more).
Often, for 12 x 12 tile, I see 11 and 15, but it will vary based on the item you select.
VDF Flooring
also known as Vacuum Dewatered Flooring is a special type of Flooring Technique to achieve High Strength, Longer Life, Better Finish and Faster Work. This type of floor is suitable for high abrasion & heavy traffic movement.
In this system, concrete is poured in place & vibrated with a poker vibrator. Then a screed vibrator is run over the surface, supported on channel shuttering spaced 4.0 meters apart. The screed vibrator is run twice to achieve optimum compaction & levelling. After this a system of lower mats & top mat is laid on the green concrete & this is attached to a vacuum pump. This draws out excess water. The concrete is left to stiffen. When the base concrete has stiffened to the point when light foot traffic leaves an imprint of about 3-6 mm,a suitable Floor Hardener should be applied at an even application rate of between 3-5 Kg/Sqmt.
Any bleed water should now have evaporated, but the concrete should have a wet sheen. The concrete is then furt
her compacted and levelled using Power Floater followed by finishing as per the requirement using Power Trowel.
How do you maintain floor polisher?
You maintain a floor polisher by keeping the buffer head tight, replacing the pads regularly, and removing excessive buildup. This will prolong its life and effectiveness.
How do you lay 18mm Brazilian hardwood floor over a terrazzo floor?
Do you mean solid hardwood? You should not install 3/4" solid hardwood directly on top of terrazzo, or concrete or tile. Solid hardwood is supposed to be nailed into 3/4" plywood.
Now theoretically, you might be able to add 3/4" plywood in, if you can actually get it into the terrazzo. It is possible (but challenging) to add plywood into concrete using hilties, but it tends to be expensive and time consuming. Also, if you were to add plywood and solid hardwood, you would be raising your floor 1.5 inches. This may cause some height issues, especially for the doors (which might need to be shaved or replaced). If there is kitchen, this could cause height issues with appliances and/or cabinets.
However, if you mean an engineered hardwood, it could be floated on top of the terrazzo. You put an underlayment underneath and then install the wood on top. If it is a clickable engineered wood, then you just click it in; if it isn't, then you would glue the joints together.
Do you need to seal both sides of Travertine before laying it?
No. You seal the top part of travertine AFTER it's installed.
Can you use Maples Rugs on hardwood floors?
I'm not familiar with "Maples Rugs," but in general, yes you can use area rugs on hardwood floors. Importantly, though, it is critical that you use an area rug pad underneath ANY area rug.
This is important so that a) you don't scratch the hardwood underneath, 2) provides slip resistance, and c) prolongs the life of your area rug.
What is the ratio of cement mixture in installing floor tiles?
I am not an expert but from experience selling tiles the following are guidelines:
1. The type of surface determines how much cement to use
2.The quality of cement will also affect ratio
3.The area to be tiled e.g. wall or floor determines the quantity
on average 2-3 squares meters will require one 20Kg tile adhesive
Why should you avoid from using too much wax on flooring?
You shouldn't use wax unless the floor was finished with wax. More than likely, the floor has oil or water based polyurethane on it. Why you shouldn't use wax on any polyurethane finish, it prevents the finish from adhering if you ever have the floor re-coated with poly. You will have to spend around two dollars a foot to sand them rather than .50 or .75 cents a foot to re-coat the floor. Prices depend on where you live.
Mopping a wood floor with soap and water is deadly damage to the floor and certainly to the finish. Water should NEVER be used on wood.
use a manufacturer approved floor cleaner and never mop or pour it on.
Can you put vinyl on top of tile?
No this is not advisable, As the tile has lines called grout lines, they are indented as is most of the tiles you buy. Then to ad the adhesive of the vinyl and then the vinyl you will have air trapped which will cause the vinyl to move , rip, and you wont like this either. It has to laid atop a clean dry dust and partical free area, as one tiny rock or nail head popping up can cause this to hole and tear.
However you can apply Vinyl Tile Atop of Tile flooring as long as you make sure to level the floor. The two (bottom & top) tiles must be even and level for this to happen, see my insert for this:
Inspect the ceramic tile for any loosened or damaged tiles. Repair small cracks or chips with liquid epoxy. Remove any severely damaged pieces and fill the gaps with liquid cement or mortar. Use only enough cement or mortar to bring the section even with the rest of the tiles; you must maintain a flat surface.
Mix grout and water as instructed with your specific product; different products will require different mixtures of each. Use a grout trowel to add grout to the joints between the ceramic tiles, until they are completely even with the tile surfaces. Wipe any excess grout from the joints or the tiles with paper towels. Adding grout to the joints will give you a completely flat surface.

Install an underlayment if directed by your chosen vinyl product. Some vinyl tiles are designed to adhere directly to the old floor, while others will require a layer of plywood or other underlayment to control moisture and possible expansion or contraction.
Sweep the floor clean to remove any dust or dirt from grouting or installing the underlayment. Any dirt or dust left on the surface can ruin the way the new tiles adhere to the surface.
Lay vinyl tiles, beginning in the center of the floor and working your way out. If you are working in a large area, you may benefit from breaking the area into quadrants and working one section at a time.
Pull away the wax paper backing of self-adhesive tiles and carefully lay the tile in place, rubbing firmly across the surface to encourage the adhesive to stick. If you are working with tiles that do not self-stick, use a trowel to spread a thin, even layer of adhesive on the ceramic or underlayment and press the tiles in to place.
Cut tiles to size using a vinyl tile cutter to make tiles fit around vents or against the wall. Continue to install tile until the entire floor is covered.
Roll the entire floor surface with a baker's roller to ensure that all areas stick equally.
Allow the adhesive to dry for at least five days before washing, so that the glue has enough time to dry.
What do you mean by floor finish?

What should you use to coat wooden floor that is long lasting?
I own a hardwood floor refinishing business and the only long lasting finish I will use is an oil modified polyurethane by Parks. It will last for a long, long time to come. The down side is that it is $50.00 per gallon.

Which is stronger granite or porcelain?
they are both very hard. both take alot to scratch or damage. the difference is that porcelains have a finish on the surface so if you chip it you will see a different color in the chip. if you chip granite there is no difference in color because what you see on the surface of granite is what it looks like through the stone and all you have to do is fill the chip with a clear epoxy filler.
