Can you install vct tile over vct tile?
Yes you can install vct over existing vct. The existing vct must be well adhered to the subfloor, no loose tiles or cracked and chipped tiles. If tiles are missing or must be removed you will need to patch in those spots with a suitable portland cement leveler or new pieces of vct. You will need to sand off the wax layer that may be present on the existing vct because if it is left on it can wear loose over time causing adhesion failure of the new vct and glue. Sweep all dust and contaminants from the floor.

The first thing that happens is the Hydration process is interrupted by the water in the mix no longer being able to properly mix with and have time to react [Hydrate] the Portland Cement. A concrete floor meant to develop 3500 psi may only test out at 2500. With a bad cure you will see dusting, scaling and flaking of a finished surface almost immediately. Very Important to observe ambient temperatures hot and cold when placing concrete. If you live in a cold area, Freeze Thaw Damage is a condition where excess moisture that is allowed to accumulate IN a Cured concrete will expand on freezing [10-15%] and cause surface delaminations, pop outs and scaling of a surface long after it has set or cured. That's why it is so important to waterproof even an aged concrete with a penetrating sealer to decrease the moisture content and avoid this also.
You mix it according to the instructions and pour it into the low areas as needed. While it is still liquid, it flows and produces a level surface. See Link
How long does sealer for ceramic tile need to dry before walking on it?

Can you use pressboard for your underlayment to set tile?
Yes! But you need to make sure you have proper support underneath i.e floor joists. Make sure they are sturdy and supportive, if they start moving, your tile will be ruined. Try to use 3/4" pressboard on the joists screwed every 8"...stagger the boards so there is no continuous running joints. On top of that use 1/2" cement board like durock. You must use thin set between the two boards and screw them together. Also, use thin set , as you would spackle, in the joints of durock with mesh material as reinforcement. Make sure to use the green screws specifically made for cement board. Wait 24 hrs and start tiling...goodluck
Should you tip the tile installer?
YES - The Tile Installer.
But really, a tip means a lot more to us than the $$. It confirms that we did a good job and that we showed respect to your home and family. I may make $1000 installing a floor, but it is that $20 tip that makes my day.
What are the advantages of using concrete instead of these traditional building materials?
wood: wood can crack unlike concrete and wood is affected by water which can cause it to rot whereas concrete is not
Metals: Metals can rust whereas concrete does not and metals can easily scratch
Bricks: Bricks are more expensive than concrete and bricks take generally more 'man power' to place down whereas concrete does not.
Hope this has been a good help
