What does as the water fell on the floor mean?

I've always assumed it's a euphemism, that he peed his pants. Not an unreasonable reaction when staring at the business end of a large caliber handgun held by someone with malice in mind.

What are the advantages of using concrete instead of these traditional building materials?

wood: wood can crack unlike concrete and wood is affected by water which can cause it to rot whereas concrete is not

Metals: Metals can rust whereas concrete does not and metals can easily scratch

Bricks: Bricks are more expensive than concrete and bricks take generally more 'man power' to place down whereas concrete does not.

Hope this has been a good help

Can you use pressboard for your underlayment to set tile?

Yes! But you need to make sure you have proper support underneath i.e floor joists. Make sure they are sturdy and supportive, if they start moving, your tile will be ruined. Try to use 3/4" pressboard on the joists screwed every 8"...stagger the boards so there is no continuous running joints. On top of that use 1/2" cement board like durock. You must use thin set between the two boards and screw them together. Also, use thin set , as you would spackle, in the joints of durock with mesh material as reinforcement. Make sure to use the green screws specifically made for cement board. Wait 24 hrs and start tiling...goodluck

Should you tip the tile installer?

YES - The Tile Installer.

But really, a tip means a lot more to us than the $$. It confirms that we did a good job and that we showed respect to your home and family. I may make $1000 installing a floor, but it is that $20 tip that makes my day.

Do hardwood floors make a house cold?

Hardwood floors are cooler to the touch than carpet, but I don't consider them to be a cold flooring, nor do they make a house cold. The house is cold because of the way it is built and insulated.

Which is better laminate or hardwood floors?

This largely depends on the properties desired. Laminate flooring can be very strong against impact but is very weak against water. Real wood floor also take more work to install and upkeep. However, with proper care they can outlive you. Also, since only the surface of laminates have the coloring a scratch cannot easily be repaired. Where as a light sanding and a new coat of urethane and the real wood floor looks brand new.

How can you renew white grout?

You can try to clean it with bleach or a special grout cleaner. White grout tends to turn yellow with time. You may want to dig out some of the grout and put new over it. Then be sure to seal the grout - an ongoing process.

Is tile a non porous surface?

It depends on what the tile is made of. Some stone tiles need to be treated and sealed to be non porous. Ceramic or porcelain tiles will be non porous. You can find out these things when you select a tile and ask how to care for it.

Also, as a rule of thumb most tiles that are used for household purposes (esp. showers, bathrooms, kitchens, etc) will be treated to make them nonporous even if the material they're made of themselves are porous

What is the r value of ceramic floor tile?

It will depend greatly on the thickness & install method, however a standard unit of measure would be .020 for 1/4" thick tiles which is almost the same value as Concrete at .100 for 1" thickness

Is reglazing tile and repainting tile the same thing?

It takes about 1400 degrees to fuse glaze to a tile, so I doubt anyone is really glazing your floor tile.

More likely its an epoxy or some other sticky 2 part paint system, but it isn't glaze!

Can you put polyurethane on laminate floors?

Always hate to answer a question with a question, but sometimes it helps..

Why would you want to do that & what does it get you??

Laminate has a stain proof surface and the Polyurethane wont stick long term, My belief & experience is that what you propose wont work..

What is the cost of Laminate floor vs wood floor?

Laminate Vs Vinyl

LAMINATE: is a relatively new creation, introduced about 30 years ago by Perstorp in Sweden. It is basically a Formica type Melamine surface laminated (Glued) to a very dimensionally stable and harder than hardwood; fiberboard substrate.

Usually shipped in + or- 25 sq ft boxes of planks about 8"X49" depending on the vendor.

Today the edges are finely micro milled to fit/click together without glue or nails. The floor is pieced together at the jobsite much like Tongue & groove hardwood has been for centuries. But the laminate needs no nails & just lays in place held down by Gravity & the edge trim like quarter round.

The surface is actually a photograph of whatever you want the floor to look like. Walnut, tile, oak or butterflies if it would sell.

The surface is covered with an extremely hard gel coat, which usually includes minerals such as Aluminum oxide to make it very hard.

The term Floating floor is often used to explain the way Laminate is installed..

Wood is richer, adds to the value of a home and will cost about the same on the low end for wood as the high end for laminate.

Wood starts at about $2 per sq ft & $4-8 per sq ft is common & laminate starts about $1 & $3-5 is commmon

Laminate is much harder than vinyl or even real hardwood, easier to install, easier to maintain, tougher to take abuse and easier to repair.

Is installing wood floors a capital improvement?

By most accounting rules wood flooring is a cap improvement, if it is a replacement floor there may be a depreciation schedule offset to the original to consider, but likely not.

At this point it is more an GAAP question

What is the difference between first floor from ground floor?

Why do tiles in the bathroom feel colder than the same temperature floor in a different room?

In the short answer the terms are heat sink & Insulative value.

Densely packed materials, like stone, glass & steel always feel cooler than paper, textiles or wood in the same conditions.

Densely packed materials absorb and store heat, if they are at or cooler than your touch, they will seek to absorb that heat difference and store it, and since they are cooler & denser they just keep sucking the heat away & swapping it out for their abundantly and densely stored coolness.

Wood on the other hand is much less dense. Wood floats, rock sinks. Wood is mostly air and cellulose, both of which are lighter than water so a log floats. Insulative value, almost all insulation works on a very simple premis, still air doesn't conduct much heat. So since wood is mostly wood it returns the heat, because its an insulator & tile, which is made of sand & ground stone, draws heat out of your hand because its a heat sink.
