Food Chains and Food Webs

Food chains can't go on forever because each consumer is only able to receive 10 percent of the energy that the plant that was eaten had. There are also only so many animals that are able to eat other animals.

The crayfish could be a primary consumer but it matters where it stands in that particular food web.

Through innovation, man is at the top of the food chain, eating that which he desires (hunters/farmers/consumers), and keeping that which he desires from being eaten (environmentalist groups/other groups protecting endangered species).

The producers of the Savannah are the shrubs, trees, and grass which get their own nourishment. The consumers include wild animals that are vegetarians. The primary consumers are the animals that catch the plant eating animals as prey.

Well I think that the factor of extiction of one species ot he introduction of an alien species into the ecosystem will affect the food chain, for some species will mean going up and for other species will mean going down in the food chain. That is why many countries forbid the introduction of foreign plants or animals into their ecosystems. One big example I can think of is the migration of African bees in America; beginning in the south they have traveled upwards causing havoc in the ecosystems and the only effective barrier they've found is the temperature, being a tropical species they get eventually blocked by northern temperatures, hope they don't breed a new bee which can support lower temperatres. If the food chain is disturbed animals will go hungry. A disruption in the food chain will mean some animals go without the food that they need, while the disruption will cause over population of other animals that will result in food shortages.

Usually, quaternary consumers are at the top of the food chain. The only thing that would eat a quaternary consumer is another quaternary comsumer (like a human).

I think it's to keep the food fresh & not rot or grow fungus or something like that until you're ready to bake & then eat it.

Plants use energy from the sun to produce their food( gulcose) in a process called photosynthesis . When animals eat these plants , then other animals eat animals that eat those plants , there you have a life cycle that has the sun as a base source of energy.
