How do forensic scientist help police?
The forensic scientists can help identify the means of death and how long they have been dead. More importantly, the forensic scientists can use the bones of the deceased person to identify their ethnicity, age, height, gender, and specific things about their body. ie, how many times the dead person has given birth if the person is a female.Also, forensic artists can create a sculpture of what the dead person would have looked like in life, if they have access to a skull. This would help the police to identify who was murdered.

Basically you need to learn how to detect blood spatter, be able to perform an autopsy in some cases to help you find the COD (Cause of Death). On-the-scene obviously need to know how the equipment works and how to be in the "mind of the suspect". Interregators obviously need to be trained in interrigation and how to make people talk.

Health and safety in forensic science is vital, as the presence of body fluids is very common. These body fluids e.g. blood, saliva and semen etc. can contain disease such as AIDS and hepatitis B. So to avoid the transfer of these infections from samples to scientists precautions must be taken. These include wearing gloves, face masks and goggles, and also ensuring that all staff are adequately trained and equipment is properly maintained.
