Victor Frankenstein is not a doctor.
He was born and raised in Geneva Switzerland.
He went to the University of Ingostadt in Switzerland where he creates the "monster". At this time, Victor is a student of "natural philosophy", which involves chemistry and other science.
Also of note:
Victor Frankenstein is the creator of the monster, which is called the "creature" for much of the time in the novel.
The creature has no name.
How is symbolism used in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein?
There is an unbelievable number of symbolism in the paragraph where the creature has just killed Elizabeth and Victor races into the room to see what has happened alone. They include: Windows/Shutters= borderlines that the creature could not cross until the moment when he reached into Victor's life and took Elizabeth from him. Yellow = throughout the book, yellow is the color of evil and the monster (yellow eyes, yellow moon light) Moon = the fact that the creature is protected by Nature (learning to live in the forest, and so on).
Lightning = the moment of life, and the energy that filled the creature with life and potential. Lake = the lake represents the potential of the novel.
The way the lake is portrayed mimics the tone of the story. i.e. it is peaceful when Victor is young and innocent, but when Victor is depressed after hearing of William's murder and is returning home in chapter 7, Nature reflects his mood, "vivid flashes of lightning dazzled my eyes, illuminating the lake, making it appear like a vast sheet of fire" (Shelley 50).

Where did Robert Walton hire the ship and crew for his trip in Frankenstein?

Actually I don't think it would have been wise for him to make a female creature.
The creature told Frankenstein that if he would make him a wife,
he and she would go far away from the world of men and he would
never again harm a living thing. Frankenstein, as many people know,
did not do this, fearing that the female might not agree with the creature's
plans or that they would hate each other. This, in my opinion, would to little
to change the creature's ways. Besides this, there is not telling what the female's
actions would be. Also, Frankenstein thought, even if she did agree to join the creature in exile, they might reproduce, and so he destroyed the nearly completed female,
setting the creature on to more murders.
The solution to the reproductive problem, of course, is devastatingly simple:
Frankenstein should simply have built a female without reproductive organs.

Why is chapter 5 in Frankenstein so crucial to the whole novel?
In Chapter 5, Victor is successful in bringing his creation to life. However, he becomes horrified because of the creature's appearance. He runs from the room and does not return until the creature has left. This leaves the creature all alone and without a guide or father-figure. At first the creature is good and well-meaning. But without Victor or anyone to guide him, he must find out about life by himself and people treat him terribly. This eventually leads to the creature's change into a monster and the death of most of Victor's family and other important people in Victor's life. So this chapter serves to set up the change in both the creature and the creator.

How is Frankenstein compared with the modern Prometheus?
Prometheus was one who, in Greek mythology, stole fire from the gods and gave it to man. As punishment for his misdeeds, Zeus, chained Prometheus to a rock and sentenced him to have his innards pecked out everyday by vultures.
Dr. Frankenstein is a fictional character in Mary Shelley's novel, Frankenstein, or, The Modern Prometheus. In the novel, the doctor creates life using ground-breaking technology and methodology. His experiments climax when he reanimates a dead man, which he had stitched together from several corpses of other dead men. Not moments after his creature had come to life, Frankenstein was filled with hate and disgust for his 'son'.
Frankenstein was essentially 'punished'. He had stolen a gift of the gods -in this case life, as opposed to fire- and now had to have his innards eaten out, so to speak. His punishment was that he hated his own creation, which he thought he would love unconditionally.
Frankenstein, or, The Modern Prometheus is a fantastic novel that can be seen as a trial of the soul, a political allegory, an existential work, representation of Greek mythology and so forth, but, what it ultimately tells the reader is a tale about human nature and discovering who you are and what your purpose is on Earth. Hope this helps!
