Unless the person specifically states that he is a member of the Freemasons, it is hard to know for sure. If it is someone you know, you should ask. If it is not, it is none of your business.

The Catholic Church have over the centuries condemned freemasonry, even though many catholics are members. The church has condemned many things such as Condom use, contraceptives etc.. etc.. even Rotary International - however Catholics rarely take notice of such rules in todays times. Freemasonry is secret and unless a member divulges there status its likely to stay that way. While the pope undertakes certain Masonic gestures and signs, nobody has confirmed or denied his status as a 33 degree Freemason (or for that matter a 32 degree). The visual evidence points towards the fact that he most probably is a 33 degree Freemason, but its open to interpretation. Hardline Catholics would probably disagree though.

The only sacrifice made in Freemasonry is the sacrifice of time, money and energy on the part of the individual member. Members sacrifice time to attend meetings and help with the work of the lodge. Members also sacrifice a bit of money in paying their annual dues, and donating to charities sponsored by the lodge. Members also sacrifice effort in working for the good of the lodge, and the charities it sponsors.

You will need to ask them. There is no listing of who is and who is not a Freemason. Some people choose to make that public knowledge, some do not.

Nobody. The oldest records of Freemasonry show it as being already in existence from an earlier time. The Regius Manuscript (ca. 1380) does say that Athelstan, grandson of Alfred the great, founded English Freemasonry in the tenth century, but this is probably a legend.
