As for devices, depending on your school of thought and which particular theories you adhere to, you can use everything from a simple directional compass to sensitive ELF/EMF detectors, torsion field detectors, Ion Meters, and the like.

There are also some semblance of a theory that temperature can drop along with paranormal activity, so having a thermometer would be a good thing.

There isn't a real cinematic performance when they are there. There are no dense fogs, and creepy music.

Other than that its all going to be different for each ghost and each encounter. Finding some sort of trigger can often persuade the sentient spirits to work harder to show themselves, that's why some people argue with them.

Keep in mind, if ghosts are real, and if they are sentient, dealing with them would be no different than dealing with any other person on the planet, so use some shade of compassion.

• Sweet Hallow Road is also tied to Mount Misery. There are several stories of haunting, but none proven. #1 Three boys committed suicide by hanging themselves off the Northern State overpass bridge and if one is driving by you can see the three boys hanging there. There is no documented record of this. #2 A school bus full of children were driving by the overpass bridge and the bus lost control and slid off the bridge killing everyone. Some have reported putting their car in neutral and can feel the car being pushed and think it is the children of that bus that is trying to save them from the same fate that took their lives. There is no documented record of this. #3 A young woman and her boyfriend got into an argument and he pushed her out of the moving car and when she fell onto the road the car behind her ran over her and killed her. Some say that as they have driven by they see a young woman in white standing at the side of the road and as soon as the driver's car comes close she will jump out in front of it. Her name was said to be simply 'Mary' and her grave site can be found at the cemetery on Sweet Hallow Road. #4 A few report that a police officer was shot and killed on Sweet Hollow Road and when people are driving down the road at night he will pull them over and act just as if he were a living police officer, but when he turns to go back to his police car the driver's have told the tale that the back of the police officer's head was blown off by a shotgun. There is no documented record of this. #5 During the 1930s there was a Day Camp for children where apparently some were abused and killed and it is said sometimes they walk along the side of the road during the night and just vanish as quickly as they appeared. Many say that there are no such things as ghosts (or entities) but it has never been proven that they do not exist. However, some towns will tell ghost stories that come down through the decades and are embellished or, some towns will say a highway; lane; hotel or other buildings are haunted to attract tourists. One will never know unless they experience traveling down Sweet Hallow Road at night.

I think it is to find what they want. Some spirits don't even know they are dead, and are confused. Some just want to find loved ones. And some are either insane or mean. I mean, come on, if you were a ghost wouldn't you like to get revenge by giving a little scare?

Well, I believe in ghosts because:

One night I woke up and I heard like music, or I don't know muffled sounds I guess. Then (even with my eyes closed) there was this flashing. So I opened my eyes and... nothing, no flashing, no music. I closed my eyes again and tried to go back to sleep. Then I heard the sound again and more flashing, almost like something was trying to get my attention, so I opened my eyes again and nothing! I thought I was going crazy. So I tried to fall back to sleep for the third time and then the next thing I knew, I was hit in the head. It hurt for a second then it left like it never had happened. I looked around the room and no-one was there. It was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I think it was a ghost.

• The Baker Hotel is west of Fort Worth Texas. In 1877 Judge James Lynch dug a well and found mineral water; believed to have healing powers. In 1929 the luxurious resort hotel and spa officially opened. Some said it was a grave mistake and waste of money. The rich and famous such as Will Rogers; Judy Garland and Marlene Dietrich (to name a few) visited the Baker Hotel/Spa. In 1932 the mineral waters dried up and to this day the Baker Hotel is said to be the 'biggest white elephant in Texas' as far as Real Estate profiting. The Baker Hotel reopened it's doors in the 1940s as homes to WWII families and again opened it's doors in 1965, but soon closed for good seven years later. The most talked about haunted in about the mistress of the hotel manager who was upset over their relationship and jumped from her seventh floor room. It is said her spirit roams the floor and the rest of the building. People have said they can smell her perfume and if she found an attractive male she would flirt with them much to the shock of the unsuspecting person in the hotel. Her high heels clicked across the floor and drinking glasses were found with lipstick stains even though no guest had stayed in that particular room. Different windows in the empty Baker Hotel have been sighted by people as being open off and on and activity also included the ballroom and the sixth; eighth and tenth floors of the Brazos room. Some people hear voices as if multiple people from a different time are still visiting the Baker Hotel. Dishes rattle and there have been reports of the smell of chocolate and the sound of a live band.
