I have read that grapes require extra saliva and fluid to be digested or they can cause cramps. I don't know if that helps at all but maybe that has something to do with an empty stomach. Not all grapes become raisins. A raisin is made from a Thomson seedless grape that is cut when ripe, put on paper/tray in the field, and dried with the sun. If it rains while the grapes are on the tray/paper they are no good because they will mold so they are sold to make brandy and the farmer looses money. When the drying process is done the papers are rolled up and picked up so the raisins can be sent to be washed and cleaned, then sold. I live in the largest raisin growing region in the United States and the Sunmaid Raisin processing plant is only about 20 miles from me so I have watched the growth and production of raisins all of my life.
