There is not an official record kept of the number of people who have fallen off of The Great Wall of China. However, it is estimated that between 2-5 people fall off the wall yearly.

Part of the wall was built in the mid-6th century to begin with. Many people have their reasons for visiting it the beauty, the thought to be right next to something that is really old, and the history of it. You can compare this to why people like visiting the St. Louis Arch or the Statue of Liberty its the same reasons almost.

Contrary to popular belief, you can NOT see the Great Wall from space. The wall is just over 9 meters wide (approximately 30 feet). The color of the wall is almost similar to the mountain it is built on. While you may see it from low earth orbit (around 160km or 100 miles) it would be tiny and the conditions must be perfect.

There were four major building periods of the wall:

208 BC (the Qin Dynasty)

1st century BC (the Han Dynasty)

1138 - 1198 (the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms Period)

1368-1620 (from the Hongwu Emperor until the Wanli Emperor of the Ming Dynasty)

its been anounced to be the country with the longest history which goes back to more than 6000 years.

The Great wall of China is 3948 miles in length, and walking for 10 hours a day at an average of 30 minutes per mile which allows for an easy walking pace/backpack and changes in elevation the walk would be completed in 197.4 days!!!!! I would allow 1 day a week rest which would put an extra 28.2 days on top which totals 225.6 days

This is only a guess but many people may have died simply from exhaustion from extremely hard labor in unsafe working conditions. Poor food could also have caused them to be under-nourished. As a consequence many wall-builders may have died from deadly infections because their bodies were not able to fight off diseases as well as healthy bodies can do.

The Great Wall stretches across North China from east to west for over 6,000 kilometers. It extends from the shanhai pass at the seaside in the Hebei province in the east to the Jiayu pass in Gansu province in the west.

About 1200 miles and some people are asking if the Great Wall is in Hong Kong its in the Gobi Desert.

Watch towers were used on the Great Wall of China to keep people in one side, and out of another. These watch towers were usually anywhere from 100 to 200 meters apart.

It is made of hard roasted lime brick blocks of rock and stones and other rocks and mineral type of things.

The Great Wall of China was intended to protect the country from foreign invaders. The barricade proved to be only as strong as its weakest sentry. Several times the Wall was breached by enemies who paid off sentries to let them in.

The constructed height varied from 5 to 8 meters (16 to 26 feet), depending on terrain and other factors. Its thickness ranges from about 4.5 to 9 meters (15 to 30 feet).
