The Greek gods and goddesses were: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Athena, Dionysus, Ares, Artemis, Apollos, Aphrodite, Demeter, Hermes, Hephaestus, and honorarily Hestia, who was once in the Pantheon but forfieted her position to Dionysus to prevent war.
Hades got his powers when he and his 2 brothers, Zeus and Poseidon defeated Kronus and the titans. Zeus, Poseidon and Hades all drew straws to see what powers they got, Zeus drew the longest straw and became God of the Sky. Poseidon drew the middle straw and became God of the sea. Hades drew the shortest straw and became God of the Underworld.

What is the Greek name of Hades?

Answer:
In Greek mythology Hades was the ruler of the underworld or realm of the dead (also referred to as Hades by some). He is the oldest male child of Cronus and Rhea. His brothers are Zeus and Poseidon. He has no special powers.
The Greek Hades (the place) should not be confused with the Christian Hell. There are no eternal flames ongoing torment - more like an eternal boredom of wandering around in the chilly dullness for all dead souls. Similarly Hades (the god) should not be confused with Satan or the Devil.
Answer 2: Hades is the God of the Underworld, the dead, and riches. He has the power to protect the departed souls from any tormentors they may have. To pass judgment upon them, and to guard the Underworld. Also being a God of wealth, he has sway over the riches of people.
Hades is the God of the Underworld, the dead, and riches. He has power over all the departed souls, and the ability to pass judgment on them.
Hades' wife is the beautiful Persephone. She is the daughter of Demeter, goddess of the grain.
She stays with Hades in Tartarus, the underworld, for a fourth of the year. The rest of the time, she is with her mother. This joint-custody was decided by Zeus in the court of the gods. Originally, Persephone was going to be separated from Hades entirely, but then Persephone violated the terms (she would be returned to her mother if she had consumed none of the Food Of The Dead). She had eaten three pomegranate seeds out of the twelve. So, during those months, Demeter refuses to do any work and grieves for her daughter, which results in the season of winter - where no plants grow.

Styx is the most well known river that flows through Hades.
The five rivers of the Realm of Hades, and their symbolic meanings, are Acheron (the river of sorrow, or woe), Cocytus (lamentation), Phlegethon (fire), Lethe (oblivion), and Styx (hate).
Appearance: Like Zeus, Hades is usually represented as a vigorous bearded man.
Symbols or Attributes: Scepter, Helm of Darkness, and horn of plenty.
Strengths: Rich with the wealth of the Earth, especially precious metals. Persistent and determined.
Weaknesses: Passionate over Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, whom Zeus promised to Hades as his bride. (Unfortunately, Zeus apparently neglected to mention it to either Demeter or Persephone.) Impulsive, favoring sudden, decisive actions. Can also be deceptive.
Birthplace: The most common story is that Hades was born to the Great Mother goddess Rhea and Kronos (Father Time) on the island of Crete, along with his brothers Zeus and Poseidon. He was swallowed by his father, who thought his children would overthrow him. Kronos later coughed him up along with Hestia, Demeter, Poseidon, and Hera.
Spouse: Persephone, who must stay with him part of each year because she ate a few pomegranate seeds in the Underworld.
Pets: Cerberus, a three-headed dog, black horses, and various other hounds.
Some Major Temple Sites: The spooky Nekromanteion on the River Styx along the west coast of mainland Greece, still visitable today.
Basic Myth: Hades springs out of the earth and captures Persephone, dragging her off to be his queen in the Underworld. Her mother Demeter searches for her and stops all foods from growing until Persephone is returned. Finally, a deal is worked out where Persephone stays one-third of the year with Hades, one-third of the year serving as a handmaiden to Zeus at Mount Olympus, and one-third with her mother; other stories skip Zeus's portion and divide Persephone's time between Hades and her mother.
Interesting Fact: Hades originally may have been all of the dark and underworld aspects of Zeus, eventually considered to be a separate deity. He is sometimes called "Zeus of the Departed". His name originally probably meant "invisible" or "unseen", as the dead go away and are seen no more.
Hades is God of:

Ghosts and Necromancy (as the god of the Underworld, which is land of the dead)
Curses and the Furies (the Furies are the daughters of Hades and avenge the divine laws broken by both dead and alive alike)
Dreams (Dream gods dwell in the Underworld, and Hades has charge of them)
Mining and Metals (that all these are found beneath the earth, where Hades rules)
Earth's Fertility (by Persephone goddess of spring ascending to Earth)
He has a three headed dog that you can see on Harry Potter chamber of secrets. Mother is Rhea.

Cerberus was born from an egg. He was one of the offspring of Echidna (part woman, part serpent) and Typhon (a giant who was serpent to the hips with a human upper body, some depict the head as human, some as dragon). When Cerberus was still a pup, Hades called on him and his mother offering a gift of gold jewelery. Echidna stated that she would accept the gift if it were a gift for Cerberus's birth, but not if it was a payment to take the pup. Hades left the gift anyway as a show of what serving him could bring.
One day Cerberus entered into a fight with a shark. When he came face to face with the shark, he saw it had a boat with a frightened girl in it. Cerberus killed the shark and pulled the boat away saving the girl who's name was Delia. Delia accepted Cerberus as a friend despite his frightful looks. One day when they were out together while Delia healed animals, a female approached persuading Cerberus to go see his mother. While Cerberus was gone, Delia was killed by Argus, a monster sent by Hades. Hades had constructed the whole elaborate scheme.
Cerberus was pained by the death of Delia, and struck a deal to serve Hades for a thousand years as a guard, allowing no soul to escape and no living human to enter the underworld. Delia's spirit would be given in return after his thousand years of service.
