Heart

The heart is a major organ of the body that is found in the circulatory system. It pumps blood throughout the blood vessels. Questions related to the heart should be put here.

What is produced when the heart contracts?

What are you asking?

The heat consists of 4 chambers (in humans) that contract (squeeze) and force blood through out the body, with the cycle constantly replenishing oxygen into the blood and delivering it to the rest of the body, returning the blood to the heat, and the cycle continues.

When Oxygen-rich blood from the lungs enters the heart at what structure?

The alveoli of the lungs are surrounded by capillaries. As the blood travels through the capillaries, the red blood cells become oxygenated and give up their load of CO2

What is a ventricle?

In the heart, a ventricle is a heart chamber which collects blood from an atrium (another heart chamber that is smaller than a ventricle) and pumps it out of the heart.

Also another definition is....

The paired (right and left) more muscular chambers of the heart that pump blood into the pulmonary (right ventricle) and systemic (left ventricle) circulation.

Right Ventricle: Receives blood from the right atrium and pumps it to the pulmonary artery.

Left Ventricle: Receives blood from the left atrium and pumps it to the aorta.

In what chamber of the heart do the superior and inferior vena cava open?

Anterior and posterior vena cavae are two collecting blood vessels, which open into right atrium of heart. They collect de-oxygenated blood from all the parts of the body.

Heart beat at 56 per minutes?

textbook average range is 60-100 beats per minute for all humans everywhere

Is depolarization the same as contraction in the heart?

The nerve impulse causes the release of acetylcholine from the motor end plate. This causes the depolarization of the membrane of the adjacent muscle cell.

What is the name of the circulation through the human heart?

It is just called the circulatory system, and it is one of my favorites to learn about.

How do you keep our heart health?

Exercise regularly, avoid fatty foods, don't smoke. Consider having your cholesterol level tested. Don't let yourself get overweight.

What word best describes the beating of the heart and the circulation of blood?

the cardiovascular system working is simply called circulation.

Do kids have bigger hearts than adults?

A males heart is 25% bigger than a females, this means that the males heart can hold more blood, it can pump more blood and is can pump more blood at a more efficient rate. I.e. stroke volume, heart rate cardiac output are all increased. A males resting heart rate can beat up to five to eight beats per minute less than a female's. This shows that when a male exercises he has more capacity within his heart to exert more pressure and strain onto it.

The base of the heart is its blank surface?

Is it's posterosuperior surface. Made up of the left atrium for the most part, and also a bit of the right atrium. The left ventricle makes up the apex.

What are the two main chambers of the heart?

Blood starts off in the Right Atrium. At this point it is not carrying any oxygen. It is then pumped into the Right Ventricle, which sends it to the lungs. After receiving oxygen i nthe lungs the blood returns to the heart to the Left Atrium, which pumps it into the Left Ventricle, which pumps it throughout the body.

How would you say the structural difference reflects the relative functions of the two heart chambers?

Assuming you mean the atria and ventricles by "the two heart chambers", the fact that in all species the atria are smaller than the ventricles reflects the fact that the atria receive blood from either the body or the lungs and then pump it into the larger and much stronger ventricles. One-way valves between the atria and ventricles prevent backflow of blood from the ventricles to the atria. The ventricles then pump the blood received from the atria to either the oxygenating organ (i.e. gills or lungs) or the body. The much thicker walls of the ventricles reflect the fact that much greater force is needed to pump the blood throughout the body or to the lungs than is needed to pump the blood from the atria to the ventricles.

How long do coronary stents last?

Stent replacement is recommended approximately every six months or more often in patients who form stones.

What is the length of the heart?

Heart Your heart is quarter of an inch less than five inches long. Your heart is quarter of an inch less than four inches broad.

In women which side heart located?

Left side

^Answer1

It is actually in the middle of the chest but you can feel the pulse on the left side.

^My Answer
The heart is located in the center of the chest. People think that it is in the left side of the chest, but in reality it is in the center - it is tilted slightly to the left - and the left side generates more pressure - hence the thinking that it is left side.

Does the heart composed of atria and ventricles with the atria located n the bottom an ventricles on the top of the heart?

No, the heart is composed of two atria located at the top and two ventricles located at the bottom. The atria are the receiving chambers for blood, while the ventricles are the pumping chambers that distribute blood to the lungs and the rest of the body. This arrangement allows for efficient blood flow and circulation.

What layer of the heart actually pumps blood?

The myocardium (middle layer) has the bulk of the muscle which pumps blood from the ventricles.
