How is Diwali celebrated today in Scotland?

Well, all over the world Diwali is celebrated rather differently... almost like Christmas! In India, people celebrate Christmas with only Santa Clauses in almost every store, and they don't do much celebration. They don't usually give gifts, or set up Christmas trees in their homes, or sing jolly songs... they cook their favorite meals with their closest friends and families and have fun, and watch movies, etc. In Scotland, I am sure they celebrate Diwali the same way most Indians do. Set up lights in their windows, light candles in their homes, do Poojas (prayers) every night before dawn, offer the offerings to the Godesses first, eat before dark... etc. Diwali is the festival of lights, and each and every family celebrates Diwali almost the same. There are many different families in Scotland who enjoy celebrating Diwali. So, in conclusion, there is no exact way of proving the way people in Scotland celebrate Diwali. Hope this helps! :)

Makar Sankranti marks entry of the Sun in Makar Rashi and the northward movement of the Sun then why does it not coinside with the longest night or shortest day which is 22nd Dec?

Hi I am no asrtologer but this is based on my understanding of the subject. on Jan 14 the the suns crosses over or leaves the Tropic Of Capricorn. The sun had already started its journey from the very end of the southern hemisphere after Dec 22 when in northern hemisphere it was the longest night. So days had already started to become a bit longer from 22 nd December. Regards, Yours Truly

Avidhava Navami is the ninth day of Pitru Paksha when shraddha is offered for a mother who has passed away a sumangali / suhagan, ie., not a widow (A-vidhava). This ritual is to be performed by the son(s) while their father is alive. The ritual consists of performing a shraddha (the exact details of this should be found out from a priest / pandit), and giving offerings / gifts to a sumangali / suhagan.
