What trends are in the hockey equipment industry?
While "trends" is fairly non-specific, in recent years the equipment end of the industry can be summed up in 1) lighter skates 2) innovative composite sticks 3) Conforming goalie equipment to meet the strict new NHL/NCAA standards.
Outside of those, there has also been a string of new helmets (Cascade most recently) designed to prevent head trauma and innovative ideas for skate blades (Thermablade).
Hope this helps

The National Hockey League does not have a salary cap of any sort, but the existing NHL CBA contains clauses that limit the minimum compensation for all players and the maximum entry-level compensation for players under the age of 25. Article 9 of the NHL CBA limits the maximum yearly compensation for rookies to just over $1 million in salary and 50% of that in signing, reporting and roster bonuses. Performance bonuses are not affected. After a length of time determined by the age of the player when the first contract was signed (not exceeding three years) the limits come off. Is it easier to learn to skate on figure skates or hockey skates?
Neither, really. It mostly depends on what you decide to start with. People who skate in hockey skates generally fall over on the toe picks when they try figure skates, and even accomplished figure skaters say they feel like they're gonna fall over when they put on hockey skates. So it's pretty subjective.
One thing I can say from personal experience, figure skates encourage much better posture and skating technique than hockey skates, as figure skates require you to straighten your back out much more to skate in/not fall over on the toepicks in them compared to hockey skates, I started in hockey skates and switched to figure like a week ago, so yeah.
The only bad part of figure skates is, if you get a higher end pair to just start out in, the toe picks will be close to the ice, so if you lean forward much at all, you'll fall on your face. The other issue is, up to about the 80s, figure skates were made of a single layer of leather, that you could move your ankle around in, like a combat boot. I find these really really hard to skate in, due to the lack of ankle support, compared to hockey boots. I'm sure if you start in them, you can eventually get used to them, but after starting in hockey skates, I could not at all. However, newer figure skates are as stiff/stiffer than most hockey skates, so that's no longer an issue, but I'm just saying this if you find some cheap $20 brand new Chinese "figure skates" or find some older skates at a garage sale or something.

Why does someone get tossed out of a face off in ice hockey?
A player is thrown out if one person from their team is trying to get an unfair advantage over the other team. This includes:
Moving the stick before the puck is dropped
Not placing the stick properly when requested to do so
Not placing the body square to the faceoff spot
Encroachment into the faceoff circle by a teammate.
When thrown out, another player from the team must take the faceoff, usually that person is not as skilled

How many games are in a hurling season?
That is not a simple question to answer for lots of reasons. Hurling is played all year round, so there are many competitions. Many players can be playing for several teams. They may play for their local team and also be good enough to be chosen for the county team and even the provincial team. They could also be playing in different age grades. Minor is for under 18s. Senior is for anyone of 18 or over. There is also a grade for under 21. So a person who is 19 could be playing on both a senior team and an under 21 team. There are also other grades, like school and college teams and levels of ability. So for many players, there could be a lot of matches in their season.
When it comes to particular teams there are also differences. There are many competitions that teams play in. The structure of some competitions also mean that teams in the same competition that meet in the later stages could have played in a different amount of matches. A league typically has about 7 matches, but some teams may progress and play in a few additional matches. Some cup competitions allow a second chance for some teams, which leads them to playing extra matches.
So when you put all of these things together, it is not easy to say how many matches are in a season for an individual player or an individual team.

What is the penalty in hockey when the stick is brought up between an opponents legs?
Using the stick or body to prevent another player from playing the ball in any way is called obstruction, and can have various repercussions in a game. If the stick is used to prevent a player from tackling, the normal penalty is simply a free hit. However if it is done inside the circle by a defender an umpire is likely to call a penalty (or short) corner. This is seen as a minor offence and will not usually result in a card being awarded. If the stick was used aggressively in the obstruction (e.g. hacking or interfering as opposed to simply blocking), a more severe penalty may be given; a PC within the 23-metre area or a penalty stroke within the circle, if done by a defender, and a green card is possible. This is a more serious offence that most umpires will penalise harshly, as it is dangerous and very unsportmanlike conduct. If the body is used then there can be a range of reactions. For example shadow obstruction (one player stopping an opponent from tackling a teammate) will not be penalised too hard as it is usually not deliberate, but when it is the umpire will give a more serious penalty as well as a warning. When the body is used aggressively against another player (such as shoulder barging or elbowing) an umpire should be very severe on this as it is a very serious offence and can result in injury or start a fight. An offending player is likely to be green or yellow carded immediately, and a free hit should be given normally. If a defender were to do this inside the 23m area, a PC will probably be awarded, and within the circle is almost assuredly a PS.
